  1. Errrrrm don't think I like the look of that link . Suspect others think the same Techstream - please explain as I haven't clue what its about.
  2. Lovely Car - well done but.....how are you going to keep the Moths out ?
  3. Pretty sure its been like that for a long time - if the car fails the test you aren't going to be able to drive it just because its previous MOT has not run out. Only after re-MOT and pass will it be OK. Hence delaying MOT until last moment unless very confident nothing will fail it. You could take it direct to a garage for repair but nothing else.
  4. Hmmm What is the acronym WOT ? I imagine that you'd need to change the filter every two months given the dust that flies about in an Engine bay. That must be fire retardent foam wrapped around the Air box etc? I always thought that warm air from the EGR valve is better to get engines up to temp, so unless you blank this off, then it perhaps wouldn't make any difference doing the mod? For a street car in the winter you'd be pushing freezing air in most of the time. I've never red lined my car to hear if it makes noise. Still waiting for my ECU to return from the States so can't test it. Not sure I will any way. Interesting though.
  5. Nightmare indeed Phil. Glad you were helped and sorted the problem. I always carry my second key on my House keys. The drivers door sometimes locks itself way before twenty seconds when I just get out to put the chain across the driveway. Alarmed me until I discovered that the passenger and back doors don't lock. Strange, and I've never fathomed it but like the security in case I lock the keys in the boot - so easily done.
  6. I had a Flare tube when I bought an MR2. Not sure its legal to have one in the Car in UK and certainly its not something I'd want to go off by accident? RNLI may take it if you want to rid yourself of it - possibly? Mine is stil in the back yard in an ice cream tub. Though I could have put it on the Boat, I suppose.
  7. Probably never likely to have keyless entry, I did read this thread in the early hours which may help with temporary fix. Glad its not something I have to worry about. https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/115417-hopefully-stop-the-thieving-bs/
  8. Is there any website where I can look up a Lexus part number to determine what Car and years it relates?
  9. I noticed a very smart Legend Coupe for £5 grand. Never seen one before. And good luck with your new Car. Must make you feel like a Million Dollars as they say Pond size!
  10. Good news - I've heard back that there is no leakage in the 25 year old Capacitors. Look forward to getting the ECU back and see how much of a difference to the drive. Makes you wonder why some Caps leak and some don't. 139,500 mileage.
  11. I've often remarked that the leather seats in my various Mercedes were much more comfortable than in the LS400. A particular point I made to LS Cowboy was that in the LHD car there was no slope next to the footrest which in RHD Cars I've found on a long journey can put your knee out - have fallen out in agony at times, despite moving foot around and using Cruise. Mind you the earlier Sprung seats in Mercs were also killers to the spine. I replaced mine in a 230TE once, with Ford Cortina crushed velvet seats and no more rolling around and back ache.
  12. A dark colour is better for cloth seats. See the rather grubby patch in the photo of rear door open. It should shampoo I imagine, but not "immaculate" I had Suade seats in a 500SEC it went bald in the Drivers seat and couldn't be cleaned. It was an off white colour to contrast with the Azur blue Car. Looked great when new, but not so cool when grubby.
  13. Surely its against the MOT rules to remove Cats where a car is manufactured with them, and will be a fail. I've read of people putting cats back just for the MOT. The main dealer should have produced the original system incorporating Catalytic converters. But of course if in your discussions perhaps they interpreted your wishes as wanting more burble ??? in the system, to that end they may have referred to mufflers? Just wondering if misconception crept in during your dialogue? Playing Devil's Advocate
  14. Reasons why not to buy leather https://www.thrillist.com/cars/reasons-to-never-get-leather-seats-in-your-car
  15. Quote the exhaust was heavily blowing round the cats and was advised this was non-repairable due to the amount of metal that had rusted away. the rest of the exhaust had really thin metal due to corrosion as well in some places hence why i went for the new system. Unquote My 1993 Cats were sufficiently good to be welded to a new Y pipe length. I've got a pair of later LS, Cats and although the flanges may deteriorate to nothing, inside each end is a quarter inch of Stainless steel 1mm pipe to which new pipe can be welded after the flanges are removed. Of course the old Cats are worth about £50 for scrap. Bet they didn't give them back to you? If you take the matter to Court and it is defended then you can elect to have it resolved by mediation which used to be known as arbitration. Both sides will need agree and the matter can be dealt with via a conference call to both parties by the Mediator. Don't necessarily expect the outcome to go your way, but it will be quicker and cheaper than a Court hearing where further fees will be payable, not to mention considerable extra work preparing your case and time delays, etc. The Mediators decision is final and if in your favour and the defendant fails to pay the agreed compensation then you can apply for a Court Judgment after expiry of the time limit given the defendant.
