  1. You have not bought chips lately Steve...........they`ve risen from a tanner to over one pound!! Regards John
  2. Phil, surely you realise that with the X5, the fuel gauge is faster than the clock ? Regards John
  3. Roy, "Not heard of that AC issue affecting UK cars, nor any owners of RX's over the last year reporting it. Please in future could you post a link to other websites instead of copying the material verbatim, you could get this site in trouble otherwise! " Noted Chris. Only trying to help. Regards John
  4. WATCH out for Now lacks low-range gears and has only limited off road ability. No 7 seat option in UK. Tyres lower profile on 18" wheels instead of 16" wheels and much less chunky than before, so not as good over potholes, road humps or kerbs. Apparently the front tyres wear rapidly giving only about 10,000 miles and cost £400 to replace. 21mpg not as good as the old model either. Have been some problems with the active air suspension. Replaced by more efficient RX350 in 2006. Sudden battery draindowns can be caused by the connection between the bulkhead switch and the air conditioning. With those made in Taiwan, when the ignition key is removed it is possible that the air conditioning does not disconnect (there is no visible/audible indication of this)- and the battery can be drained within 3/4's of an hour. You must ensure that the air conditioning is separately switched off before you turn off the ignition or the failure could recur. Best to replace the Taiwan-made connection with its German made counterpart." Damp luggage area can be due to water ingress via the rear light seals. 15-3-2011: Rear parking brake mechanism prone to seizing up and can cost a lot of time at high Lexus labour rates to fix. One reader had to spend £718, including 3.7 hours of labour at £115 per hour + VAT. 1-1-2012: Rear quarterlight trim prone to falling off. Replacement costs £170 because trim and quaterlight glass can only be bought together. Recalls December 2004: 5,937 cars recalled because oxidation can affect brake light switch. Applies only to cars built before July 2004. 20-10-2010: Lexus launched two voluntary recalls in the UK, affecting its IS, GS and RX models. It is working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to contact registered owners and keepers by letter to advise them of the procedure for taking their vehicle to a Lexus Centre or an Official Lexus Service Outlet for the necessary repair work to be done. The first recall concerns the brake master cylinder fitted to IS, GS and RX models built between February 2003 and November 2005. Lexus is aware that the seal between the brake master cylinder and the brake booster may turn in its seat, causing brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. In the very unlikely event that this happens, the driver will be alerted to the problem by the low brake fluid warning light. The brakes will continue to function normally for a significant time - over 200 miles of regular driving. Lexus knows of no accidents caused by this issue. The repair involves the replacement of a small seal and a check for any fluid contamination in the brake booster. If any contamination is found, the brake booster will be replaced. The job will take approximately two hours to complete, at no cost to the customer. Approximately 15,400 UK registered vehicles are affected by this recall. 9-11-2011: Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. (TMS), today announced that it will conduct a voluntary safety recall involving approximately 283,200 Toyota and 137,000 Lexus vehicles to replace the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine. There is a possibility that the outer ring of the crankshaft pulley may become misaligned with the inner ring, causing noise and/or illumination of the discharge warning light. If this condition is not corrected, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley and the driver may notice a sudden increase in steering effort. There are no reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition. Toyota is currently working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts have been produced in sufficient quantities, Toyota will send an owner notification by first class mail advising owners to make an appointment with an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer to have the crankshaft pulley inspected and if necessary, replaced at no charge. The owner notifications will be mailed by first class mail beginning in January, 2012. In the meantime, if an abnormal noise is heard coming from the engine compartment, the owner is asked to make an appointment with any Toyota or Lexus dealer to have the vehicle inspected for this condition. 5. Prestine (Pgèhten in camunian dialect) is a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is situated in the Val Camonica Region. Pristine is an immaculate condition Phil! Good hunting. Regards John
