  1. I've replied to your personal messge. Sounds like you may not have a CD changer if you haven't recognised it in the Boot? Size of a Shoe Box built behind side cladding. See my comments earlier to test.
  2. It takes some pressure to break a footrest but I seem to recall a Merc I bought had a broken footrest., so maybe as you say is covering a broken footrest or the plastic is there for removing but has been left on? It looks a nice car (the black one) and I'm almost tempted but then logic kicks in and tells me I must stay with my dimpled LS400 until D do us P.
  3. We've had a pm conversation about the Radio not working and you tell me that the Disc Changer in the boot doesn't open. As the disc changer opens without the key in the ignition, I suggest that having already removed the Radio once, after re-charging your battery you leave the Radio disconnected a couple of days to see if your battery still runs down. To use the radio, the ignition needs to be at ACC, however there is power to the Disc Changer in the boot at all times and I'm assuming (maybe wrongly? ) that the power goes via the Radio loom? By doing this you should eliminate all other possibilities than Radio and Disc Changer as your drain. Entirely your decision to do this, of course.
  4. Been wondering what that plastic is behind the foot hand brake. Is it normal to keep dirt away from carpeting? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRESH-IMPORT-2005-TOYOTA-CELSIOR-LEXUS-LS430-RACE-DRIFT-SHOW-VIP/283380785527?hash=item41facfa177:g:0xkAAOSw0BtbyzzF:rk:1:pf:1
  5. Fewer of the '93's around I suspect but the styling didn't improve in the later cars (only my opinion and bias) but then the older the Car the more problems, may surface. Parts, I suggest you look at Rockauto.com and scroll down to Lexus LS400 1993 and check out whatever you feel may worry you about parts. I've not had any difficulty in finding parts. Only the ECU would be a problem if it needs attention or replacement. Otherwise, service parts for these 25 year old cars are plentiful.
  6. Aero Blades are good and cheap but you may need to slightly mod the Drivers side to get it to fit. Also the passenger side may need a bit of a shave so it doesn't touch the bonnet - from memory. Last replaced two years ago and still clearing the screen nicely.
  7. Of course, it could be that someone replaced the Radio with a modern display Radio unit splicing up the wiring and just put the Radio back without re-connecting the harness. Too much trouble. You won't know 'til you take it out. Sounds like you bought it from an old friend often mentioned on the forum, well known for being economical with the truth. No names of course.
  8. It will be a non-interference engine so cam belt breaking won't destroy the engine from what I've read but may let you down at just the wrong moment. You may have a few expenses to come but it will be worth it to drive a V8 and not your run of the mill Car. All those things listed I've had to deal with and not surprising as a 25 year young beast. What colour is the Car out of interest and did you check the MOT History status online before buying?
  9. This may be the one - check it against Colins data A bit cheaper https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-LS-400-SALOON-1989-1990-1991-1992-1993-1994-REMANUFACTURED-ALTERNATOR/261619792445?hash=item3ce9c13a3d:g:uNIAAOSwY45UNNom:rk:1:pf:1&frcectupt=true
  10. Did the Radio work when you bought the Car? Recently I think? Have you asked the previous owner if it worked? If it was a coding problem I assume that the display would say something along the lines "no code" or "insert code"? You've tried putting a Tape in but nothing happens?
  11. Always check out youtube as lots of vids on repairs to LS400's. I have a spare from a 1993 Lexus but don't know if it works. PM me if interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OgjAv5aUi4
  12. Its the only thing I miss about the W140. Pity it can't be fitted to a LS400. Will have to wait until, and if, I upgrade in the future.
  13. Does the LS430 have soft close doors? Was this optional and from what date.
  14. Is this deja vu Andy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-1993-Intermittent-Fault/223340611165?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3Dc617bc9148154d58a43108bc1fc342e2%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D223341047978%26itm%3D223340611165&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1
  15. That made me laugh, and Pete my wife suggested she thought she recodnised........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM7HCwP7ly4
  16. I think with the amount of traffic around these days, the Cats eyes would have a much shorter life than in the 20th Century and as one whose picked up a stud from a Cats eye it would be like having a Bullet hit the Windscreen if one breaks out of the Rubber mould, whch they certainly do. Its a matter of cost and liability I imagine. Personally, I hate driving over Cats Eyes when overtaking.
  17. Make mine a Pint! Actually it isnt a full Moon until early next week but at 1am this Morning as the Moonlight streamed into my front door fanlight it seemed more than half full to me and certainly lit the Hallway.
