  1. For "indecisive fool" read "careful consideration by a wise man" Mike ? I bought a Mercedes E class in 2005 with 60,000 miles on the clock.Full Servcie History, One Owner. I still have it.It`s done 213,000 miles, still has a full service history (not MB !), NO RUST BUT A FEW SCRATCHES and a near perfect interior. Would I sell it ? Not a chance. I bought the Lexus 3 years ago with 17,000 miles on the clock and it now has 42,000.No rust, no scratches, perfect interior and a full (Lexus) service history.. Will I sell it? Not a chance. My point is that if one is keen enough to retain and cherish a vehicle it will usually reward its owner with faithfull servcie. If you can trace such a cared for vehicle it should continue to reward its new owner, so long as it remains cared for. Good luck and good hunting. Regards John
  2. Your second para says it all Anthony. Buy the lowest, high mileage, one owner with impeccable service record vehicle you can find and save yourself four grand !! Regards John
  3. Do please let us know what you (or the wife ?) decide Mike. :) Regards John
  4. My view too Mike. It is one of the most,if not the most reliable car of its time. You`ve had it from new. It has not let you down. It has a full service history. You know its idyosyncrasies. Keep it and take it past 100,000 and be very proud. A no brainer me thinks ! Regards John
  5. "Was the driver old so while listening loudly to Ken Bruce on Radio 2, not able to hear the sensors on his Merc. or Was he young, and listening to Kerrang music even louder and would have needed an atomic bomb going off to notice anything." or did he own up becuse he saw that you saw the incident ? At least he offered to pay, so all you have to do now is hope that he pays up.......:) Seriously, an incident you could have done without, but it should have a happy outcome. Regards John
  6. Why not take out a Lexus Servcie Plan and pay it monthly Dennis? Regards John
  7. Many thanks John.Very informative. If you are only half right then it would suggestt hat the "shocks" are not fit for purpose and should be replaced under Warranty without further question. Regards John
  8. Well said Mr Mister, I could not have expressed it any better, except to say that as one grows older and more experienced one`s attitudes, requirements and priorities do change. Regards John
  9. That happens so many times Derkins. Warranties (many, but not all,) are often not worth the paper they are written on. Car buyers often forget or are ignorant of, the Stautory Warranty which exists when buying a used car.It is the Sellers (Dealer) resonsbibility to correct matters at his expense if the problems appears within the first 6 months of purchase. It is free. A good Indy however, is worth his weight in gold and will often apply preventive maintenance, so as to minimise potential problems. Make a point of reading on a regular basis "honestjohn.co.uk" and you will realise how fortunate we are to drive a Lexus , which although not infallible, goes wrong far less often than other makes of car. Oh, and welcome to the Club! Regards John
  10. Try Glyn Jones Garage Toyota and Lexus Indy Address: 4, Leighton Business Park, Chester Rd, Heswall, Wirral CH60 3RZ Phone: 0151 342 9944 And do let us know how you get on Regards John
  11. Harry, Given that you bought the car from a car dealer you are covered by a Statutory Warranty for the first 6 months of your ownership. The Statutory Warranty makes the dealer responsible for repairing at his expense any non trivial problem which arises. You do not have to prove that the problem existed at the time or was subsequent to your accepting ownership. Such problems as occur are deemed to have been existing or were in the process of existing at the point of sale. Your basic warranty is an irrelevance and should not have been sold to you. It is simply a devcie that dealers use to try to avoid their Satutory Responsibilities The Dealer will be aware of his responsibilities, but you should treat him with respect and the utmost politeness and he will probably either authorise Lexus Chester to effect the repairs for which he will be responsibile for payment, or offer you your money back in return for the car. If you need further advice you can contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau or email Honest John at honestjohn.co.uk. Take a look at this first http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/keywords/?word=used++cars Good luck and do not despair. Regards John
  12. Harry, please remember that it is the dealer you bought from who is required to fix the problem(s), NOT Lexus. If the supplying dealer authorises Lexus to fix, then that`s fine, but do not become involved yourself in trying to effect/arrange the fix. Regards John
  13. Harry, If you bought the car from a dealer just two months ago, then it is his Statutory Responsibility to correct such problems at his expense. Do not allow anyone to attempt to repair or replace anything until you have contacted the dealer and reminded him of his responsibilities and received a response.Do keep us all informed and good luck.. Regards John
  14. Hi Mark, Sorry to learn of your problems. Some suggestions for your consideration......... 1.Check door and window seals on all doors. 2. What make of tyres do you now have on front? 3. and on rear? 4. consider changing tyres..back to front and front to back Regards John
  15. You will not be able to use those number plates for driving on the continent Keiron. You will have to affix a GB plate. Regards John
  16. When you first take ownership. Regards John
  17. I was told that moving it a short distance does not allow the ignition sequence to be completed. The accelerator then needs to be floored when starting thereafter. The remedies are; 1. Do not move it a short distance, or 2. Leave the engine running for a good 30 seconds so as to allow the sequence to be concluded. Regards John
  18. "Anyone if there is an Aux connection available in the 10 plate ?" Mine has both USB and Aux. Treat the car with the utmost respect as it is potentially a licence taker. Regards John
  19. Hi Keiron, Good to hear from you. Look at the GS450H Third generation too. I bought mine 3 years ago, with 17,000 miles on the clock for £20k. There are still a good number of these around at Lexus dealers. I bought a Service Package for £38 per month and have had 3 services including the big 60,000 and have not to pay anything out for consumables in 24,000 miles. I got 12 months warranty with the car and then took out a Lexus extended warranty for 2 years which I have just renewed. I have not had to use the warranty. My overall mpg works out at 35 mpg .The range of consumption is 28-39 (brim to brim) depending upon driving style and the performance is exceptional. I kept my 13 year old E class diesel estate as it was/is worth a lot more to me than others were prepared to pay. An independent Toyota garage will service the consumable items for you at much less than Lexus will charge . Hope this helps. Regards John
  20. Been on the Autobanh Richy four times in my GS450H. If you like driving at those speeds for any length of time, then you are probably in the wrong job.. Autobahn crashes at those speeds are usually fatal for all those involved. Regards John
  21. Why would anyone wish to drive at speeds beyond, or at 124 mph? A jet liner takes off at approx 150mph. Regards John
  22. Is it not basically a Toyota C -HR and surely a production car cannot have such an interior ? Even Dan Dare could not have driven that distracting interior ! :) Regards John
  23. Eric Morecambe would have interpreted that as " best eaten before twenty one minutes past eight " :) Regards John
