  1. These were my preferred choice to the 93 originals. They are Borbet and come of (I think) an IS200 ?? So original Lexus wheels with centre piece. Loving them and the only part of the car that gets washed more than once a year.
  2. check DVLA history first. 2K miles a year you'd really not need two Cars and if short journeys then you aren't doing the Cars any favours. Tax and insurance - money to burn perhaps?
  3. It didn't like yesterdays murky weather. Todays sunshine it decided to work perfectly again. Could have something to do with the time delay or possibly as I fiddled with the Telescopic Steering wheel button. Normally have this switched off as read of problems fixing. 92 is likely to be same as 94 with a side button only, i imagine.
  4. You buy it Pete - and don't be coy about telling us of your regrets after -- ha ha ha! Its past is giving very mixed messages. How much are the "issues" with your present motor truly going to cost you? Think again. Better the devil etc......but then if money is no issue and you want to prove us old farts (speaking personally ) wrong, then good luck. PS What is the MOT history of work needed/done seen on DVLA? PPS My 93 has cost me a packet (three times what I paid for it) and I'm still not completely happy. Read Lexus the Relentless Pursuit and then ask yourself with all that Market research of the American market why did they make seats to only fit Japanese or American Women's Bums?. The Static on my Bonse is really irritating my combover and I can't find the seatbelt clip when I've got an overcoat on. Not everyone is totally in love with the design - but the engine is to die for!
  5. No, I've replaced the battery. Just seems to be playing up when it comes to unlocking with either of the two key fobs. It may be that the little button presses against a sort of "bellows" which contains the contact points so may be its best left alone. What I am trying to determine is if the button can be removed to clean the debris off, and the circuit board is under a protective cover, which may be glued in place? I worried about a break in one of my keys plastic and obtained a s/hand key, but to remove and switch blades requires entry behind the plastic. Maybe its just not possible in which case I wasted my money buying a s/h key? Its no matter and I will try the internal lock/iunlock sequence and see if it improves. I tend to point to the Drivers side rear door lower panel though I've read it is in the boot on the Pass side (or was this on American models??) ps Could there be a screw under the lexus logo ??
  6. Depends I suppose on your daily usage, average mileage and if you have a heated Aircraft hanger. The more cars you own, the likelyhood is that they will suffer the consequences of patchy usage. If not garaged then brake parts start to deteriorate, etc. If used by rotation regularly and on long trips then should be OK. How do you decide which one to use? Conundrum!
  7. Put title and just "key" in search zero threads came up? Something wrong here I suspect. Does anyone know how the Fob opens beyond the initial cover being taken off. I fear the contact points are corroded or not making good contact but I can't see immediately how the inner part is removed to expose the circuit board and be able to take off the side button to clean? 3.4V on cell battery so not that. Is it just a pry off job at back of fob where ring is joined? Had loads of images on Merc site for this sort of thing. Thanks
  8. Blimey whats that all about? Talk about dangerous driving.
  9. Watling Engineers Ltd produced one for a 1990-94 for £327. Tel 01727 873661. I also have a note that Brinks produce one for the earlier model (Ref B1788) for £285 and they produce one for the LS430 2000 model for £285. Phone 0161 304 9014. Info may be out of date. Prices may not include VAT? Hope you are lucky like me and got an unused one on ebay for £40.
  10. Good 'cos we don't want any Kamikaze members on here!
  11. Yes I agree don't touch the Car unless you are comfortable about it, and of course I should have added the old "without responsibility or liability" caveat to my suggestion. The expansion tank is however something that you can easily see under the bonnet and will contain red fluid. It is why you don't have to add water to a Radiator like the bad old days. Evaporation is caught and recycled. It will have a high and low mark on it and so you can see where you are with your Radiator Water level. Fingers crossed.
  12. What is the water level when cold - is it consistent to other times you've checked the expansion tank or has it dropped? This will tell you if its going where it shouldn't. May just be one of the pulleys. When the timing belt was changed was the Water pump changed at the same time? (assuming Car doesn't have chains and sorry if wrong) My daughters Suzuki Wagon R is squeeling like a stuck Pig and she's been through three serpentine belts in a month, so looking at ideas as to cause, its either misalignment of a pulley (usually due to worn bearing) or the AA hasn't properly cleaned the pulleys of debris when fitting. She said the AA took over two hours to fit one belt???? You can put a small amount of water onto the inner side of the Serpentine belt (with extreme caution if engine running) and see if noise disappears. If it does, it will return, but it then suggests something other than the dreaded Oil/Water mixing in the Radiator. Put a little water on the inner side of belt when engine off before first of the day starting is probably wisest. Water pumps are notorious for making noises when on their way out. The bad news on a LS400 is that they are situated behind the Cam belt housing.
