  1. An excellent decision to take out the Extended Warranty. Do read the Terms and Conditions as the deal offers a lot which could be useful if you are out in your Q3 and it breaks down (sorry!). By the way, nobody paid twice. Lexus received it twice through the fault of the previous owner. It would have been good to know why he sold the Lexus and did not buy another one and not forgo the balance of the Warranty.
  2. Welcome to L.O.C. James. Why buy a Lexus ? Car does not look tatty. How many miles on clock? Has the Handbook been used ? We look forward to your contributions.
  3. If it is from a Lexus Dealer, I`d think that £5500/6000 would be the max I`d pay If not, Steve`s comments above are not to be ignored and I would offer £4500/4750. Bear in mind that a Motor Trader is required by Law to be responsible for correcting and paying for significant problems should they arise within 6 months of purchase. Please keep us all informed of what you do.
  4. A wonderful post James. Having followed Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Shuttle programmes and U2, then SR71 Blackbird too, I found I was riveted to my seat. Many thanks.
  5. Just watch Lexus used car prices spring forward. Demand for demonstrably reliable cars with Extended Warranty possibilities will zoom. And therein lie possibilities for existing and new Lexus Indies !
  6. In addition to those mentioned by John, above Motorline Group also has 4 other Lexus Dealerships outside of Kent. I`ve not witnessed any plaudits for them, but they took a bit of stick about 9 months or so when they introduced an admin charge on prospective purchases I think it was. Cardiff was given a sort of thumbs up recently by Bart who bought an RX from them.
  7. Welcome Brent to L.O.C. Did you give any consideration to other Hybrid vehicles or perhaps Phevs ? It will be helpful if you can tell us why you really left Audi. Don`t they claim to be as frugal as Lexus on some of their models? Are they expensive to maintain, were they reliable, how good were their dealers, how good was their Customer Service etc ? Which Lexus Dealer did you use to buy the UX? I read one of your contributions to another thread earlier this morning and was really impressed at your ability to find and refer to and use the Handbook. You can teach some of us a lot ! Was this a necessary task with the Audi or were you always a sensible, structured and thoughtful person ? Anyway have 100 points for your enthusiasm and we look forward to more contributions from you, albeit after 10pm.
  8. Good helpful post Brent. Handbooks can be a very useful source of invaluable information.
  9. Sorry to have misled you Ray. I did read that, then forgot you bought from a Trader.
  10. Miserable so*s Ray. Did I miss something--what guidelines?
  11. Norman ,you have opened a whole world of discussion. It is important to identify your perspective on motoring, family life and politics! Remember matey, that you started this ! For example 1. I bought my Merc Diesel Estate when it was 6 months old, the last of the W210 series. It was a run out model with all of the items I desired as standard (REAL LEATHER, SAT NAV ETC). It has served me and the family well, trips to Uni, moving into student accommodation and flats, going to the Rubbish trip, family trips, continental travel..you get the picture. It is now 18 years old on 3 Jan and has covered 247,006 miles. Overall it has been brilliant and still gives more than 50mpg on runs. Internally it is still brand new with nothing having worn or faded. Externally it has suffered a few knocks and scrapes consistent with the use and mileage. Were I to buy a new one, it would cost £40K. But do I want to spend such a sum at my time of life? Not a chance. Was I bothered that as the years rolled by that my model was superseded by W211, W212 and W213 ? Not by any stretch. I had bought the Mercedes for the long run. So I cared for it and it owes me nothing. Example 2. Six years ago I bought a 3rd Generation GS Lexus. I bought and still have until 2023 an Extended Warranty. It was and still is a quality motor car. Not quality as perceived in Audi, BMW and now, Mercedes, but quality in my eyes of reliability, economy from bumper to bumper, no rattles or squeaks and build. I bought a 10 year Service Plan and I have not had to spend any money on the car other than normal consumables such as wipers, not covered by the Service Plan. I haven`t even had to buy a bulb and my local Lexus people are such nice people to deal with. My car has been superseded by the Gen4 and lately by the ES. Do I feel the need to change? Not a chance. These are two examples of me keeping my cars and ignoring Mr Smith`s new xx next door, or taking advantage of some supposedly fabulous offer from a motor manufacturer. I was able to keep these cars because I had a long term objective in mind at the outset. I bought quality that could serve me well and I looked after both of them. On the other hand my advice to people is if you really, really, really want it and you can afford it and you will not upset anyone or anything by doing it, then go ahead. I`m sorry for taking so long say what I would do, but you now have my TWO answers. Good luck.
  12. Do you mean 12v auxiliary battery, rather than traction battery Bren ?
  13. Have 100 points Paul for being (so far) today`s best Handbook Student !
  14. It is a good question. Also why do Lexus offer 10 year and 140,000 mile warranties and not Toyota ? Who would want to work in a Marketing Dept of a Motor Manufacturer ?
  15. Agree with all you say Rus. It seems to me that currently the new Toyota Corolla Hybrid is the one to go for. Even the gentlemen of the Press seem to warm to it.
  16. Just read through this thread. Anyone know which Dealership could not satisfy John? Looks like this Forum gave him a shoulder to cry on and he never reciprocated. Somewhat mean of him, me thinks!
  17. Norman, What on Earth can be unwise about buying a new car which is demonstrably reliable, has a 5 year Warranty on its Hybrid system, a 3 year Warranty on the rest of the vehicle, a 15 year Warranty on the Hybrid Battery and the opportunity to purchase an Extended Warranty for the next 10 years or to 140,000 miles?
  18. Welcome Colin. She is a thing of beauty and my, my you have read the Handbook. You are going to be a great contributor. This seems to be your first Lexus as you do not claim to have experienced Lexus qualities of which reliability is but one.
  19. Performance Direct----nearly 10,000 reviews. https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/performancedirect.co.uk
  20. "I will do some research / reading about the caliper (though not in the handbook John!) and pins. " Educating oneself is important my friend and often leads one to being in a minority. But, the minority are usually the best informed. You S David, have graduated to being top of the class in no time at all!
  21. If it was indeed excessive Steve, it was the Lighthouse keeper at Muckle Flugger !
  22. Do a search on the Forum or ask Colin Barber as I`m sure I have read recently that it is not necessary to buy new and they can be nursed very successfully.
