The Air Control Valve is vital for the engine to run properly.,Used to get problems with My W126's because of ACV's becoming sooted up. I've never heard of anyone blanking it off. Your difficulty is going to be because you don't have a flat surface to get a good seal the Tail fitting might prove very difficult, if not impossible, Better a screw in spud. Perhaps a spud for an LPG Inlet manifold may be the same size? You can check with Tinley Tech what bore size they are? Then self tapping in new position?

1/8th of an inch is not 10mm more like 3mm unless I'm losing it! Surprised plastic glue not storng enough as the part doesn't take any stress whatsoever. Very small bore pipe. Mine has held well but if you applied it to tainted the palstic with something such as tape glue then you need isopropanol (?) to clean it first.

Good news and bad news for me. Because my drive is uneven bricks on sand I decided I didn't want to use Jacks to change the UCA I thought might be faulty. My mechanic being overloaded I took the Car to my nearby Ford Dealership where I get my MOT.- £1700 quoted to get through MOT last time but did it for signiicantly less by non Lexus part and trusted Mechanic. So, they said they'd take a look. Might take an hour. What?? How much will the inspection cost I asked. What is your rate? £110 an hour was the reply. I said thats more than Lexus charge (?) and the cost of a full MOT is only c.£40 Ah well it isn't charged if we do the jobs he said. Had to bite the bullet as off on 1200 mile journey soon. Walked back to the Garage after half and hour and no one working on the Car. Mechanic report said the knocking must be coming from a loose exhaust heat shield as he didn't find any other problems but mentioend the rusty rear springs. So, accepted the £51 half hour charge and feel (almost) comfortable that there isn't any major problem. Will however be taking in addition to the two Rear springs, a UCA and LBJ (drivers side) anda spare Drop link not fitted last time. Its llike taking the Parts Department whenever I go away!!

Thanks all. Re the Nationwide I just had a look and there is this note. " Nationwide Building Society acts as an Intermediary to Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited for car insurance." Difficult, as my existing B/cover is with Silver Knight and my insurance is via a Broker indirectly to LV. Not much point in my asking LV for a quote for my insurance even though I have received their bumph saying "cheaper Car Insurance with us?" The "?" says it all. Still may give them a call just to alert my Broker that I'd like a £100 off quote! Looked at the ADAC site John, and very interesting if slightly dated in some of the testimonials. Need a lot more reading I think. I know Saga would quote me lower insurance but the Silver Knight B/cover only comes via LV. Oh well, probably go with my renewal as time spent messing with options is boring me rigid.

Many breakdown covers don't cover cars of 23 years for European cover. OK I can have cover if I go with my present insurer but it won't be available if I go to another insurer. .Can anyone tell me if they have European Breakdown cover for say mileage 8000 p.a. and max 90 days abroad? What price and who are the organisation? I know i can get a better deal for the Insurance cover but European breakdown cover is a "must" for my peace of mind. I read somewhere that they won't cover you if you are visiting a second home?? Also would an "advisory" on an MOT be used as a means to void their liability where work has not been done? Just asking, and I know what everyone thinks of Insurers. So no swearing please!

Just checked my notes and I wrote 93 to 2000 Wheels - Offset +45 J16 x 7JJ. Borbets K7 Tyres 225x60 R16 If they are the Borbets it will say the offset on the inner part of wheel. Just read your follow up? Not sure about his comments. Check your handbook. I don't have mine to hand. ps What size tyres did they have on them? -

If they are the Wheels you showed us that were on ebay I don't have any spacers fitted to the ones I have. Are you sure you need spacers? Have you checked by puttinh one on the car? They are close to the Caliper parts but should be OK unless 95 is different to 93? I bought some wheels nut covers 22mm last year to cover the nuts and set the wheels off. After a Winter they looked pretty dirty and even though chromed plastic I thought I'd need a new set. Good piece of advice - for what may look like pitted chrome is to use a piece of Aluminium foil with water and ordinary soap on the surface. Came up much better than i expected. Will last another year after a bit of vaseline rubbed in to any pitted area. . -
Lifted front wheel yesterday but couldn't feel any play in the ball joint just using my hands to try to lift and swivel. although the UCA looked shot as quite a gap. Should have tested it with a crowbar under wheel and lift to see play Doh! UCA didn't look anything like the Nearside. Fortunataly I have an offside UCA as I bought a pair from USA a while back and only used NSF. Tackle it tomorrow - perhaps. .

i have an aversion to looking at Dogs dangly bits but maybe thats just me? Trying to keep clean that grill would I imagine be a nightmare. evey little triangle getting dirt in the corners despite washing. Still, I wouldn't mind hiring one for a day and posing! Don't know what I meant on reflection about Merc AMG grill being like an old Beemer as more like a modern beemer - I think. Prefer the Horizontal lines to grills. Anyone noticed that Ford have a grill much like the Aston Martin or once again is it my eyesight failing. -
I have a set of Lexus wheels with 225/60/R16 like those shown and I think they look the Bees Knees. I think, but am not sure they would have come off an IS200. My set were refurbed and came from Poland There's a photo of them on my Car somewhere on the Forum and also I think you'll find a car being broken with them on, On t'bay. Do your own research to satisfy yourself. .

I don't think my fluffy dice would look too good in there! Hate the front grill ever since Audi introduced the idea with the raging Bull Lexus copied it and made it an unfavourite car. Like the lights on some cars seem meant to intimidate in the rear view mirror. Frightening Children and old men must be really satisfying What are Car designers about these days? If its what the young blades want then Sales will tell it all. Having just seen the new High Performance Mercedes- AMG - GLC63 Debut with Bi-Turbo V8 what have they done to that grill? - looks like an old BMW - Apols for the swearing! and no I don't really have any dice! -
Had a rear spring go on a W140 Merc but it was just a small piece off the bottom, less than a ring. Not noticeable accept by MOT inspection. My mechanic wouldn't touch it. It must have been about 50% thicker than the two replacement KYB springs I've got in the garage for the Lexus. Surprising this but in so many ways the LS and the W140 were very different beasts. Those rear Merc springs have a bend in them when fitted - you have to have exactly the right compression instrument for such purpose or risk death. Ratcheting it up would likely give me heart failure!

Watching this vid on a different model Lexus it was a fair bit of work. Another vid showed the need for a pickle fork, whih I was looking at one a few weeks back at a Yard sale and had no idea what it was used for. Necessary tool to remove the ball joint. It may be much easier on the LS. but its gien me the excuse to leave it to another. I know "scaredecat" or perehaps just wise in old age!

£93.60 not at all unreasonable. Having been shafted for over £600 for the parts for a Cam belt and water pump change with all other parts I'm loathe to to go lexus for a quote on parts. Wondering about Johns theory. above. Must be a reason. How difficult is it to change a lower ball joint? not that I really want to do it and spend time bending over a wheel arch. The "back" will object most vociferously! .

I don't know what an original part from toyta would cost Phil but I imagine very expensive. I bought Sankei 555 which in this advert for an older Lexus looks better than the Beck Arnley. Price via Oz Aus$122 each. Not cheap B&A are the onyl ones on Rock auto for the 92. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1992/lexus/ls400/suspension/ball_joint.html