  18. And restart my Gambling addiction - never! Seriously, I have been a couple of times to Monaco once for the Grand Prix when Schumacker was put to the back for Shenannigans in the positioning trials or whatever they are called. Had an almost imposible view from the road leading to the Palace, stood with a sheer drop of a hundred foot and a few Drunk annoyed Germans to the left of my Son and his Girlfriend. Girls sitting on the low wall with their backs to the drop and the Germans pretending to push them backwards has given me acute Vertigo ever since. Don't want the reminder but would love to see the collection.
  19. Its not April first, but I do wonder if headlights always look poorer when there is a full Moon, as there is now. Pretty sure this is so, witrh road reflection, but maybe I'm talking twoddle?
  20. My 7 year old Yuasa might have lasted longer if I hadn't left the car at the airport for two weeks with the security system triggered. Do need be careful as to the right battery as they sent me one with the terminals reversed originally. And as you say need to be certain of unusual fitment area.
  21. My '93 th gearbocx fluid is cooled via the internal pipes to the Radiator so probably the same for later. I had a problem with my W140 where the pipe just dropped off OUTSIDE the radiator and I think it was the Valeo Rads that caused numerous problems on Mercs. Douby they are fitted to Lexus? I bought a Nissens 64756A Rad to replace the original which after 25 years might be prudent but have yet to do. Fact is, if you don't see the slightest rust in your expansion tank perhaps you can assume that the corrosion inhibitor where the right fluid is used, is doing its job. More modern Rads have the plastic top and therin lies another story of expansion/contraction variances causing... if I'm not mistaken.
  22. Did he mean? My last one did 7 years https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yuasa-Car-Battery-Calcium-Black-Case-12V-700CCA-90Ah-T1-For-Lexus-LS400-4/372234324196?hash=item56aae508e4:g:FmMAAOSw30NalKVn:rk:1:pf:0
  23. With my own ECU Stu, I had my bench lined up to do the job. Must have been six Soldering irons and all sorts of fluxes etc. Having removed the obvious corner screws and the thing not coming apart I bottled it and just put the srews back and sent it to America for a rather expensive repair. Took four weeks to return and in between I bought the one on t/bay. Both arrived by Postman on the same day so reinstalled my original. There had only been one issue (and members advice on the subject) that made me think it could need Caps replacement. The Car behve fine in idle, started first time but when I got up to speed and say 80mph in France instead of the O/D seeming to come into play, the car jerked and I instinctively throttled back with a feeling of anxiety. So, never taken the Car above this speed, Has the replacmeent Caps sorted this? No so must be a gearbox solenoid issue, but still not checked the OBD port to confirm. Laziness and too cold to venture out. If nobody buys the ECU I'm selling I may invest in sending it to your linked repairer to have the Caps replaced.I've no knowledge of its history but for the price you paid I'd keep it just in case I ever felt inclined (not likely, I suspect) to install it and see what results with my O/D situation. The Car drives much the same as berore I spent the money on the ECU. Sharp enough but under load uphills say the Amberzacs it struggles. Mond you I will now turn off O/D to get up those hills so it could be my driving it wrongly that causes it to struggle. Perhaps you'll let me know the name of the guy? (will cut off here as Andy message coming through)
  24. Wouldn't say it was a doddle, so leave it to someone confident. Hidden screws under the Glovebox lining flummoxed me for a while as I mentioned on a thread here at the time, screaming for help. A few things to consider. Firstly, there is a port for reading error codes on your Car and I've put a link below. Its a rectangular box under the engine bay easy to spot. (edit - sorry you've done this) Secondly, I would want to be sure that the seller of the Caps has imported them from a legit producer or is a member of this forum. Ask for an image of a Receipt to show they purchased them from America and that they are not Chinese imitations that have flooded the market and that this person is making a mint selling as genuine. Trouble ahead if not genuine. Lastly, I'm amazed it would only take an hour to do the job of replacing all eight Caps, bearing in mind the complexity of sandwich pcb and possible leakage from originals. (see expert level soldering) Lastly, lscowboy (in Stu's video link) told me he pays £1000 for a litre of flux and the job takes him some time to do. How you find someone to do it for £40 I can't understand but as long as they don't screw the ECU then who can complain. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vynb_HdEIDU
  25. Andy I think Scotty Kilmer answers your Q. Slight difference in process with your '93 and it lies flat rather than upright, but similar and there is a lexus video on removal but you'll get the gist that its not Rocket Science. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOSEJu7_Upc
