  1. Anybody knows who Lexus subscribe to for this?

It is working OK and showed almost an hour and a half delays driving home from Derby last night, so as it's first proper traffic event I let the car choose the route. Ended up taking me from Stoke to Leek, through Buxton, Stockport then onto M60.

I've no issue if this was the best route as I often went direct from Derby to Buxton myself using TomTom traffic when the A50/M6 was bad.

However until I trust this traffic data totally I'm always going to be cautious.

I may even vent mount my TomTom next traffic laden journey as a direct comparison but figured I would investigate the Lexus traffic source first.

  2. Strange? Don't think I'm doing anything special, I just drive with the MPG showing on the mini dash display, with mindset of the longer the blue line the better?

Don't forget 67 miles was on the clock when I got it. I filled it up at that point. So heading for around 650 out of my first tank.

  3. Satnav seemed to behave itself driving down to Birmingham this morning. Can be a bind getting the wifi hotspot in my Iphone cranked up but that is more apple IOS failings that Lexus. I was quite happy with the traffic quality too. I'm quite anal about my traffic and coming from TomTom Live Traffic which was near perfect I was hoping it was at least acceptable and it did update quite frequently and picked up stationary traffic correctly.

Parking seemed to constantly update too even though set to manual so I've switched that off altogether now, can't say I will ever use it anyway.

3mb of data used between Bolton and Halesowen, but will take readings again on the way home with the parking updates off.

Anyway it's off to a good start, will see if it's the same once the calls start coming through too.

  4. Turns out Lex were wrong, it came from Lexus Bradford, who rang to say what is the earliest they can deliver so it was here at 8am.

Slightly miffed they drove it from Bradford though, so my nice new car has 67 miles on the clock. Hate it when lease companies do that but it's not the first time it's happened to me.

Car looks better than I thought the demo was that long ago, So Happy Days :zee:

  5. Interesting, Hopefully get my car this month and anything less than 53242 and they better update it FOC, let alone a discount.

New car finally arrived and it shipped with 53242 already in which is excellent news, also the NAV firmware was VC03101D from the factory, so will leave it all be and see how it behaves. Connected up with WIFI and that seems to be working for traffic etc.

  6. Lease company confirmed yesterday my delivery date has gone back from w/c 14th July, to estimated 29th July at the dealers. that means almost 20wks/5mths from order, not happy :megaangry: .

I've been waiting forever too, and thought I would check on my delivery date with the lease company again.

Slightly better news in my case though, my stock date has been brought forward a week to 23rd June. May get it before July after all :driving:

And on a plus note the dealer is quite local so can save a few days picking it up myself :D

  7. Aso, Blisteringblue - that's a helluva wait!! Mine was a 10 week delivery! You poor sod :<

Lol, cheers, to be fair it wasn't Lexus's fault, it was that horrendous moment when I was told my current car was on a 40 month lease rather than the normal 36 month. Toys out the pram might be a slight understatement :innocent:

So counting down big style ....

  8. What file format is your USB Stick? I think it will have to be Fat32 to be recognised.

This is from the USB section of the manual:

    Compatible device formats
The following device format can be used:
    • USB communication format: USB2.0 FS (480 Mbps)
    • File system format: FAT16/32 (Windows)
    • Correspondence class: Mass storage class
MP3, WMA and AAC files written to a device with any format other than
those listed above may not play correctly, and their file names and folder
names may not be displayed correctly.
Items related to standards and limitations are as follows:
    • Maximum directory hierarchy: 8 levels
    • Maximum number of folders in a device: 3000 (including the root)
    • Maximum number of files in a device: 9999
    • Maximum number of files per folder: 255
 MP3, WMA and AAC files
MP3 (MPEG Audio LAYER 3) is a standard audio compression format.
Files can be compressed to approximately 1/10 of their original size using MP3
    compression.
WMA (Windows Media Audio) is a Microsoft audio compression format. This
format compresses audio data to a size smaller than that of the MP3 format.
AAC is short for Advanced Audio Coding and refers to an audio compression
technology standard used with MPEG2 and MPEG4.
MP3, WMA and AAC file and media/formats compatibility are limited.
     MP3 file compatibility
    • Compatible standards
    MP3 (MPEG1 AUDIO LAYERIII, MPEG2 AUDIO LAYERIII)
    • Compatible sampling frequencies
    MPEG1 AUDIO LAYERIII: 32, 44.1, 48 (kHz)
    MPEG2 AUDIO LAYERIII: 16, 22.05, 24 (kHz)
    • Compatible bit rates (compatible with VBR)
    MPEG1 AUDIO LAYERIII: 32-320 (kbps)
    MPEG2 AUDIO LAYERIII: 8-160 (kbps)
    • Compatible channel modes: stereo, joint stereo, dual channel and monaural

  9. Ah, do I need to turn on something on the phone like personal hotspot because I was just trying to connect with just a phone bluetooth connection

Yes from the Iphone, Click Settings, Personal Hotspot, it will show you the wifi password (random characters so pretty safe) and a switch to turn it on and off.

When you switch it on you should see a wifi network the same name as your phone, connect to this and type in your wifi password and you should be off and running.

  10. Your re-routes without the wifi will be using old school Traffic Message Channel (TMC) contained in the FM Radio Signals of certain channels

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_message_channel

While these can be perfectly fine they are just not as up-to-date as the realtime traffic systems that the wifi version will subscribe to.

Until I get my Lexus I use TomTom with Live Traffic on my Iphone and this is brilliant, but I know they get their data from Vodafone where all their phone users actually supply the information they use.

I'm not sure where the Lexus portal gets it from but they will subscribe to a source like that? Most also seem to carry the Highways Agency feeds too, but these aren't brilliant. Mobile phone based data seems to be the best.

Going back to a time before Smartphones, I used to run TomTom on a PDA and its first ever traffic service (it was quite dire though) it used to Bluetooth to an old PAYG phone I left in the car. When I did this a £10 top-up used to last around 6 months, and this was driving 35k a year with updates every 15 mins. But again this was before "data bundles" and 3G signals it was good old GPRS.

Personally I will just use the hotspot service on my Iphone, it's easy enough to switch on and off. I'll probably just leave on all the time if the Battery drain is not massive, they security key is never going to be hacked.

  11. Afraid you will be stuck with just the Iphone as the satnav. I've used it for a few years and was all set to carry on in the Lexus until the offer of the free satnav came. I certainly wouldn't pay 2k for it but took it for free.

Non Nav cars are equipped with mirrorlink, but apple never subscribed. It was a consortium of mainly Sony, Android and older Nokia's. However as Steve44 says it is limited because you cannot use your infotainment while using mirrorlink.

    http://www.mirrorlink.com/

There is a video on youtube showing it working in a brand new IS 250
