  1. HTC phone arrived and while it works its not as good as the Samsung. The screen remains on and the usb ports don't give enough power to charge and run so it was discharging while using. Far too buggy and taking a call while the mirrorlink was running and you go off, so you have to navigate through all the mirrorlink settings again while driving.

Will drive me mad and sygic is no tomtom.

Given up already, will sell HTC on and its Bluetooth and tomtom on a vent mount for me

Manual says its mirrorlink 1.1 it was the first thing I checked. Tested on a Galaxy S6 and the mirrorlink was native, which I am LED to believe the HTC is too. Mirrorlink 1.1 is certified apps only, hence only Sygic as the only premium Nav App, I think the 99p BringGo nav app also works but reviews are not the best. Spotify is via 3rd party rockscout and I think there is a HTC car app that gives an android auto look. Got the phone for £99 and sygic is free for 7 days and also currently 50% off until 10th August (still £42 though) so will give it a good test. If its too buggy will just sell the phone on and go back to my Moto via Bluetooth.

  3. OK, the inner child got the better of me, have bought a HTC One M9 just so I can use the mirrorlink facility in the car.   Wasn't spending brewsters so looked for the cheapest highest spec phone to do Mirrorlink, was a toss up between this and a Sony Z3 and ended up with a silly price one on eBay.  So it's a bit of a throw away purchase if the mirrorlink does seem as "buggy" as first play.  Lets hope Sygic Car Navigation is on a par with TomTom :w00t: Anyway it's a new gadget to play with for a bit.

  4. Love the Car as a car,  best car I have ever driven period, so much so just swapped my SE for a new Sport, and although a little firmer and a few mpg less (minimal though) it's still the same car and a great drive.

HATE, HATE, HATE the infotainment.  I know it's been done to death, but it's just sh1te !!  it just is.  And I've downgraded from the premium nav in my SE to standard in the Sport so it seems even worse.   How on earth have they made the Bluetooth phone worse than it was on my 14 plate?  Well they have, and don't even mention the satnav.  I've an old TomTom on a 2003 PDA which is better.   It was almost the only reason I didn't swap to the sport, but as I just use my phone for TomTom, Spotify over Bluetooth and the DAB I decided I could live with it.   The mirrorlink facility I tested is almost a saving grace, but I may not even bother as I have to swap my phone and it did look very "buggy".

My niece has just bought a brand new Peugeot 3008 mid range car with TomTom navigation and the choice of Mirrorlink, apple Carplay or Android Auto.  I just can't fathom out why Lexus are still the Betamax of infotainment systems.

With regard to the Lane Keep Assist, the multi-info display will have different settings whereby you can have a chime or vibration of the steering wheel.

In practice, I think it flashes if you are close to the line or its bringing you back into the lane and vibrates only when you're on the line itself.

Cheers, I think I sussed it on the drive today, it was funny the first time I changed lanes with it on and have the car provide force against it.  I guess I will get used to it.  I like all the radar stuff, the adaptive cruise is brilliant, although it leaves too big a gap in my opinion and people move into it which causes a bit of an auto slam on.   I guess you can't change that setting anywhere?   I guess you will learn to anticipate the more you use it.

Had the same black the last time and it's not as bad as a white car I also had?  But we are spoilt for choice for cheap hand car washes up here, so never worth cleaning it yourself.

Standard Nav was OK if I'm being honest, the traffic was about right which I guess is coming from the RDS radio now.   The big test will be the M6 coming home.

  6. Cheers wheels are very smart I have to say.

Yes already missing some of the premium features, all the voice recognition, must admit I just thought that was standard, bit silly of me, but not even sure premium nav was an option with the sport? I got it free last time from a Toyota Lease deal.

For the lane warning when playing on the drive felt the vibration on the wheel when setting, but out in the motorway it just looked like a car pic in the lanes and as you drifted the lane you were heading to just sort of flashed? Probably just me will try again tomorrow.

  7. Warning, Man Child alert,  some spitting of the dummy ahead :yahoo:

Well my new IS300H Sport arrived today with a nice 9 miles on the clock.  Going to take a while to get used to the dial from the Premium Mouse but I guess I'll get used to it.  Slightly underwhelmed but it is almost exactly the same car as before.  Not sure why they have given us a 10" screen when they don't fill it?  Infotainment as Sh1te as normal, and had to wrestle with lots of manual ensembles to get the DAB to even find any stations.  A few old posts on here pointed me in the right direction luckily.   Standard Nav is a horrible interface with the dial, and I couldn't move my Memory Points from the old car as there is no import option on the standard nav.  I barely use it now anyway, always use my phone, hence my want of Mirrorlink !!

New toys were nice, adaptive cruise control was a little freaky but the lane warning was not exactly what I was expecting?  Will try them more tomorrow on a longer drive.

Ride is a lot different on the 18s from the 16s I had on the old SE, performance seems about the same.   Does look better than the old SE and I think I must be bucking the trend with the Sport not having a white one for the Black wing mirror / white car contrast, but as its a company car I never want to pay for paint.  Tight Northerner :whistling1:  Red and black leather is nice though.

