Just a thought and it may not have any relevance but could the throttle butterfly valve have become detached/broken or jammed. If you have witnessed the low compression factor in person then it will not be worth considering, but Garages do like to maximise the oooh arrr thats going to be expensive shrug.

DVLA not working as it should. I have taxed the vehicle and used it for the first time since purchase. Fact is, I got the V5c recently but despite this, the below is the process DVLA took me through whih I basically had to ignore each message. Perhaps the seller has not applied for a refund? Tax a Vehicle – today visited DVLA 01-04-2021 Below comes up Check vehicle details Registration number X838 RPU Vehicle make LEXUS Tax class PLG (Private/Light Goods) Tax/SORN status Your vehicle will be taxed from 01 April 2021 Are you aware that your vehicle's current tax is not due to expire until 01 September 2021? However, if you have been told to tax by DVLA, please continue with the transaction There is a Direct Debit due to auto renew on 01 September 2021. If you continue with your application you may be charged twice. This will auto renew provided you have a valid MOT (if applicable) and insurance (if the vehicle is registered to a Northern Ireland address) when your vehicle tax is due. Incorrect details? By clicking 'Continue' you agree to the DVLA checking the following (if relevant): that your vehicle has an electronic MOT/GVT certificate Find out how we do this Followed by this Before you continue The Vehicle Is Currently Taxed The tax is due to expire on 01 September 2021. This is a Direct Debit that will auto renew provided you have a valid MOT (if applicable) and insurance (if the vehicle is registered to a Northern Ireland address) when your vehicle tax is due. If you continue with your application you may be charged again. If you have recently acquired this vehicle (and do not have a V5C Registration Certificate in your name) and you are taxing it for the first time please click here If you have received a letter from DVLA advising you to tax your vehicle please proceed with your application and click continue. Alternatively, if you wish to stop your application please click cancel. Cancel application

No, I'm at the shrinking stage of life. I was thinking of my '93 LS400 which has a lower roof line. The GS I notice gives me more head space but I've yet to drive it so was still thinking of the LS400. I'm 6.1. Never had a problem with the various S Class Mercs I owned. Taller and Wider, but later model Lexus have since got it right. The LS400 was made more for the Japanese adult I suspect, even though it was to be marketed in the USA. They may have designed it with the Lady of the House in mind? Come 1st April the GS will be taxed - hoping its not an April fools day!

Sunroofs can be a pain and for me the lower ceiling causes static to the few strands I have left. Also, they invariably will be the source of trouble to come and how ofter are they used? Climate control requires all glass to be closed and is a much nicer experience i.m.o. Regret this GS and my LS have a Sunroof but hey ho!

I see that Malcolm. Yes it was a Silver Grey Mk 4 and its MOT looked very reassuring. Sorry I didn't save it to favorites or take down the Reg number before looking it up. Doh! Was priced at £1975 or thereabouts from memory. They are rare in this area and if I hadn't bought the GS300 I'd have certainly given it a look. Wonder where it will turn up? F/B somehow opens at West Begholt (Constalbe Country) for some reason?? Not my address area. It was at Frinton-on-Sea.

Someone may be interested in this one owner Car just up the road from me. Please don't ask me to inspect I've made two boo boo's this year already and wouldn't want the responsibility. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/493336868339675/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_top_picks&referral_story_type=top_picks&tracking={"qid"%3A"6941723199617404043"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"895109168829299629"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A895109168829299629%2C\"target_type\"%3A6%2C\"primary_position\"%3A0%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A1269583463590133760%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A501%2C\"value\"%3A0%2C\"upsell_type\"%3A21%2C\"grouping_info\"%3Anull}"}

V5c arrived today - at last! Seven former keepers last owner not named - suppose this is owing to DPA or GDPR? Battery charged. May even get to drive it now, although still shown as taxed and DVLA "tax a vehicle" says wait for reminder. No longer in a hurry as appointments to keep next week so will use the Corolla and not risk this Car, just yet. Hey ho! Borbet wheels will go on sale at an exhorbitant price, now that they have been refurbished in Alabaster Cream and I have new set of Borbet locking nuts.