  13. Checking Transmission levels I find a difficult process. Getting the Car autobox up to temperature can't be done by just idling the engine stationary until the temp is on the 9. Some suggest that after its up to heat that the car be left five minutes before starting the engine and doing the gear selector movement process before looking at the dipstick. I personally don't like Lexus idea of a disptick on the 400 as its so easy to get dirt down the tube if not very careful. Give a good clean around the dipstick and anything it may touch, before pulling it out. Lint free cloth to wipe and check whilst engine running. Don't wear a Tie or Scarf!!
  14. You are welcome to these Gratis, for the cost of postage if interested? BOXED SET BRAND NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS REF BP844 BY QUINTON HAZELL (Equiv to MDP1235) FOR TOYOTA 4 RUNNER 91-95 TOYOTA HI-LUX 95-
  15. The first Car is a no no with that rust above the Windscreen. Seats look great and whyever didn't they hoover the Carpet and take the clutter out. Sudden decision to sell always spells trouble. Second car must be the only one I've ever seen for sale showing a full tank. Usually on the empty mark.
  16. Well there's always this one - a real snip at the price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-Lexus-LS400-V8-manual-Turbo-/112202464497?hash=item1a1fc9bcf1:g:NmMAAOSwB09YFjGt
  17. Surprised by the very low percentage for my age group. Old enough to enjoy George Macdonald Fraser before the PC people criticised his really enjoyable works. The piece he wrote for the Daily Mail in 2000(?) about the influence of Politicians was an astute look at the way the Country was heading. What he'd think about todays World situation I can only imagine would be despair and incredulity.
  18. Anyone tell me what is behind the part marked in the photo? Had my tow Bar electrics fitted yesterday and noticed that the guy had unscrewed the two nuts perhaps to see if he could thread the hot wire through the bulkhead this route. Told me he actually threaded it down the side of the passenger door behind the hinges and into the car. When I went out last night I noticed a sort of whistling noise (at only 5mph) but it only lasted a few minutes and disappeared once I'd been round the block to stop at the house to inspect.. This morning I checked the nuts and could see that the rubber Gasket was folded instead of the bolt running through one side. Corrected today but still curious if it caused the noise. Could be something totally unrelated? Hate not knowing why something happens. ps My Engine bay looks much cleaner than in the photo which was taken when I bought the Car.
  19. Hello Laurent Good to have a French member. Many of us drive to France and I drove down to the South via the Milau Viaduct in my 23 year old LS400 to Frejus this Summer just gone, and I didn't see a single Lexus. (Excluding four tracks) Wonderful Bridge and love the Video showing its construction! We oldies have by experience become discerning, and we enjoy the exclusivity which even the older generation Cars provide. The later models are for the upwardly mobile, and performance loving enthusiasts. Your Car looks very nice and your English is no doubt superior to our command of French. (Certainly my own) No offence taken by the reference to age. Age is but a number - its a persons zest for life that defines them.
  20. Could this be the common problem Colin? Not sure if you are getting no movement fwd/back http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/442318-how-to-fix-the-problem-with-non-working-reclining-on-drivers-seat-pictures-inside.html see thread Driver seat 1992 Lexus for comments Fixed mine whilst Car seat was still in situ.
  21. ps This is one of the funniest threads on LPG (if you've got a couple of weeks to read?) which could be alarming if such idiots exist. http://www.lpgforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8148
  22. Panic over - found it on another thread - did away with the Tabs so just brute force and a Pry Bar needed. Hmm see the Car must have had a broken window/rear scree at some time. Only a 10p coin and a Biro otherwise.
  23. Got a guy coming to put my tow Bar electrics in tomorrow, so thought I'd remove rear seat to make it simpler. I can't find or see any Tabs as per the "how to" post. Has anyone taken out their rear seat. I assume that the tabs are in the centre each side but a mirror and torch shows nothing and not wasy to even pry any space with my fingers. Help! Mercedes had the ring pulls just visible each corner. So simple.
  24. Experience has shown me, that the last thing you want to do is shout about the name of a good mechanic, that is unless you are happy to always be in a Queue to get any work done. Mine is a great guy who sadly has type 1 diabetes and hasn't billed me for work done since April 2015 but you won't find me giving out any name. I paid him £500 on account recently despite him not asking, and a few days ago he changed the flexi pipes from Auto Box to Rad. So, reminded him yet again to bill me as I've forgotten just how much work he has done to the Car and I must owe him another £500 at least. Been an expensive beast this, but now the Exhaust has been fixed with S/.S from Cats to Box I am at last enjoying the pleasure of a quieter and better performing Car. Perhaps the Mercedes Barges are finally being banished from my memory.
