A Tesla battery is over half a tonne, and thats just a car - try pulling a caravan with a EV and the range will plumment, but nobody is asking how long will my battery last if I haul stuffs, all we are told is they have a range of 200/300 odd miles but they dont say under what conditions - the condition is most likely with no AC on and plodding about at 40/50mph and towing absolutely nothing for sure give me a truck like this any day - actually got a scale model of this Mack as its so cool

All we are told is lies, lies and more lies - but no body is allow ask questions and certainly not on the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62330190#comments Put a comment on, I said nobody is asking any questions about fake climate change, fake COVID, monkey pox and other diseases fake fires carbon neutral and everything is nonsense. England gets less than 20 percent of gas from Russia. The war another excuse to pave the way for 2030. Shell and others are getting record billion dollar quarterly profits. Guess what, it was removed. Even a post saying lies lies lies was removed. The BBC are part of the problem - For a moment you would think they are hiding something

Wives mighty Honda Jazz is liable for fees in November * after double chekcing it looks like its exempt - still dont agree with these zones particuarly the bike lanes taking up roads in congested cities

How does a fire start? Sorry, this is me asking stupid questions again - I am sure you know you need three elements to start a fire and heat alone is insufficent - certainly not 40C - paper combusts at 248C - so 40C wont ignite anythying without a spark or source. My suspicion is that most of these fires are due to (stupid) humans, in Australia there is a total fire ban during the hot season - get caught and you will get locked up - In Ireland farmers deliberately start gorse fires to clear farmland and Ireland is not exactly known for 40C weather

You can question them but not to the government you can’t, they have unanimously rolled out EVs whether one likes it or not The problem with society nowadays is nobody is allowed ask questions, nothing - nada, zilch. This goes for covid, climate change, electric cars and the developing landscape of cycle lanes and ULEZ zones As an Engineer its difficult as I am always judgemental of everything, and Einstein always questioned everything - but he was smart. Electric cars are not beneficial for the environment, certainly not to the extent we are led to believe - maybe they will get batteries that are greener in the future or can reduce the need to pack thousands of them into battery packs but for now I am taking a pretty wide berth into the eco friendliness of EVs - with the extra cost associated with them and the hassle with charging them up and many other reasons but what’s the point Again, you are not asking questions and you probably don’t sound like an Engineer - if you were you would know that combustion cars are inherently analogue in nature - How are the wheels driven in a EV? Digitally is the answer you need - so of course its possible to have more control of them. Have you seen the advancement in smartphone tech since the Nokia 3310? amazing isn’t it

Not everyone is waiting for the curve to flatten and take multiple and questionable vaccines over a disease with almost 100 percent survival rate to keep safe - but if you listen to the government they wont tell you all the white papers on ADRs or the fact the vaccines are as useful as placebo - they wont tell you about the pay outs to families either due to said vaccines - even the fact that our PM was partying during this is not enough to convince people like you Sorry, my tin foil hat is blocking the keyboard, hang on
-
Not necessarily a devil but forced upon people however. They have as many downsides as upsides but what is there to do, you are not allowed question anything nowadays

You got it

Thats because of the scaremongering more than anything else, the same as this

its nothing to do with a Subaru, it could be any number of other cars - and importing a similar car from Japan of the next to nothing Subaru is going to set you back about £15k with all import fees, if you can get one. And......... 'Spain' will have different weather over the same time period? If you check the amazing google search engine -- you will see temperature extremes of 40C spread around europe every now and again, there was a heatwave back in 1995 and 1976. Google is your friend and many metrology events are not recorded prior to the 70s but we also have this event in 1906 - guess that is climate change too in San Francisco. Buying a EV will make you feel happy that you are saving humanity or something? Should you not question the 90 odd percent of other sources of harmful greenhouse gas and not the poor combustion engine? that the ordinary tax payer is responsible for? if not why? Its it becaue the science experts are not telling you. People like you are probably still waiting for the curve to flatten and the autumn booster of course.

