Had a test drive yet? I mean - you don't want to waste all this thinking and forum bandwidth if you don't like it.

It's good to take your time though. Having a year or 3 to think about a car means you'll probably end up with the right one.

I thought it for about 7 months but didn't tell anyone.

I always tend to take a year to research the cars I would like before taking the jump. In this instance I started off with focus rs, rs3 and a45 amg and ruled them all out after research. Then over to the e92 and c63 and again ruled them out. After some thought decided to up the budget a bit and hence the rc-f. It ticks almost all the boxes. Just needs an exhaust. I’m not keen on the wheels but they will stay as they are. The goal of this car is to spend as little as possible on it.

Yeah.. I was thinking the same, but since I've lost hope to ever get on housing ladder so will probably going to spend all my income on cars going forward.

Haha, if only the wife would allow that!

There's a silver carbon on Autotrader for £39k or a non carbon in white for £37k. Any good?

Having asked a few what discounts they managed I am hoping to pick up a carbon car (2015) reg for 35k ish next year with no more than 10-15k on it. I do believe that will be achievable.

Your cheapest option then is to have stock mufflers modded.

It’s not about the cheapest option chap. It’s about value for money. If H&S can produce a cat back system with a valve for 1300-1500 that’s ideal. They have a proven track record and produce a quality product. Also they produce a lovely sound. Modifying the stock mufflers would not achieve the goal I am aiming for.

No such thing as perfection, I want quality safe in the knowledge that someone has done a decent amount of R&D and testing and subsequently produces a quality product that does  MOST of what I want.

And in my Quicksilver believe I have that, and with a bit of Rat negotiations I thought £1690.00 all in was a fair price.

It all depends what folk want. If it was a full system including pre cat delete that needed lots of resonance testing, decibel testing etc I’d agree. Or if it was down pipes that need to ensure here are no restrictions on new design, but we are just discussing a cat back system. As long as the materials and workmanship is spot on then not much can go wrong.

Up until this point mainly from reading this forum I have had the impression the Hayward and Scott exhaust was without compromise. Sounds great, well made, looks OEM for those who dont like the idea of the fake tailpipes and is available with and without X pipe depending on your volume preference. The only real issue being the cost.

What do people feel the compromise is with it?

I don’t think here is a compromise personally if you you beget s valve fitted if you need stealth mode.

Not that I disagree... I would actually choose RC-F.. but after exactly 2 seconds of the video I have realised I have no trust in whatever opinion the reviewer has for reasons objective to me (that is long-winded way of saying subjective).

I don't think neither is better nor worse, they are different cars and have different features which will appeal to different customers, so I found even trying to compare them and decide which is better ... well, simply pointless.

Agreed, if it was a one car home gsf but fun second car rcf.

Exactly, like most exhaust systems - I was just making the point that they are genuine carbon fibre tips from a cost perspective and not made to look like carbon fibre.

I’m sure the H&S system will be better value & handy with them so close by. You were very happy with the H&S on your ISF, so no reason to think the RCF will be any different. Do they do valved systems?

That’s my thinking. They do offer a valve. Or at least they did when I bought my isf system from them. Also as you say, having them so close is a big draw as well.

RCF has a flanged connection behind the back axle unlike the ISF which I understand requires much longer pipework. The Quicksilver is effectively only an axle back exhaust & I think the H&S is the same.  @Big Rat Paul will be able to give you more info on that as he was looking at the H&S before he went down the QS route.

As far as price goes it is expensive, but it’s the only exhaust developed for/with Lexus & I understand its a high quality product inc genuine carbon fibre tips They will also discount for a group buy.

The guys who have had the system for a bit tell me there is no drone at motorway speeds either, so it does seem to have been very well designed.

The carbon fibre tip will be over the to of the metal pipe? Don’t deny it’s a good system just be interesting to see what price Hayward and Scott come back with.

  9. So I have managed to negotiate an exhaust before I have even bought the car. My wife is predictable and the negotiation was short and sweet. I am not sure if the benefit of one over the other but prices are vastly different.

    - Hayward and Scott (secondary cat back) This is a cheap system at £816 excluding fitting. Loved the one on my isf.

    https://www.haywardandscott.com/lexus/lexus-rcf.html?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks

    - Quicksilver (secondary cat back). This is expensive at £1880 excluding fitting.

    http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/Products/LEXUS

    - Borla (Primary cat back). This seems like great value given the extra system one would be buying at £1853.

Why is the quicksilver so expensive compared to the others? Am I missing something. It is just a set of back boxes and pipes like the Hayward and Scott system?

  10. Cheers for that. Only issue for me is the lack of a valve. I had a neighbour complain about my isf. During the summer i will leave the house at 6 and sometimes 5 and it was just too loud. Even with shifting to gear. When the times comes I’ll speak with  rat about the possibility of a valve or I’ll have to look elsewhere. Sounds lovely though.

This is cheeky, remember high miles cars going for under £30k... well now one of them costs £32k:

This one is the better from two with sunroof and TVD, but that is not enough just to add new photos and expect £2k extra overnight. Especially, with 46k it fares poorly with other cars around that price.

It was obvious those 2 blue RC-F had to change the prices, but if anything I would have expected one without TVD and sunroof to drop further in price, not for this one to jump by £2k.

When you see how low mileage you can get for 3k-5k more this is an odd price. Can’t see anyone buying at that price.
