  1. Old thread revived for update on my LS400 So, I've had the Borbet Alloys fitted and put new Maxxi's on the front and Nexen's on the rear. I think the Borbets were refurbs from Poland and they are possibly the style on a smaller Lexus. Anyway, quite pelased with their appearance as the OEM's weren't flaking but impossible to clean between the pattern. Yes I think I like the look and didn't cost a packet. Standard size of course.
  2. Would you change the Cambelt yourself on the Celsior? If not, and knowing that it may not have been changed for some time, its an expense to consider and worry about. As you say earlier cars are non-intereference and the Mk2 has had a belt change. As neither cars are worth a lot in todays market I'd keep the one that I most liked the style of. Having never driven a later Car I can't compare, but I was tempted to buy one recently and so, lesson learned from you as I can't drive two cars at once and my OH doesn't drive,I won't give myself the dilemma of which car to drive. If they are both garaged and you drive regularly then use them both for a little longer until it becomes clearer which you prefer. Presuemably its cost you additional insurance and tax and some parts . Will you break even or make a profit on selling? Stuart ps expect lexus chap to be phoning you rubbishing the marque if you sell one! His game is well documented.
  3. The screw head sits on a very thin area of the plastic to hold one part to the other. its cracked all around the screw hole. Its holding together - just - with a piece of sellotape. This is the only key I've seen with a button on the side, I do have a spare and what may be a Master key without a button on the side. So, not desperate. Breakers will rarely sell the key without the Ignition barrel so I'll just keep looking on ebay and maybe one day........
  4. I'd check the new battery voltage first to be sure its not a dud. Did you have to charge it?
  5. Is the LPG system Multipoint or the older single point closed loop?
  6. Hoping to find a single button key fob as I dropped my keys and it broke the plastic. Any number of two or three button fobs but the single button is seemingly extinct! Hate having a selotaped fob. Any ideas or anyone purchased a new fob from somewhere?
  7. OK so the Curtains are nice. $159 Just checking fenders and see US don't have the small indicator hole like UK http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-LS-Base-Sedan-4-Door-/262028577971?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3d021eccb3&item=262028577971
  8. I must be dyslexic ! Agree about the paint it looks like new on my Car. Amazing its what sold it to me without a viewing. Dangerous I know (and have paid a price) but exterior impression is 85% selling factor. The G Limited MR2 Import I owned also a "K" reg never had the qaulity finish that this car has! Take the point Ruud makes about the Gel coat. My can spraying has never been successful. Every time I put the clear gel coat on, it makes the paint look dull. Possibly the quality gel coat, or wrong temperature or being outside, or all three of those things?
  9. It's most certainly a Mk3, easy to tell by the lack of fog lights at the front, they're encompassed within the main lighting cluster on this Mk. This car's a real " no no " methinks. there are some faults but the biggest bugbear could be the non-original paint work on most of the car. Unless it has been resprayed to exacting Lexus ( or better ) standards then it's not going to last the course !! And the price, it's possibly a bit " dopey " !! Malc Wow! you've a sharp eye. Drivers door and passenger door do look different colour. Anywhere else? Don't know how I'm going to match Club expectation if I buy a new front drivers side wing. Should I just remove the rust and tart it up? Save me best part of £600 I imagine.
  10. Sounds a sad case - the exception really. This ebay item- is it a Mk2 I thought Mk2 has the crease along the wing and therefore its a Mk 3, but confess I've never studied the evolution. Do think that taking away the crease was retrograde to the cars style, but beauty as they say....... Looks like a nice car for someone with loads a dosh. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-4-0-ltr-MK2-Show-winner-in-excellent-condition-/191676950477?hash=item2ca0d627cd
  11. Never mind the economy - feel the width! Sums it up for me.
  12. Be great if it is just the O ring. Just bought five for £2.97 from 100% pos supplier to MOD etc. Sales blurb seems convincing Viton O Rings - 75 Shore Viton also referred to as FKM has a low compression set and have high temperature and chemical resistance. Viton O Rings The terms FPM, FKM and Viton® very often cause confusion and lead to incorrect interpretations. All of these designations actually stand for one single base material:fluoro rubber. Temperature Range -20°C up to +200°C (avoid prolonged use at higher extremes)
  13. I'm hoping its the "O" ring and also that I can get a socket into a hole in the pulley to undo the third bolt without the need to remove the pulley wheel and Serpentine belt. Sadly, I can't see any real leak from below the tri plate and so further down seems most likely. Impossible to see with LED Torch under car - needed decent lamp. Tried to film when it was on the Ramp but not enough light. Two 6 ton and an additional two Jacks at point to change a wheel, should satisfy my nervous disposition enough to poke my head under the Engine bay. Foolishly I askled the guy to fix back the under cover - my brain must hav been telling me "Don't go there" Doh! I have lots of "o"rings but if you have the size I'd rather buy a pack of ten from this seller who I've used before rather than find I've put a "Chinese" last five minutes" O ring on! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/METRIC-NITRILE-RUBBER-O-RINGS-1MM
  14. Is it likely to make a difference to the way your wife drives or is it a safety concern? Has it been proven that five rib tread is better than four? You expected a bargain priced product but may not get what you thought to be one. I can understand your frustration but end of the day will it make a lot of difference? Paying £100 to return them and then not being credited is possibly a risk too far. No guarantee with pay by debit card just loads of sleepless nights if you try to pursue them in Germany or via the UK Court. I hope you are pleasantly surprised when delivery takes place. I've crossed my fingers.