The cynic would say a driver to accelerate the decommisnioning of combustion cars to facilitate the roll out of the EVs they are craving so much - gradually drowing out people until they have no option left but get a EV - on bank finance Well sure but you dont seem to grasp that combustion engines around since the 1800s are getting taken off the road has it not alarmed you in how quickly and decisively governments done this without any input from anyone? A modern petrol car have very low g/km of emissions - comapred to a EV with its solid state components and batteries - yet these cars are getting phased out As for the Technology, speak to anyone who makes these cars ask anyone who works for JLR, Audi, Merceds or BMW and they will tell you the level of integration with the .NET and number of BCUs and level of digital control and such is off the scale, and its only 2022 - if you think the lay person can repair a car in 2030 you really need to look into the mirror - cars will be long past the stage where humans actually drove them they will all be automated I can only see 3 winners for EVs 1. Banks 2. Auto manufacturwers - the DIY days are gone and they will have total control of the car from start to finish - Tesla do not disclose IP to anyone, they wont be the last 3. Governments

Its all about the environment whatever ones opinion is remember that is why there is a drive to electrification in the first place Remember the london ULEZ zone? surprise surprise they are appearing in more and more cities -- gradually forcing people to get electric cars - more bike lanes also. Its called totaliarian control by governments I wouldnt get a 15 year old EV, its not a Subaru - that EV wont be in a good state after 15 years, have you tried running a 15 year old laptop or phone? The days of DIY repairs on cars are over with EVs, they will be basically like laptops and have new motherboards and daughterboards put on by 'technicians' when they go wrong or to update - or else they will be binned
-
As mentioned it would cost me in excess of £12k to get a Tesla for 2 years or £8k for a Peugeot e208, hand back the keys in both cases as with any purchase scheme, could I do it? yes, does it make sense? no - discussed at work actually in the morning and the other folk were of the same opinion What exactly are you doing for 2 years - feeling good about driving a EV because of its emissions and environmental properties? give me a Jaguar XKR any day of the week, I can keep it after two years too and it probably will have increased in value to boot
-
Nothing unusual for Spain The only difference was that previously media and news outlets were not like this

These running costs need to be broken down a bit - if you are leasing out a vehicle it probably will work but for other people there are no savings to be had Take someone with a IS250, perfectly good car in its own right and they want an EV, it will cost more than the IS250 so already they are down money and electricity is going up also and EVs cars need tyres – its not like they have zero annual costs. I would need a sizable hole in my head to sell my Subaru and get the e208, costing me £8k over two anxiety filled years to be left with nothing at the end I can lease out an EV no problems but I would much rather get a car I want to drive rather than EVs - plenty to choose from. Governments have forced people’s hands on this matter no matter which way you look at it – with combustion engine cars having such little global contribution to greenhouse gases I don’t feel why I should feel the burden to buy EVs, particularly when they are not that good for the environment in the first place which is ridiculing the entire matter

... following government's advice to save the world? I would consider one if I had a urban commute but as pointed out the figures are not quite adding up as they don't seem to be a sound financial purchase, the savings you get from them are pointless unless you actually own it. But this is the outcome of what governments demanded but people are lacking sense it seems and would gladly finance a loan to get an electric car because they are told to do so. There was a brief discussion in the office in the morning about electric cars and the scheme the company are running and we were all in agreement it's not a financially sound decision, purchasing a vehicle you actually own seems to be the favourable option, if you want to spend £200-500 a month leasing out a electric car crack on with it but it's like the heat pump boilers will people root up their house for tens of thousands of pounds to install useless inefficient heat pumps because the government want you to

32mpg after my trip to Ireland, 400 odd miles going as fast or faster than the NSL allows you might notice that is S# mode but going by your post I doubt that means anything No problems with running a Subaru, a whole lot more interesting than a EV with as much character as a Nun. If you want to drive a EV and it makes you happy fair play but not everyone is a sheep. Another MOT pass a while ago too - 134,514 miles and no advisories - dont make em like they used to - the tester said keep it. https://imgur.com/DbGrLYN

There is zero financial incentive for me to get an EV - but like you said and I previously mentioned governments very kindly put us in this situation And the above post confirms my suspicion that governments and auto manufacturers have mega money agreements between them to make this happen, decommissioning of combustion engine cars around since the 1800s doesn’t happen without planning – and $$$$$, nobody is asking questions however.

