Hi everyone Just had my wife's Jan 2006 RX400h back from 100k mile service and MOT. I was aware of coolant seepage issue so we decided to change the cambelt, water pump, tensioners, hydraulic pretensioners, radiator, coolant, oil and filter. I ordered the Aisin kit including water pump from Rockautos, which was just under £200 including postage and duty, Koyo radiator just under £100 and Toyota super long life pink coolant 10 L which Toyota Coventry supplied for £72 (10% discount). My trusted indy who also services our LS400 did everything including the MOT for £422 including 3 light bulbs. Overall I feel the engine is quieter and pulling better (pulling might be due to ecu reset). All in all under £800 which I think is good value. Tarun

Nexen tyres
WarwickT replied to Cotswold Pete's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Nice ones Pete. I almost went for them about a year ago, but then had Fulda Ecocontrol HP 225 60 R16 98V as they were slightly cheaper at the time, paid 320 GBP for all four of them including fitting and have been very happy with them, very quiet and great mpg. The tyres fitted before were barely road legal, so I don't have anything to compare with. Tarun -
Hi Anthony, I ordered my key from this Jim Mann via Ebay. His email address is telecommann@hotmail.com. If you send him a good pictures of both sides of the key, he will cut one and send it to you. It's good quality key, cost me around 13 gbp about a year ago, and I was able to programme it by the break pedal and door mechanism. Hope this helps. Tarun

Hi everyone That time of the year, I've has my LS400 for about a year now, have done almost 10,000 miles. Enjoyed every single one of them. The car has been completely trouble free. Apart from the major service which included timing belt, tensioners, coolant, spark plugs, water pump, battery, a/c, air filter, cabin filter, break pads, new wiper blades new tyres when I first bought it, I've had the oil and filter changed once more. No other costs incurred. Booked it for an MOT on 25th Feb, it passed with one advisory "nearside front Suspension arm ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt". Is this something I need to worry about? Thanks for your advice. Tarun

Engine Oil

I have used Fuchs Titan GT1 proflex 5w30 fully synthetic oil and Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG 5w30 fully synthetic oil alternatively. Been quite satisfied with them. Has anyone had any experience with Millers XF longlife ECO 5w30 or EE Longlife 5w30 fully synthetic oils? Tarun -
Hi All I had a lot of work done on my Irish import in May this year from JGS Autos in Redditch - a very well known and highly rated indy in the area. Sourced all the parts myself, the guys there - Jason and Mark, the main mechanics and Wayne - the receptionist are very friendly and professional. Labour rates are 45 plus vat. They look after my LS 400, RX 400h and Honda civic, never had any complaints. I had all the work done that I mentioned in the following post by them and payed under £500 in labour, which I think is good value http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/100821-mega-service-and-mpg/?view=getnewpost Can recommend them without any concerns. btw I am using Akebono ceramic pads that I ordered via Rockauto along with the timing belt, water pump, tensioners and spark plugs. Very happy with those break pads Tarun

Hi all My LS400 has required a lot of TLC so far, but the results are turning out to be great. So far, I have changed all four tyres, new break pads all around, DENSO Iridium spark plugs, Aisin water pump, Mitsuboshi timing belt, fan belt, NTN hydraulic pre-tensioner and bearings, K&N air filter, ShellUltra Helix ECT 5w-30 oil, Toyota OEM oil filter, Toyota OEM antifreeze/coolant, Toyota OEM break fluid. also discovered that A/C compressor wasn't working, luckily found one at Ebay removed from a Mark 4 which had done only 32k miles and got it done along with the timing belt, Yuasa 335 battery 95aH, and got my local carper shop to cut and whip new mats plus 4 wheel Hunter alignment by Alineyourcar in Dudley. Forgot to add engine hood struts, changed them too. As expected, I can feel the difference. Just came back from a 1307 mile trip to Liore Valley. The car used petrol worth £197.80, averaged 32 mpg with air-conditioning on all the time as temperatures were 30 deg plus. On the way back home, I got 513 miles from a single tank of fuel with 32 miles range to spare. We travel to Europe by car 2-3 times a year, and this has been our most comfortable and enjoyable trip so far. I want to thank everyone on this forum for their advice and contributions, saved me a lot of money and guided me in the right direction. Tarun

Sorry to resurrect an old post, I am looking for a new battery for my LS400 shortlisted these 3: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335-Hankook-Car-Van-Battery-Sealed-Calcium-12V-85Ah-680CCA-/251847183644?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aa3430d1c http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VARTA-BLUE-Car-Battery-G7-335-95Ah-830CCA-/281207020997?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item41793e9dc5 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Lexus_LS_4.0_1996/p/accessories-car-batteries/car-batteries/popular-car-battery/335-car-batteries/?444773357&0&cc5_1013 Just wanted some advice if anyone has had any experience with any of these. Will also call my local dealer tomorrow for a quote. Thanks in advance. Tarun

I also bought a kit from Rock Auto recently, but mine came with Mitsboshi timing belt and Aisin water pump who I believe are OEM suppliers to Toyota. Had to buy the NTN tensioner separately. Here is the link: https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=3290529&cc=1363564&jnid=404&jpid=17 Also bought 8 Denso Iridium spark plugs, just under £4 each, Bonnett Struts £15 each (both prices before vat) in the same shipment. But this is not a job I can not do myself. any recommendations for specialists around Midlands would be appreciated. Tarun

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone has fitted 235/60/16 tyres instead of the usual 225/60/16 on the oem alloys? What difference will they make to the ride/mpg? Thanks in advance. Tarun