  15. Hi Rupert, Got the car back Wednesday evening - over a week without it, biting nails, all of a tizz. Lots of new brake pipe right to unit under the bonnet and S/S hoses. Frankly, I can't tell any difference but I've not had to make an emergency stop. New wheels on and chrome 21mm caps for nuts. Awkward, with a security nut on each, so cap held on s/nut with bluetack. Got a chance to look under car and leak from Power Steering not good. Will need to sort. "£90" inspection - nearest main dealer told me! Hoping its just the IACV which was replaced Jan 14 and maybe they didn't use PTFE tape around the thread? Hate getting under cars. "Merchandise" en route - Thanks - has funded two 6 ton Axle stands - so maybe sometime next week I'll have a look?
  16. Seemingly unsold - relisted - so still time if you anyone interested! I'll pass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-Lexus-Ls430-Lpg-Spares-or-Repairs-runs-and-drives-/281781638420?hash=item419b7e9514
  17. Trying to find a Fender for a '93 is not at all easy. Only one that seems to be for sale is the right colour but the guy has so annoyed me saying he is breaking the car (now for eight months) when he hadn't actually broken it - and then he tells me he has the wings off so I ask for photo's and he says he hasn't had the Drivers side wing off and won't take it off as someone wasn't happy with the passenger side when he took it off - Total To**er! so told him he can keep it. In reality he's been trying to sell the car complete and not pay fees is the conclusion I'm coming to. Irritating, as they wont ship from USA and probably prohibitively expensive. Its like the "Y" pipe they sell in Canada - won't ship UK. Daren't ask the price of a new Wing! Saw some Irish breakers yard with a few on top of eachother once on t'bay but they never came back to me. Maybe I'll just repair and spray. Meantime the bubbles are getting bigger.
  18. You are not wrong Mike - I've only had one inspection and that was 26 years ago, but its etched into my memory. I think any errors are partly mine and partly my old Accountant friend who is 79 and possibly beginning to lose the plot. But maybe it's all me! Anyway, another part of this thread I removed, regarding an unknown withdrawel by bank transfer from my account. It has been sorted much to my relief, however I do challenge how a sum paid by a bank transfer can be reversed by the Bank 15 days later. If detail of the payer had been given it would have saved my anxiety level. Cheques have a clearance period and I always thought Bank Transfers once made are irreversible. Seems not.
  19. Having a very mixed day after a sleepless night. Struggling with my VAT reconciliation for the business audit ! Blimey its a Nightmare week. Mechanic phoned to point out that these new S/S hoses don't have the little spur on the end which fits into a slot preventing movement. Goodrich ones don't either, i had noticed, and I guess if something really snags the hose its going to be ripped off anyway so told him to go ahead. Good job I don't have to go down a very deep rutted Lane in France having sold our plot of land which went through last week. On the upside, just had a second chance offer to have those brake pads for £4 + £6 postage so I've bought them and they'll gather dust for a couple of years. With my brain the way it is, will I remember I have them? (removed a sentence here as waffled on a bit!)
  20. I could live with this sound as long as not too intrusive on long journeys. Seems the best out there. But could I afford it??
  21. I'll certainly let you know Rupert. Cars been with the mechanic for last three days as he's also sorting any rusting pipes. I have to say they were great before the change but as pipes were advisory a c ouple of years ago and I want to be absolutely sure of braking - no old tired 21 year old hoses (which could baloon) the job is being done.
  22. Coal Dust ha ha ha! I like it. I had all discs and pads changed a while back and had Mintex pads fitted which grip like a Leach. OK you get the occasional sqweek, which may be not enough copper grease on rear of pads, but I can't fault them for stopping power. At this moment a set of Techna Fit Stainless steel brake hoses are being fitted. As I picked this set up for £14.02 on ebay t'other day it would be churlish to moan about missing out on the pads! I only needed a single standard back hose to go with two TRW Fronts and the one Raybestos Back I bought a few weeks ago from Rock Auto US - which are now all redundant. Guess where they'll end up.
  23. and the Bin Lorry Driver up in Glasgow? Bet he drives a Car - Wonder what has he told his Insurance company and revealed to DVLA