A Tesla costs about 50 - 60K or more - they do not have a good reputation either for build quality or such but that beside the point, how much money are you actually saving at the end of a year or 2? you could buy a used Porsche 911 which would destroy it for a performance car for cheaper and that is hardly as worse for economy as my Subaru. My example above is that a leased out Tesla over 2 years is over £12k, you could buy dozens of more interesting cars for that money and after two years you can keep it you wont need to borrow more money to go to work and get about. The question is what is the damage to the climate over those two years - not much is my guestimate based on the fact the combustion engine cars attribute to circa 10% of global greenhouse gases themselves - and no this is not from my tin foil hat, the UK contribution is < 1% - we are not told these figure from governments but hey ho Internal combustion (IC) engines operating on fossil fuel oil provide about 25% of the world’s power and in doing so, they produce about 10% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions

Petrol to drop, hold your horses... On the other hand we have a recession looming it seems Petrol prices drop as recession fears squash commodities rally Petrol prices drop from record high, says AA By Noor Nanji Business reporter, BBC News Going back to this... My company have the scheme on line and you can book cars etc - and see prices This e-208 is around £350 per month, that is with a £100 odd reduction in VAT. I will pass Its not just this, its every single car - I cant quite work the math out as 1. You wont own the car 2. You can buy a petrol car to keep and it will be far cheaper The e-208 will cost over £8k over 2 years at which point you will have to hand it back or do something else to get to work - but you will have saved <xxx> greenhous gas emisssions - said emissions I would hazard a guess are no better or worse than modern petrol car you get nowadays, the era of 286g/km days are long gone (my Subaru) - when you factor everything there wouldnt be a huge difference between them emission wise - remember EVs have fossil fuels for manufacturing and charging up. Its not like they are plucked from a tree, plus petrol cars will generally last longer £8k would get many a good used petrol car yours to keep. A tesla - dont know what kind, was around £500 per month - so over two years that will set you back £12k - prime money for a used Lexus LS600hL which you can keep also with manufacturing quality that Tesla couldnt dream of, and you get a V8 for good measure. I know which one I would go for

You never answered the range of it, how fast do you drive between recharges? if you can do 60/70mph and get 400 miles that is pretty decent - towing anything? how does that impact the range? An EV on full throttle would run out of juice sooner than any regular performance gasoline car would - be it a Lexus, Subaru or anything else, they would have enough fuel to last hundreds of miles further VED is £0 now but you think our politicians will have it like this in 5 years time? no chance is the answer. I am not sold on the handling, having a battery that weights over half a tonne is not doing any favours, no matter how you try to spin it, 2 tonnes is a lot of metal to be hauling you would hardly be able to push that to the roadside if it broke down. Lets put it this way, when I decide to get another car I would sooner get a V8 over any EV - life is too short and all that and I predict that in 2030 and beyond there will be a demand for older vehicles when people get tired of the EVs that was forced upon everyone, the level of automation then is going to be pretty scary - turning on heated seats remotely should be the least of ones worry.
-
Going back to the fuel 'savings' - it would take years to see payback - taking the cost of a new Tesla into account - someone last week was raving about his new EV and the savings over his old petrol car, he took out a loan of 20k for these savings to occur

I drove a £30k+ Peugeot E 208 last week at work, it was not good but prior to driving it I pretty knew what it would be like. Terrible electric steering with no feedback whatsoever Handling was poor but overall, it sums up the EV for me For someone else it could be a perfect car but we are all different and cars like this now are the only ones available if you want a new motor. I only drove it 20 minutes but it didn’t take long to find out what an EV would be like, it was weird also of course with no engine noise. A Tesla if it ever goes wrong needs to go back to Tesla as they have all the IP so that’s a red flag for me straight away, if I drove one fast or like I drive my Subaru and I know they can go much quicker it wouldn’t last me long and I would get bored of charging it up, then there is the smartphone -esque control - I just couldn’t live with that – call me old school but its just not for me. Fast charge costs are soaring also and their supply is limited - it’s not possible to always time a journey so you arrive back in your driveway to charge up - and they really are not good for the environment either so I wouldn’t be shouting from the rooftops that I am doing my bit for the planet.
