Bit of confusion I caused by mentioning a second car seen listed. The nice one in Clacton I assume was sold yesterday as no longer availalbe. Mentioned it was a respray and in Burgundy Pearl the original colour. The Mk 4 I've no idea but was certainly sprayed over the wheel arch but I didn't reearch the mileage Definately had Burgundy colour in 1992 https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail.cgi?paint=1990|Lexus|Burgundy Pearl

Bought Car with a Yuasa which died after leaving at the Airport. It had been in the Car for seven years. Replaced with a Yuasa which was ran to virtually zero charge a year or so later - car stopped running cluster lights barely flickering, owing to Alternator death. Massive boost by Tow people should have killed it. When got home put on the trickle charger and its still going great after must be 18 months. Yuasa gets my vote. Bosch experience with Mercs, was OK.

I thought I'd ask Google if Vegetarians f**t more than Meat eaters and this is what I read " Apparently, it's because of all the beans they eat. ... This leads to an increase in certain bacteria in the lower intestine to break down the beans, which produces large amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas." Also " Methane production per KG (of body weight) in a vegetarian is probably higher than that of a cow, since the digestive system of a human is not adapted for fermentation of vegetation (like a cow’s) So is going Veggy greener?

Wouldn't it be better to examine with the weight off the wheels? Do you have a MOT coming up any time soon and is it with a third party or your mechanic? Might be worth getting a MOT to hear a second opinion? I'm not knowledgeable on sub frame bushes? but Upper Control Arms might be worn though seems unlikely on such a young Car. I have a worn hub bush which does squeek. Have had new rear UCA's for three years now as told they may need changing but not had MOT advisory so they are still in their bags. Rare that Mechanics are more rigid than MOT inspectors.

Phil, Different Antimony content, cheap verses expensive battery - Life time expectancy seen on the sales lit. How long in storage before purchase. Long pauses between use and /or short runs only, can reduce battery life. That explains the battery. Wheel Bearings - depends on the manufacturer and way Car is driven, road conditions etc. Unless you can show a case where the Car has been owned from outset to the failure there won't necessarily be evidence of what is original. Same with Starter motors although short runs and many start up situations will affect it more than irregular use of a Car. Daily start ups as opposed to once weekly start up. Fact is, without owning a Car for the whole of its life you cannot be certain of the history of its parts and I don't think we have a Member who has owned their Lexus LS400 for the whole of its life? I only say that two parts in regular contact must wear similarly for each vehicle where other factors do not contribute and mileage is the measurement. Perhaps we'll agree to disagree, Phil.

I have tried to restrain myself from responding to this, but alas........ How can two identical Denso Alternators with the same internal parts wear out the brushes at different rates on the commutator. A variance yes, but not 100k miles variance. Scientifically impossible I'd have thought. When my Alternator etc failed, the Yuasa Battery which can only have been installed a year or so earlier (from memory) ran totally flat and was Turbo boosted (the kiss of death) by the Pick up people. It was given another turbo boost to start the Car outside my drive and the car did run to put in the drive. You might have thought that the battery would be a gonner. I trickle charged it and its still running today. Yuasa are great batteries.

Yet to make up a tool for Bush removal from Hub whilst in situ. Not seen one on ebay. Most modern Scaffolding pipe is the wrong internal diameter (my 93 bush is differen to later model Car bushes.) but I do have an older length of Scaf pipe which I may be able to cut off a length to oblige. Accuracy is the problem. I found this very useful to watch. Not sure I can somehow strap down the Reciprocating Saw I own as it more bulky etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uckHFP1pFZ4

Quote - 24 years and 227,450 miles too and this the first time an alternator has gone - Unquote. Can you be sure of this fact? Have you owned the Car for 24 years Malcolm? Mine packed up on the M20 much as the expereience of Alexander above, had it gone just a further 500 yards I'd have been at the Stop 24 hour Folkestone Service Centre. Mileage around 120k from memory. Leaking P/S pump probably didn't help but when I opened the Alternator up the Brushes were like packed coffee grouts in the top, so finally worn beyond contact. Can buy replacement Brush set for abour a fiver on ebay. Towed back 100 miles on trailer I had to replace both Alternator and P/S pump in my driveway. Didn't let on that I had a replacement new Alternator in the boot, as unlikely that it would have been fitted and couldn't be sure at the time that it wasn't the P/S pump leak that was to blame. Ferry to France went witohut us, that day.

And now for something completely different! I know a lot of people on the forum have Mercedes past experience and for good reason some Cars can be money pits which have leaned us toward Lexus.. If I had had the space and time, I certainly would have taken a punt on this vehicle. Of course it maybe that it has no engine, or that title may be disputed but someone i.m.o will have got a bargain I suspect. As a second Car - yes please https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293381314077?_trksid=p2471758.m4703

Flat tyres, covered in moss, I think it would have been better if it had been a Barn find. Seized Calipers, possible internal engine damage (I had an MR2 garaged for six years and during that time it developed a Head gasket corrosion problem) and then would you have to change the Cam belt? - big expense. New tryres etc etc. Good luck to anyone who wants the challenge when you can get a MOT'd one for maybe £2k upward.

Good to hear you don't have any problem with the LPG system. Single Point can be risky but I recall seeing a LS400 for sale with over 300k on the clock with single point and the vaporiser was laid on its back which is not the correct position. The seller said he never had any problems. Didn't have a Flashlube kit installed as I recall. I've a complete Stag LPG sequential system stuck in my Hall which if I lived nearer to Wales I'd have had installed by the people often recommended on this forum. Maybe next year? A few things to sort as priority first. Quote: have also done an 'Aux in mod' to allow me to use my ipod or phone as an input on the factory head unit, sounds great for a little bit of soldering and 4 relays with a switch unquote. Any photo's on that? Didn't think it ws possible.