  6. You leave it far too long Malc. It must have been really high and unmanageable. I normally cut mine by Easter!! Regards John
  7. Welcome to the club Paul and glad you are settling in nicely. 101,000 TROUBLE FREE MILES FROM ANY RANGE ROVER has to be as rare as hen`s teeth! Regards John
  8. And I believe it to be contrary to the Highway Code! So do not do it. Regards John
  9. Very interesting, but I think that the Honest John website contains a wider range of real world consumption figures Geoff. Brim to brim calculations are the ones to be used for such calculations, not the occasional and often inaccurate on board computer ones used by many private motorists. Regards John
  10. I believe that H.M.R.C will take the view that anyone who buys and sells vehicles for a profit will be a Trader. It would be wise to check this out with them or an Accountant as anything warranted or implied that is contrary to H.M.R.C view will not "hold water." Regards John
  11. I`ll bet that someone on the Toyota Yaris Forum can tell you Bluey! Regards John

  13. Just trying to help Chris. Thinking outside of the box, so to speak! Regards John
  14. Gavin, I understand that the GS shares much of its mechanicals with the Toyota Camry, so is that "FOOD FOR THOUGHT?" Regards John
  15. Many thanks Michael. Can`t say I am delighted to be back as weather is not a patch on what I have left behind! But I cannot live in Spain all year! GS 450h has been perfect since the minor mishap. Lexus Chester suggested that it might (the popping noise) have been a faulty amplifier and asked me to contact them again should it recur. Regards John
  16. This is my view too Paul. The Dealer is responsible and will be pleased to please you in order to make the sale. Regards John
  17. Just arrived back in UK after 74 days away in Spain. 450h started first time after being fed by a solar powered charger. Took it out yesterday for short drive and everything was fine. Today I motored from Wirral to Toddington and on the M6 I heard approx 10 "pops" which sounded just like bubblewrap popping. I stopped and checked eveything but could find nothing wrong, so I proceeded on my journey. I THEN NOTICED THAT AIR CON HAD STOPPED WORKING AS HAD ALL AUDIO SOUNDS INC SAT NAV. I phoned Lexus Milton Keynes from my destination and they asked me to take the car to them for examination. After lunch I set out to take the car to them and noticed that all was working again! Seems that everything had been re-set. Any ideas anyone? Regards John
  18. Jag, I would suggest you take legal advice immediately and seek to reject the vehicle under the S.O G Act while you are still within the 6 month Statutory Period. The model has been a source of discomfort for Lexus and in my view is not worthy of the Lexus badge. Regards John
  19. I saw a Left Hand Drive Gold GS 400 (Mark 2?) in Torre del Mar this morning on Spanish plates. I do not think that the GS400 was imported to UK. Regards John
  20. And I am currently in Spain Mike, having driven down (albeit in the Merc) and arrived on 8th Sept. Not seen an Ls either but have seen the occasional RX. I used to see an immaculate UK Reg Light Green LS with Goldish trims around Velez Malaga. I start back on Friday 13th November and will maintain my watch! With apologies to Mike Bluesman!!! Regards John You can go off people John. You enjoy every moment of it cause this life ain't a rehearsal. Safe journeys. Mike. Thanks Mike. I certainly did not mean to cause offence to anyone. I worked for 42 years to buy this ticket to anywhere and I have been told many times that it is a one way ticket and I must therefore look out of the windows as much as I can. I must smell the flowers and feel the breeze and give my experiences freely. As do you and the other Members of this wonderful Forum. And when I get home, there is a GS450h waiting to be reunited with me (Solar powered charger permitting!) Regards John

  22. That`s an awful lot to pay Paul. Why, it`s more than their coffee, cakes and car washes added together ! Regards John
  23. I`m down in Eastbourne during the weekend of 19-22 November and will wave to you Scribe and all LS motors, just like I (we) all did when we had VW Beetles and AA/RAC badges ! Regards John
  24. His fuel consumption will drop pleasurably if he did. Might not be a bad idea? Reduced speed, reduced wind resistance. reduced stress (Graham is a considerate driver?). And you can listen to your favourite music in a relaxed and calm atmosphere! Regards John
