  1. 100% the pyro fuse on battery lead, explosively severs the battery connection to the car 12v battery, if airbag is deployed. Will probably need the whole battery harness replaced, as unlikely you can buy just the fuse part. Google Mat Armstrong on YouTube, he has many examples of this in the cars he has repaired….
  2. European Rx are Japan made, American RX are USA made. Have had a couple of low 40mpg runs over 150-200mile motorway journeys. Generally need to keep speed down, flatish roads and summer time though…..
  3. As a 500h owner over 1.5yrs and 20k+ miles can answer a few questions. my useage type is mostly motorway with only some town and B road. Summer mpg on motorway is high 30’s, occasionally low 40’s depending on how quick I wish to progress. Town driving can be anywhere from low 20’s to 40+ depending on how well you can maximise the small hybrid battery. After trying all the various modes, I’ve settled on driving it almost exclusively in Eco mode, which seems to give a better throttle pedal travel map, allows easier slow speed use of EV mode, doesn’t change power or delivery at out of town speeds. Winter, can knock 10-15% off above. The gearbox is conventional 6spd auto, it’s ok, quick to shift not noisy, tends to hold its gears occasionally. Car is pretty swift, especially in gear times, 30-70, or 50-100 it is more than capable of embarrassing many a more conventionally sporty car! it’s definitely setup as Fsport only with a more sporty intent. The rear wheel steer gives it a lovely turn in and pivot, makes it quite agile. On downside the suspension gives way too much body roll and head toss, so spirited driving on a and b roads can be a rolly polly experience. Sport mode on dampers doesn’t improve much other than make the ride stiffer. I did need to use it on the German autobahn to reduce a floaty feeling in excess of 100 though. Tyres on mine were Michelin Pilot Sport4, I need to look to replace the fronts now at 24k, rest of the car has been virtually faultless apart from a few software niggles and recalls for minor things. Unheard of for me for what was a launch model.
  4. Could be wheel alignment, I had an Audi that handled terribly after a recall to fix something in rear axles, the wheel alignment was all to pot…
  5. It should be fine, it has a snow/rock/mud button, but no ev mode button on the 500h. It will run in EV mode up to about 40mph for a short distance though. It also has rear steering and a 6spd auto. It drives and handles very differently to the RX450 4th gen. I would advise a test drive. tyre size is a bit odd at 235/50/r21, not sure how available cross climate or snow tyres are. Summers are only available from a few brands.
  6. Mmm, interesting views on the Dunlop. I have Michelin PS4 on my 500h and at 22k miles fronts are approaching 3mm and will need changing soon. I was looking at choices and the size is pretty odd so not much choice, coupled with Michelins being double the price of the Dunlops…. Looks like price per mile maybe similar though. FYI, I do mostly motorway miles
  7. Tank also has a very slow fill and when pump first clicks off, I can usually get another gallon at least in it, with big air gurgles as it fills. So in my view, it’s a conservative range estimate, and a poor tank design, means short fills and more trips to the petrol station. It is 65ltrs though I have had that in it a couple of times.
  8. Not in my experience, 22k miles so far and engine/gearbox has been great. Nothing done other than service every 10k miles as usual.
  9. I was given 1 fob with metal blade and 1 metal blade. 2nd Fob turned up 12mths later. couple in at same time as me with RZ had same issue as you, given extra fob but only 1 blade, they were complaining as didn’t have the ring to attach it to anything….
  10. Hi, you can tone down and turn off some of the settings like the driver monitor msgs, and turn the volume down on the various beeps and bongs. Other settings like the speed limit beeping, you need to turn off every time the car starts. I’ve got used to that, just turned the volume of it down to the minimum. If you have radio or music on you barely hear it. I have a love hate with the lane keep assistance, great on a motorway when on cruise control, poor on other roads where it seems to have a tendency to try and pull you towards the verge or centreline rather than keep you in lane, it’s easily confused so I turn it off. Lane change assistance is useless in my view. Adaptive cruise that stops and restarts is great in traffic jams, almost works flawlessly but has a habit of resuming automatically fine then just not doing it anymore, so you have to touch the accel after a while. I can’t fathom why. my radar cruise also has trouble in the wet, where a light spray seems to make it loose the car in front intermittently. Very disconcerting. It’s about to go in for a service and hoping they can fix it.
