  1. ECU engine temp sensor? if that's faulty., it would be running rich all day
  2. All season winter tyres, amazing the difference they make.
  3. Nope, can't do it, taking it with me when I move house. It's arguably the best designed and implemented V8 on the planet, and I get to drive it. Keeper.
  4. I added up the annual cost of Tax, Insurance, and MOT's for all 5 vehicles, that was a bit sobering...but still resistant to selling the LS
  5. Oh dear, I have the same problem, I have a camper van, a Mazda MX5 and a Chrysler Voyager (sorry, diesel but running a tuning box to help efficiency, and I need the carrying space) I no longer need a car for work, so the LS400 mk4 is logically not required (The motorbike I don't mind selling, the MX5 is way more fun) But I find I am having difficulty persuading myself to sell it......
  6. My old Mk3 stereo used to cut out going over bumps in cold weather, really!, If I recall correctly, there was some mention of it being down to the stereo mute control, and a bad connection under the back seat
  7. I did that too, with a cork add-on, worked for a week, then light came on, now light is off, not asking why...
  8. Brilliant stuff, so that fuse feeds the OBD connector, but when I unplug it , something beeps a complaint, so it does other stuff too, or its shorted to something. I will chase this IG1 connector
  9. I usually do, but not at the moment, and the cig lighters are wired to be on with ign. I do have a Parrot hands-free kit, wired into the amp under the seat
  10. That's such a good question I went out and double checked, but no, nothing connected. I do have LPG, I wonder if that's got anything to do with it. Checked again this morning and the drain is only 80ma, still a bit high
  11. Seems like I got the basics in the title, after a weeks holiday I came back to a flat battery, it is 4 years old, so perhaps past its best, but I investigated and there is a 140ma drain with the car locked and alarmed, and left for 20 minutes with the bonnet lock closed with a screwdriver, but the bonnet up. Pulling fuses makes no difference except the ODB fuse, which drops the drain to a more reasonable 50ma. I also get a few beeps from somewhere in the engine compartment when I pull this fuse. So what is on the other end of the OBD fuse? I assume an OBD cpu, I will start looking this up, but anyone who has been here before, I'd be glad of any assistance
  12. Does seem too much of a coincidence, but 16 year old fuses sometimes die of old age, too
  13. The LS400 Mk4 is arguably the most reliable and best engineered car on the planet. Heavy on fuel if used for short runs about town, but if you do some motorway driving- at which it excels- it evens out a bit. I have always held out for LPG converted ones but the cars are getting a bit rarer now so bit of a long shot these days. If you have found a good one (Cam belt done recently?) I'd get it and maybe take the hit for an LPG conversion after you fall in love with it.
  14. Is THAT what that switch does! Been wondering about that for 3 years. thank you!
  15. Perhaps the collective noun could be a Luxury of Lexi
  16. Seems a bit drastic, just to get some rust killer in place....
  17. Would this be suitable? http://www.amazon.com/Keymaker-Programmer-Support-CAN-BUS-Protocols/dp/B00DJ2LYF6/ref=pd_sim_e_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1X19THGV66W548HN54BQ
  18. Has anyone used aftermarket parking sensors on an LS? I'm sure there was a there's a mesage on here somewhere, they can be fitted without removing the bumper with a bit of careful wire feeding
  19. I was wondering if it was the same air suspension, it is an earlier car and I'm hoping it's a bit more rugged than the 430 setup. Wasn't aware of the trans. cooler in the radiator, good to know. It's a beast. walked past a newer Landcruiser today, massive.
  20. I looked at that, it's actually a tad shorter than a LS400, but 400mm wider. Subjectively its big, apparently! The LS wasn't too happy in city centre car parks, some of them are ridiculously tight. Not places I have to go very often, thankfully
  21. Ouch, this one has LPG, but I get an average of 21 out of the LS400 on LPG. But i'll take that as a yes vote re. driving experience
  22. Cheers Tulpen, just the sort of info I was after. I guess if I like my motorway cruising I should stick with the car designed for it, rather than something that can go up mountains... But it does look cool
  23. A Lexus LX470 has caught my eye, it's the Lexus version of the Landcruiser, with a 4.7 engine, I'm wondering how it compares with a LX400 Mk4 for quietness, cruising. The higher driving position would be nice, but before I drive rather a long way to see it, I was wondering if anyone here has experience of one .
  24. Actually it's the inlet manifold that has to come off to reach the starter, but that's as much effort as taking the head of a normal engine! even when you can see the starter its a nightmare to get out, but as has been said, with an impact wrench, there's no need to jam the crank anyway. Iv'e shifted a few nuts by applying torque with a spanner and tapping away patiently with a hammer. (Not suggesting you try that, but the principles the same with an impact wrench, just a lot quicker)