  16. Some interesting info there Steve. Thanks. Yes the ECU has gone to "The Man".
  17. That looks the business as they say. Someone did mention your name two days ago Steve but I felt it would be unfair to ask any Member to do this job just in case it goes T's up. I didn't want to trust Parcelforce with the ECU but they came in cheaper than others when found through Interparcel and not via Royal Mail. I'm hopeful of a good outcome and will be worth the expense if the Car finally will go into Overdrive (I know it could be a solenoid problem) and has more grunt to get me up those long French Hills. It just doesn't seem to have the power I'd expect. This could I suppose be down to a blocked fuel filter. I have a replacement. Twenty five years the Caps must be replaced so doing the examination backwards, perhaps. As I have had no other problem with the Cars engine and it passed its Emissions, if the unit comes back as not repairable then I'd be shocked. I didn't want a dead Car in the drive after a bungle on my part, especially after I've spent quite a lot on it and its grown on me over the last few years. The 93 ECU's are rarer than Hen's teeth so they tell me so fingers crossed.
  18. You can still buy th Climate Control Screen from America. Its about a £100 after import charges. Annoyingly a LHD from China will cost $30 delivered. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-1994-Toyota-Celsior-Lexus-LS400-RHD-Right-Hand-Climate-Control-LCD-Screen/253064035229?fits=Year%3A1993|Make%3ALexus|Model%3ALS400&epid=25011487432&hash=item3aebcabb9d%3Ag%3AGhkAAOxyNSVSTuqv&_sacat=6000&_nkw=LEXUS+LS400+CLIMATE+CONTROL+1993&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0
  19. 9 x 7 inches guessing in old money. I was surprised how large it is. Wish I could tell date of manufacture but .........
  20. Yes I worked it out in the end. Its now winging its way to the States to be (hopefully) rejuvenated with new Capacitors. Not sometihng I planned on - having prepped a workplace over a six month period to do the job and about seven Soldering irons standing idle, but I have to say I bottled it, at the first fence. When my flexible friend didn't seem to want to loosen one side I thought this is not the time to practice my soldering skills. Looked in great shape on the outside of the Sandwich but didn't get to look within. Looked like virgin box. Almost felt it could be a replacement ,or perhaps they all look that good t'other side of the business parts?
  21. Can you pm me on this subject please, if found an electronics guy with the skills necessary to replace the Caps? Thanks Stuart
  22. Work in progress update - found a bolt each side under the Felt liner of the box. Everything still feels pretty solid. Do I have to jemmy the below door downwards? More research needed. I'll go it alone.
  23. I have undone the lower three bolts on my 93 lexus but cannot see how to undo the top two. Steve 2006 write up on the glove box removal I followed yesterday, but ran into a snag. Firstly the G/box door differs slightly, and secondly there is a trap door for the Air bag (I'm assuming) which I am unsure if needs be poked through the hole of the liner before it can be withdrawn. Even attempting this I couldn't get movement of inner liner and also seems incredibly unusual if to change the glove box bulb at the back it would be necessary to go to such trouble. Scotty Kilmer shows in his "replacing a bad ECU" him having removed the lower three screws and then the glove box drops down. But how did he undo the top two holding bolts? this is a mystery the video doesn't explain. I can see my ECU is situated on the lower panel rather than bolted in line with the Car. (I think.) Does the lower part just unplug with lever force between the G/B door and it? Is it just two push in clips? Hate breaking things. Thanks
  24. There were four or five S Class engine sizes for the W140. Not seen the Mag so which size engine competed?. Now if you were asking which one rusts first - there would be no contest!