  11. Mmm, thanks for looking, I swear I’ve seen a different part online. The Italian front plate size is 355x110mm. Need an Italian RX 5 owner to confirm what they have. The Italy Lexus site shows a render same as UK. Now off to try and find a pic of an Italian RX……..
  12. I want to change the front number plate plinth to a shorter one as I want to mount a short UK private number plate. The UK plinth would have excess black plastic either side which I don’t want. There appears to be a range of number plate plinths globally and the Italian region one looks perfect for my needs. The plinth appears to mount on 2 bolts into the grille/crash bar and some clips into the Fsport grille, so I imagine they are interchangeable. I can’t get a UK Lexus dealer to tell me what the part is or costs as they say they need a VIN from an Italian car to search for and reduce the hundreds of options available to them. can anyone tell me a part number or is prepared to share a VIN so I can search? It must be a FSport version as the grille design is different. Thanks in advance.
  13. I was one year, January 23 to Jan 24 to get key and locking wheel nuts. RX owner.
  14. The speed limit exceed bong has to be turned off every time. The speed limit change bong can be turned off permanently. I’ve learned to just ignore it, it eventually fades into the background, you can set the various bongs and noises to be the lowest setting and if you have music on you can barely hear it. Lane Keep assist also seems to have to be turned off every time, but at least that is 1 button on the steering wheel. we need a list of all the different bings and bongs as there are so many it is itself distracting.
  15. Mmmm, will have to see about this with mine too then.
  16. That is strange. Interested to know what happens. In typical fashion mine worked flawlessly for 90+mins today. 🙄
  17. It has a rear wiper, it’s hidden under the rear spoiler at the top, wipes from top down.
  18. Yep, forgot about the bottom of the doors getting filthy, but it does keep the sill clean so your leg doesn’t get covered, (looking at you Audi with your sill steps). Fuel tank is meant to be 65ltr. At 0 range the most I’ve got in it is 50ltr, right to the top of the pipe, so it must have 3+ gallon still in it, crazy. I almost got stuck out of the car in recent snow, could not get the door handle button to press in, so couldn’t open the door, it was cold and would not move. Eventually was able to squeeze it enough to pop the lock, then wrenched the door open. It is poor.
  19. Glad it’s not just mine then, the service team looked at me like I had 2 heads when I explained it to them, the software update I had has made no difference so resigned to telling them again at the next service point.
  20. Probably 80% motorway cruising with cruise control, 20% round town. I’ve found I drive it mostly in Eco mode, better throttle pedal map, but still full power get up and go when pressed hard. There is little difference between it and normal. If you are really heavy with right foot and doing short journeys only, 20’s I can believe. But if short journeys is what you are doing the. The 450h plugin or the 350h would be better. It is the performance version, its doesn’t try to be economical.