It's design was perhaps copied by Mercedes as it looks more modern even today than the LS430, however they seemed to go cheaper on the trims for the Japanese customer. Such a pity. I had a conversation with someone in Oz who bought one and I think started a short thread "Crown Majesta" from memory as considered importing one back in the day. Will need a specialist Veneerer (?) to replace. Tragic if the Celsior was also cut price when it came to trim.

Tried "chat" with DVLA and reply to my enquiry. No explanation why the V5C/2 green slip reference number is stated to be "not valid". Genuine part, as watermarked and tore off myself. . They've just ruled out being able to register with V5C/2 "Can take up to 8 weeks to process, we will need to allow more time. To tax i would advise to call us with the VIN/CHASSIS number of the vehicle please. Contact Centre Vehicles Enquiry line - 0300 790 6802. The Contact Centre opening times: 8am - 8pm (Mon – Fri) 8am - 4pm (Sat)" Not dealt with battery issue so will give a few more days. New Yuasa in the Hall but under strict instructions not to do heavy lifting. Will charge old and get mechanic to install. Difficult location for lifting, by bulkhead. Still, won't be as heavy as the LS400 Yuasa.
-
You notice they don't show the Dashboard. One of the issues with the Crown Majesta was the wood veneer / plastic wood veneer (?) peeling or cracking under heat. Also the Dash board surround can crack. Check out other examples on a japanese auction website. Otherwise, lovely to look at and great shape.

If the replaced P/S pump did not have the Valve connecting the pipes to the ICV and Throttle conduit then you will (as I know on my '93 LS) find the steering is very heavy when stationary. Need to rev slightly with left foot on brake to lighten - annoying. I kept the part for the P/S pump but spliced the pipes to bung up the two input pipes. Mistake, as would put back if I had opportunity. Won't concern me for a while !

Guess this may not be possible on modern Cars but had something similar on my 1934 Riley. The Battery was in the boot and the cable ran into a Switch knob behind the Drivers seat. As it was a push button start it needed a hidden switch. A Boat switch with plastic key is an alternative to the metal one here used. Where to hide? thats the Q. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhXLsrZiE0

I did that, and repeat here what comes up after entering the 12 digit number Taxing a vehicle Unable to use service Unfortunately you cannot use this service as the V5C/2 reference number you have used is invalid. You should have received a V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) in your name for the vehicle, please use the reference number from this to renew your vehicle tax. If you have not received the V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) for the vehicle, in your name, please complete form V62 - application for a vehicle registration certificate and send to DVLA Swansea. Click here to get V62 Suggest we call it a day until I fill out the V62. Thanks for your thoughts.

If you check your own V5c and the keeper part you will see that an eleven digit number is required to sorn and the Keeper has a twelve digit number - hence the rejection that I've copied and pasted. You can't tax the vehicle where it is alredy seen as taxed -which I've also copied and pasted. I can only file a V62 next week. The seller has not returned my call whee I left a message to confirm he posted the V5c. Frankly I'd be really surpised if he hadn't as he had six months tax to get back.
-
No, I don't believe you can do either. If you check the status of the Car tax situation and it says "taxed until" you can't put it on Sorn and you can't tax it, unless you are on the V5c. You can’t Sorn the vehicle as you need the 11 digit number from the V5c which is not on the New Keeper Detail slip. See below for SORN No V11 received. Choose when it starts Immediately Use the 11-digit number on your vehicle log book (V5C) to take the vehicle off the road immediately. On the first day of next month Use the 16-digit number on your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) to take the vehicle off the road from the first day of next month. You can only use this number once. oOo Taxing a vehicle Unable to use service Unfortunately you cannot use this service as the V5C/2 reference number you have used is invalid. You should have received a V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) in your name for the vehicle, please use the reference number from this to renew your vehicle tax oOo I'll wait until next week, as the battery has died and I need get it replaced and then apply using the form V62. A bit cheesed off with DVLA and the Car, if I'm honest. Good job I've got the Corolla as a standby but that will be on its way once I've got this Car sorted, assuming I don't find any other problems. My Study is like a Parts Department at the moment! Refurbeed Grandstand wheels should be back later today or tomorrow, but only as Rims, bar one tyred for the boot.

