My understanding Kieron is that there are Summer Tyres which are best used when the temperature is above freezing and Winter tyres which are best and most effective when temperatures are below-7 and then there are All Season Tyres which can be used all year round and best used down to -6 and in winter rains and winter snows. It is not necessary to change from All Season Tyres in the Summer months, but my Summer Kuhmo Tyres had a good deal of tread and I did not just want to throw them away. Sorry if this sounds confusing. Regards John

I have just fitted 4 Kumho All Season Tyres and the car is just as quiet (to me) as it was when I had the Summer Kumho`s on. Lexus Chester have retained my Summer tyres and will refit them for me in the Spring. They will then again retain the All Season Tyres and refit them for me in late Autumn in 2017. Regards John

Hybrid - engine stop/start - Engine life

Nemesis, Mine is a Generation 3 GS 450h and the Energy Monitor Display shows that the engine is not contributing anything at all whenever I lift my foot off the accelerator. In these circumstances it shows that it is the elecric motor that is powering the car. Regards John -

Honest John`s advice is do not mix.Put cross climates on all four wheels. Regards John -
"Maybe that's the fundamental problem with any needed repairs, the cost to do so on older cars does often outweigh the actual real value and the cars just never get fixed, and then end up scrapped." I think that the comment above from Malc represents a common view, but it is not the view I and I believe others take. I have a 14 year old MERCEDES which has covered 215,000 miles. It is in good condition mechanically and bodily and according to the market is worth nothing much at all. To replace it on a like for like basis would cost in the region of £35,000. The real value to me therefore is the cost of replacement, which means that I can spend a good deal on necessary repairs to maintain it in its current condition and I would not therefore want to write it off sooner than what is necessary for me. Of course it can be written off by an Insurance Company should I choose to make a claim or more likely should some other road user collide with me, but my fundamental point is that its value depends upon one`s perspective. Regards John

I think that Malc is right in what he says. Do check the V5 to ensure that the previous owner was indeed the person who sold you the car Rebecca. If it doesn`t tally and you still have the car, then if you cannot part exchange it promptly for say, an IS 250 AUTO, then follow the advice given by Linas. Good luck. Regards John

Many thanks Newbie for the information. I have not used them myself, but noticed that another Forum member had and I was not aware of their existence locally. What Warranty were you given by them and did they honour it? Was your replacement s/s? exhaust provided by them or did you go elsewhere? Regards John

I`ve not noticed this happening John .In fact I cannot remember the last time I had to apply full lock going forward or in reverse ! If Lexus cannot replicate the problem you are clearly experiencing, then it seems to me that they are not doing their job properly. I would ask them to test again with you driving !! Regards John

I made a point yesterday of dropping in on this chap yesterday afternoon to see what he has to offer given that he is midway between Lexus Chester and Lexus Liverpool. Glyn Jones is his name and he operates from an individual garage behind the big car sales shrowroom (Wright/Heathland) on the Chester Road in Heswall. He tells me that he is an ex Lexus man and runs a Toyota Hilux and services all makes of vehicles. He had a BMW being serviced on his ramp at the time of my visit and he has been in business for about 8 years if my old memory serves me correctly. I was particularly interested in having him quote for a hard wire installation of a dash camera in my GS Hybrid and for the provision of 4 All Season tyres so that I could compare with the quotes provided to me by one of the Official Lexus Dealers locally. The hard wire installation quote was one third of the Lexus price and he can do it next week. I am still waiting to hear from Lexus re the tyres. They promised to contact me but have failed to do so.(not the first time they have failed to phone back and very disappointing given Lexus` highly publicised customer ratings).Mercedes not phoning back is a given ,but Lexus not phoning back suggests that Standards of Performance need reviewing ! Glyn phoned me back that afternoon re the tyres! I am not associated in any way with this Indie, but thought it might be helpful for members (IN THE LOCAL AREA) to be aware that there is an Indie who might be able to help them ( at a competitive rate) with tasks needing to be undertaken on their vehicles which are no longer under Official Lexus Warranty. His contact details are; Glyn Jones Unit4 Leighton Estates Chester Road, Heswall CH60 3RZ TEL;0151 342 9944 or 07545846762.
