  1. As a Francophile great symapthy for the terrible Notre Dame tragedy. Could the Car be running on 7 cylinders? It's easy to splice a Spark plug Lead, when putting back the covers as I found when I replaced my own. I was surprised to see how easy this could happen. Another thing, are the Spark plug leads seperated as they should be and not overlapping in some way which might affect performance? If you haven't touched the Lead set then not the problem. Just a few thoughts.
  2. I've recently had an annoying sound from the front which turns out to be the Brake Back plate. The lower part has corroded away from two of the four bolts and was vibrating against a nearby part. Ordered a replacement part from amayana for £28 and thought Yippee, but unfortunately they refunded my money yesterday as the part is "unavailable". I wired the lower part (rear of the brake disc) to the Caiiper to a point that does not move. Will have to remove the wire before MOT in August.
  3. I photo'd this a couple of years ago when I thought it might be the fuse had blown for my Cigar lighter. Couldn't get the cover to move and as have sciatica I photo'd to try to tell how the cover came off. At the time i found it was the fusible link in the lighter which was burnt out. Could your lighter if it doesnt work be the source of your drain, perhaps? They commonly don't work becuase of that link. Did you discover how to remove this cover? Are those two clips that need pushing in, or what? I've definately blown the fuse in my lighter which is a poor design in terms of insulating the pos from the neg. so need to try to get at the fuse. Will be fun!
  4. Also used to open up a Forecourt as a Teenager and squirt the odd red-ex into customers tanks. I use a half bottle of Wynns Injector cleaner on our 600 mile trip to France based on the fact that otherwise I'm only using the Car to go a mile or so to the Supermarket regularly. (must soot it up) Especially necessary just before the MOT I've found. Bought of the Bay for under a fiver. ps. One day Brian Poole and the Tremeloes appeared on the forecourt in a fancy Yankee job. Made my day, to serve him.
  5. The panel comes off without removing the Ash tray on the LS400. Its the Gear Shift surround that I can't raise to change the bulb. Will try tomorrow to see if those two brown tabs push in. A bit of advice. Best to use a broad hooked paint scraper hooked under the rubber trim at the back end and held firm whilst pulling upward. Using plastic pry bars at the sides is likely to crack the wood and didn't work for me. I just couldn't get mine to shift until I used the Scraper and I put some grease on the two rear lugs to make sure it comes away easily in future. I messed around and added Vinyl Carbon Fbire on the outer part of the Surround which is why I needed to remove the wood facia during the week. Should have tried changing the bulb same time but the memory is not what it was!
  6. Ooops should have read on as already covered. Doh!
  7. No John that would have to be 3/- used to use mine in a Caff just off Billingsgate. Double Egg, Chips, Baked Beans and a Slice, with a Mug of Rosy lee - those were the days!
  8. feeling a bit foolish having contribulted here. I thought I'd put a small blue LED in the Gear shift but having slightly pulled outward on two brown tabs and found no movement I came in for a cup of Tea. Thinks: Maybe the tabs PUSH inward to relase the cover? Can you recall Phil? ps I have taken off the little red cap on the Hazzard warning bulb (cost me £4) as frankly the switch just can't be seen in the dark.
  9. I occasionally look at other models and read "paddle shift" hmm. Photo's appeared quite nice until.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS250-83000-miles-black-luxury-leather-seats-heated-and-refrigerated-A1vgc/143176382207?hash=item2155fa36ff:g:rU4AAOSwyHxceNwU
  10. I started using Maxxi's on my W140 Merc ten years ago which was unusual in those days, and when I bought the Lexus they have been my preferred choice the last four years. Nexens did not wear well.
  11. I've pm'd you Cliff, but I'll also wirte down here in case someone may have a comment to make. I've at last connected that spare Radio to my wiring. The good news is that it works. The bad news is that I don't know for certain what works as the Radio has a security code that needs to be put in. Having taken it out and put all the gubbins back, and as I write this email I seem to recall that a code of 0000 may have been the default code for Radios. Sorry I didn't even try at the time and can't be bothered to pull everything apart again. So, if its fitted into your Car it should at least show SEC on the display to know that you now have a Radio that doesn't drain your battery. The serial number data is on the Unit and you may find out online how to "unlock" the unit.
  12. Did you establish that when the Radio was completely disconnected that there was no longer a drain on the Battery? The Fuse marked in Green number 20 looks like a Blade fuse and not a Dome fuse - maybe I misunderstand the terminology here as I thought Domes were the square box fuses.?? 20 Is a fuse that affects the power to the Radio, the CD changer and numerous other things. When the Radio is disconnected and the fuse in situ, does the rest of the things listed work? As I said, the CD changer is a permanent live and I imagine it runs via the loom to the Radio and then out to the Changer etc.? The Radio is not a permanent live, but only via the ACC and ignition. You need to check the wiring to the CD changer to see if it has a fault.
  13. Did you establish that your CD player in the boot opens? Its a permanent "live" and if it isn't working then you need to check the cable routing. Is it a 15 A fuse to the Fusebox? Seems low to me as Heater is 20A? Doesn't answer your drain problem given what you say.
  14. Yes, I've always felt that the Door line/window should have matched the Wing and boot upper line. But then again, how would you guys be able to have your Elbow out in Summer? - lol
  15. Is the serpentine belt OK? Changed at any time. Not sure but if beginning to break down (losing teeth) , perhaps it may cause a ticking sound?
  16. QUOTE: Probably not a good idea to stick anything on the airbag - unless you want a new pair of wooden eyebrows if you stack it! You are right, David, I took them off the following day for that reason. Already have Denis Healeys, so don't need a top up!
  17. I'm well pleased with this which at under £20 I've recently bought a second set so I could cover the bottom. Original wheel actually in superb condition leather wise and didn't have to stick it on, so it can be removed without damage. (Excuse all the fiddly stuff - nothing better to do that day !)
  18. You can quote me if you like - I beleive the part number is Lexus Part No.: 47781-50020 COVER, DISC BRAKE DUST, FRONT RH (This is passenger on LHD so should be OK for my Drivers side.) I found this old thread https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/73605-brake-dust-shield/
  19. What looks like a bent back plate is in fact the design to scoop in air. What has broken away is the lower rear of the plate which I've drilled and wired as a temporary fix. Not ideal but necessary until I can buy a replacement plate.
  20. Found one on a US site for $21 came to £36 when shipping calculated but then said Don't Ship - doh! Toyo its Euros 35 plus the rest I imagine. Will bend back and see fragility. Too damn cold, biting wind today, so Jacks etc. out of car but will have to wait a bit longer. Anyone seen these. If they were Gold or Black and guaranteed not to melt then I'd buy a set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ABS-3D-Red-4PCS-Car-Universal-Disc-Brake-Caliper-Covers-Front-Rear/263669503795?fits=Model%3ALS400|Make%3ALexus&hash=item3d63ed5733:g:jRIAAOSw4jFa8UPb#shpCntId
  21. You did well to spot it. Arn't they painted black? Feel sure mine is? Always useful to have one of those telescopic magnets even if they do tend to make all other tools in the bag, magnetised. Blutack on a stick end is also a useful device to recover from the Engine tray when things fall down.
  22. Its causing vibration against that lower ball joint which is annoying, so I'll take off the wheel and bend it back - when the inclination takes me! It will be worth investing in a replacement part as I think there is a tear which shows a sign of fatigue, but it will be low on my list of priorities. That was some strong weed that snagged it. Sure we've all attempted to pull out a weed only to find it defeated us.