Well I borrowed my daughters Samsung Phone though because I was desperate to try out the Mirrorlink.   It's a little buggy and you can only use certified apps which in my case are Sygic Premium Car Navigation (note the car in dash version comes with a hefty price tag, current £62 today if I was to buy) and Spotify which works via another App called Rockscout.

With a bit of fiddling they all work.  Interface is a little limited because of the Lexus Dial.  Seems to be more geared to touch screen infotainment dash systems.  But I managed to work my way around it.

Spotify and Rockscout were very buggy, looks like you are going to have to make sure none are even close to running before connecting to the car because you get a media not found error until you clear spotify and start it again.

Sygic works too, you have to make sure you have a route in before you start the Mirrorlink because without it I was unable to get to the menu on the dash with the dial, however with a route in you can click enter and it gets to the menu which you can then use on the dash.

Is it better than my phone on a vent mount?  I'm not 100% convinced, I will curse the bugginess that is for sure, as an OCD IT Manager, but I may try and embrace it.   Trouble is I will need to swap my phone and buy Sygic,  My Moto doesn't support Mirrorlink and neither does TomTom or Google Navigation.  However at least Sygic subscribe to TomTom traffic so I'm sure I will get used to it.

Anyway some photos, a quick one of the car and then mirrorlink if interested and it's such a shame the infotainment is as bad as ever.

It works in 2017 IS300H no premium nav only navibox.  It's 1.1 mirrorlink so only some specific apps works but you can hack in order to get more apps working rooting a Samsung S5, S6,S7, Alpha. I can help you if needed.

Cheers, not sure what Navibox is?  I have a 2017 Sport coming in a couple of weeks, this comes with standard Nav, not premium, is that what you mean?

I will have a play when it arrives anyway, total bonus if this appears.

Although my phone doesn't do mirrorlink, but I will happily get a second hand s6 for a few quid.

  9. Interesting review, I pick up my Sport at the end of next month.  I've gone for solid black (refuse to pay for a colour for a company car) but I've only got an SE now, so I'm expecting a step up for me, not down?  I must admit I didn't test drive but coming from 16s to 18s I am expecting a different ride.

I am expecting a reversing camera though?  I thought it comes as standard? All face lift models bar the SE come with it?

  10. Not far off 100k in my 2014 SE now and my MPG has never changed.  48 in the winter and 52 in the summer.  Bear in mind the SE has 16s though.

Will be upgrading to a Sport next month and I guess I will notice a real difference going to 18s so will have to get the levels right.

Low 40s just seems too low though.

  11. Horses for courses, I work our of any of 42 sites around the UK and the closest is an hour from my home.  However I do get classed as working from home so 1-2 days I will work from home and I do stay in hotels multiple times a month.   Not really an issue for me, some days will do a 300 mile commute.  Sometime do Glasgow and back in a day.  It's all a trade off.   Currently working on an early retirement anyway so know it won't be forever (although currently in my 17th year of doing this).   I know I certainly could not go back to a 9-5 office job.   The Lexus has made the commute very enjoyable anyway.  Best car I've driven in a very very long time.

  12. Satnav is a complete pile of dogs doo doo.  Gave up ages ago and I have premium Nav (got it for free or else I would have asked for my money back) and I use TomTom on my phone (have never got on with google).

The infotainment almost took me away from Lexus but I couldn't make the sums work on any other similar German c0ck mobile, so have ordered the 2017 Sport.   I know this comes with the standard nav but it will probably only get used when I don't need to worry about the traffic.

I think the Lexus as a company car still can't be beat when you look at BIK tax, business fuel recovery and MPG.

Absolutely spot on, this last 3 years my car costs have been negative.   Seriously I've made money driving my Lexus, I can't believe the German Brigade have not realised what the Lexus brings.

Even with the massive hikes in tax over the coming few years, I think it's up to 26 or 27% by 2018-19 my petrol offset will still only just start costing me money every month.  And that is moving from the 99g SE co2 to the 107g Sport as well :whistling:

  14. 93000 miles driven in my IS300h and it's a metronome 48mpg come rain snow or hail.  Probably 75% motorway though.   As Steve says a brisk acceleration and then back off flicking between EV and Petrol.   Always in Normal, there is no point to ECO mode, just creates Lag to me.   If I sit at 70 mph in the summer it will nudge 52-53 mpg, but I tend to sit at 75-77 and it is seriously rock steady 48 mpg.

This is every bit a motorway car for me even though all reviews claim it isn't,   So much so I've just ordered another but a Sport this time.

The 12500 service interval is the only pain for the miles I do, but it's a company car so not really my problem, just comes around a lot sooner than my old diesels.

  15. I swap in June so will probably be ordering next month, I'm ashamed to say I just point and go I want that one as it's a company car :whistling1:

I was going to go for the advance but I'm not sure I want leather seats again as I do so many miles, so may go back to the Sport, I had almost convinced myself to think about an F-Sport for a bit of fun, but I'm too Alan Partridge now, the mid range will do :wheelchair:

PS. My IS300h is now on 92000 !!  Anybody beat that?   Still going strong I might add.  Battery still working fine.