  21. Having had the car since May23 and it being a launch model (reg 31/1/23), thought I'd driven enough now (all over UK and to Florence via Germany and back!) to give a review and my thoughts on good and bad. Good Styling is good, I much prefer it to the previous gen, except the front / front 3/4 view, the 'beak' on the bonnet/grille is jarring and a dark colour hides it more in my view. Comfortable, quiet, pretty powerful and quick when it needs to be. Adaptive shocks and rear steer means it pretty nimble too when needed, ride is very acceptable depsite not being air-springs. The Rear steer makes a difference in the car parks and manouvering too., visibility is great both with Mk1 eyeball and the cameras. Engine and 6spd auto are great, no hesitations ( I came from a Audi SQ5 with its 8spd, it was really bad for not making its mind up), and imperceptible changes too. Cabin is fine, screen is mostly good, fix and finish internally is good, nothing squeaks or rattles, nothing has failed, as you would expect of Lexus, really. The Bladescan headlights are pretty good too, if a little sensitive to reflective roadsigns. The adaptive cruise and lane keeping works well, though the msgs it shows up in HUD and dash are a pain sometimes. German Autobahn was an indicated 200kph/125mph and still pulling when I had to slow for other traffic, quick to get there too. Bad Software, again! I left Lexus partly because I was fed up of the poor software implementations in their cars and apps. Audi while not perfect, was pretty good. *****, even Alfa Romeo in car software did everything you wanted/needed. Lexus, updated to Carplay etc, but the mobile app is abysmal and the in car setup is still pretty poor. Options are buried away in menu's, some menu's can only be seen in other sections. Some options naming, make no sense (overtake prevent - you mean undertake prevent!). The app, the new Lexus Link + one, still can't send to car addresses, you have little info and what is there is frequently wrong or missing. Things don't work as expected - example - in Carplay, when playing audio, if a msg comes in the audio (radio, music) doesn't mute or go quiet whilst it is read out. But hang on, it does if its a podcast that plays. Why?!?! Again its like a committee implemented it and never discussed with anyone in the team. I've had the software updates to "bring the car up to the current new models , sir" whatever that did (note at the dealer not over the air as promised), nothing has changed that I can see. Map updates, display "error, contact dealer". Seats - can't get comfortable in the FSport RX seat, which is a surprise, the ones in the IS of a few years ago were superb. More than one person has commented that they are quite narrow in this RX. Fuel tank filler - between first click off and actually full is nearly another gallon of petrol. the air syphoning out as it fills comes out in great gurgles. Combined with a super pessemistic range guage, its easy to think the MPG is appalling, but its pretty true to the display averaging about 33-34mpg. Max in summer was 40mpg, lowest has been 12mpg (cold short journey) There is no EV button on the RX500h, so you can't force it to do EV only at all. Randomly , the intermittent front wiper setting, keeps going to sleep too. It wipes fine for a while, then it stops and nothing you can do, bar turning it off and on again will make it work again. I can't see a pattern (time, water on screen, number of wipes etc) it just goes to sleep and doesn't wake up. I think its a bug in SW, but who knows. Anyone else with a RX-Gen5 that does this? Finally after almost a year, got the second key and the locking wheel nuts, and I've yet to find out a way to stop it telling me every time I get in, that a new key has been registered. The number of pointless messages it comes up on the screen is rubbish too. It tells you on the dash the washer fluid is low, then logs it in the centre screen and pulls up a full page msg about it too. WHY!!! Lastly, Tyre size is really odd - 235/50R21 Michelin Pilot Sport4 SUV is what it has on it. If you can find them, they are currently nearly £400 each! (the Audi SQ5 I thought was bad for Pirelli special fit PZero 255/45/r21 at £250) There is minimal choice in that size too, so not looking forward to swapping them later this year, or if I get a puncture. They are lasting well though, about 50% worn at the 15k mile mark. Overall I'm still liking it, it makes a comfortable mile muncher on the motorway and yet still an entertaining A-Road overtaker too. I am hoping beyond hope there is further updates in SW coming to fix and deal with some of these gremlins and errors, otherwise I can see myself going back to the Germans again...
  22. Article in Autocar and Autoexpress today saying LBX will be sold at one price with different Atmosphere’s (trims). Elegant, Relax, Emotion and Cool. Price will be premium but competitive.
  23. One comment I would say, having sat in both. I thought that you sit ‘on’ the NX, whereas you sit ‘in’ the RX. A very personal thing I know, but to me I felt perched on the seat in the NX whereas I felt I sat in the seat in the RX. I think the hip point is lower in the RX despite its larger dimensions. Others may not notice or care.
  24. I’d agree, the RX Fsport seats are quite narrow and I consider myself normal ish. 🙂