Your paint code is on the VIN Plate. You can find the Toyota Paint code data online. I imagine that the Boot has been re-sprayed if the Bonnet and Roof are the same colour. Lacquer lifting in the past, perhaps. Don't trust ebay sellers of paint they claim will match. It won't. Here's a reliable seller who you can touch base with and discuss as they may produce a varient of the original paint to make allowance for fading. Autopaint (St Helens) 01744 818102. They produced paint for my Car which has the code 4K9 which is Toyota Chromatic Beige. Bit like Smoke Silver to look at.

I've been waiting since the 30th January 2021 for the V5c in my name as new owner. The Car is still recorded as taxed until October 2021 so the seller also hasn't had the advantage of a tax refund. Checking the option Forms it seems to me that I'd need pay £25 as if I'd lost the original V5c. I don't fancy having the small green slip sent to DVLA by the Post Office as I recall the fact that I discovered after (was it twelve years??) that DVLA had cancelled my Driving Licence instead of that of my Brother which I submitted on his death in a Motor accident. Only discovered that becuase went to hire a Van and they said I didn't have a Driving licence. Dougie of UKIP sorted for me! So, although I could give the car its first drive thinking that any Police Car would find the car recorded as having tax, I just don't care for the hastle if such bravery is found out. The good news is that the Boys turned up and took away the Grandstand Wheels and replaced with the ones I've had in my hall for weeks. The five will be refurbished and I'll almost certainly sell four of them and keep the fifth 18 inch as a spare in my Boot. I now have 17 inch rims but the two rim and tyre size match to .03 % I quite like the look of the new Rims. Tidy, anyway. New Aero Wiper Blades arrived and as I have one fog light broken glass, I've ordered a pair of Yellow Glass fog lamps with bulbs from USA to replace. Good job I'm a patient Man although perhaps more like a Patient, these days!

Hi Good luck with the Car. Got similar problems with GS300 jsut purchased. What is it about the Colour Maroon that seems to shed its lacquer clear coat? No such loss of lacquer on my 93 LS400 but does have other issues with Hail damage. There's a link to a thread water in Passenger side Boot on the GS300 forum if you want to take a look.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I'd be happy with cost of £500 to bring it back but I fear it will be more than double or triple that, given it will need cross by Ferry and then another 160 miles to my home. I wouldn't give a thought to registering it in France. Franch Bureaocracy is renowned to drive a person mad. I could advertise if for sale on Lebencoin and have other things I'd like to get rid of. The Car was able to drive into the Garage so can turn a corner but I'd like to fix the problem before transportation. Its only been idle for seven mnoths and I disconnected the Battery negative (hope the Alarm hasn't gone off and infuriated the neighbourhood) I've replaced a lot on that Car to get it into a reliable(????) condition and would like it back. This GS300 I've yet to drive and the people going to take away the wheels for refurbing and replacing failed to appear today. Have since said will be tomorrow. Will it be a keeper? Well I've already bought Cam Belt, Cam parts, Serpentine Belt, new Water pump and new bottom Ball joints so will get it so far and then decide. I may know someone who can and does collect Cars and take them to the south of France but it all depends on the French allowing us to visit etc, etc. The Breakdown Cover was with First 4 Recovery and runs until the 18th July 2021. If I knew I would be able to go over there I'd ask if they have any Transporter currently that can pick up the vehicle, perhaps paying an extra premium. They basically passed me to a French organisation who didn't even recognise that the Road I broke down on had not been a National Highway for ten years having been by-passed! This is what you have to deal with! My French is poor. https://www.thegoodlifefrance.com/leboncoin-one-of-the-most-popular-websites-in-france/
