  1. very nice car. Funnily enough I sat in traffic next to a vrx8 earlier this week. We nodded at each other in that way that said "if only the road was clear coz this could be fun"
  2. I use a tom tom as frankly the in car sat nav is awful! in that it doesn't do full postcodes nor have a reliable traffic update and lastly, but importantly in an isf, speed camera alerts. Not that I ever speed you know!
  3. new F models perhaps meaning a few owners are trading up?
  4. why an F? Well its not an audi or bmw was a key point for me. Rare indeed. Rad, not four so it'll be much more fun to drive imo. Getting a bit of slip at the back and balancing it is a wonderful feeling. Not clarkson drifting, just a touch of yaw to get the car out of the corner. its not a coincidence that all supercars now how paddle shift. The isf was one of the leaders at this sort of pay grade. they are not immune to going wrong because nothing is but on the whole they are solid. Get one. You'll love it.
  5. the indi garage mentioned above has checked with Lexus on the qt and has no concerns about quality of care provided to date. They know the man who serviced the car at Lexus Sidcup.they have also swapped out 6 of the plugs but I need to leave the car with them for the last two. Buggers to get at it seems. we were hoping that five thousand more miles would make it worse or give an error but not yet. as I say, must find time to drop it off again...
  6. about time for an update. Its still misfiring but its not any worse nor any better. Still no MIL. I've got used to it now. Must find time to book it in for the hard to get to plugs to be changed.
  7. 44. 41 when I got it... 24. Wow. I had a mini when I was 24!
  8. do track them if you can. If you're getting too much understeer book some tuition because that's, if I may be so bold, the drivers fault not the car. took mine to bedford and loved it. Ok my lotus is better at a track day simple because its half the weight but the lexus was fab. People liked seeing it too. stock exhaust mind so noise wasn't an issue. 102db is loud!
  9. Standard Bridgestones. I'm doing 10,000 a year and they are holding up fine. Breakaway is progressive on the occasions I get anywhere near their limit.
  10. I've got winters for, umm, the winter. If you use the f in the rain or heaven forbid very cold weather you'd be mad not to have proper winters in my humble opinion... Got mine off a chap on here as it happens. And of course my summer tyres last much longer as I'm only using them 8 months or so of the year
  11. Original mini, 975cc Mini cooper, again original shape, 1275cc - wonderful car that one Ford Puma RX8 230, ordered on line 6 months before they imported any to the UK. Another great car (and petrol and road tax were cheaper when I had it) Elise SC, which I still have ISF and the family Meriva which is changing to a new Jeep Cherokee this weekend as it happens. Dave
  12. My average since I had the car, 20,000 miles or so is 26. My track day had a tank average of 9 if I recall. I regularly see 30 on a motorway schelp to and from clients but also a lot less if I can find a good A or B road or some roundabouts. It's horrific in traffic but I try hard not to look. So about the same as a golf diesel then? Dave
  13. Update : bugger! I could easily replicate the fault for the garage. Sadly there are absolutely not fault logs, misfire counts or anything at all in the computer to indicate a problem. The car has NEVER misfired, not once, according to the logs which they say are very accurate and trustworthy. Tech one have been brilliant and have even called in a Lexus technician and tracked the service history of the car and that Lexus did indeed change all the spark plugs last year at the 6 years service. The lexus chap didnt believe the logs would be clear having felt the problem but checked them himself. They've changed the coil and lead on 6 of the plugs which is not that hard to do I'm told. Two are difficult to get to and they havent checked those as it's a big job and if they do those they might as well change all 8 spark plugs again, or perhaps change four and then the other four. They've done a smoke test on the inlet manifold and tested bits that Lexus changed under the recalls recently - the fuel rail I think they said - to be fair it was doing it before the service and recall work. We've concluded that it doesnt seem it's about to break down and the dropping MPG is probably just me enjoying the late summer sunshine and doing more A roads and less motorways. I'm going to drive it some more and we'll try again if it gets worse. Or if I can give them the car for a week with some notice they can change the plugs and coils, including the hard to get to ones. SO MY QUESTION IS, for those who know the ISF better than I do, do we know of anyone else who has had this, maybe in the US? Lastly, tech one havent charged me as they havent mended the car. Can't say fairer than that.
  14. Hopefully be able to get it to tech one on Tuesday this week. Its getting a little worse id say and mpg has dropped off so am trying not to use it too much.
  15. And one imagines the plugs fitted by Lexus just over a year ago will be out of warranty! I'll give tech one a call on Monday. Thanks everyone.
  16. Over the last 1,000 miles or so, so a few thanks of petrol, ive had a misfire under load. Its easy to recreate and especially noticeable if in manual mode in 8th at 55mph (lowest revs itll let it go before it shifts tk 7th). Part or full throttle and as it picks up a few more revs itll cough n splutter. It did it today off a roundabout at much higher revs which means its getting worse. No dash light yet. Ordinary branded unleaded in it from a variety of garages. I do a decent mileage so I don't think it was a bad tank of fuel which was my original thought. Will the ecu be logging anything I can get checked? Have fallen out with Lexus sidcup so does anyone know an independent close to Dartford? Or given the engine is so specialist should I go to Lexus anyway? Anyone close to me who wants to hear and feel the problem lemme know. Happy to take you out and ill have my rac card incas it becomes terminal!
  17. Really good to see you all and I'm still giggling at the mini burnout tyre marks left behind. I wont mention any names. was their 7 Fs in total, six at one time? Good work everyone. And chris. The rcf is fabulous.
  18. ...their rags aren't too manky! But if you want to avoid micro swirls I agree do it yourself is only way. However on a silver car with dozens of stone chips...
  19. Head into blue water. Then come back out. Follow signs for dover. A2. (not London). On the slip road back onto A2 is a place I use for mine.
  20. Sunny day. Who'd have thought it!
  21. Some pics of the trip http://1drv.ms/1M2RR85 With ear plugs the elise is fine. Lotus' reputation for comfort and handling remains true. WIthout earplugs the exhaust and general wind noise at 85mph (GPS) would be very tiresome to say the least! See you all in a bit! Dave
  22. dont get me wrong I love the car but I use it for work it's doing 10,000 miles a year and with a young lad at home and a business to run I just don't get the time to get the little bits fixed. I aim to be there as it's always good to talk to other car enthusiasts and more than one F in the same place in the UK has to be pretty rare. I'll remind myself how to upload some photos now!
  23. What's up with it mate? It just doesnt get the love and attention some of you give to yours! (That's reserved for my elise in which I've just had a wonderful trip to the Swiss Alps and back). The brakes are shot to bits, I've never kerbed wheels in my life but have done all of the Fs and the leather inside needs some TLC too. Oh and its got a rattle somewhere which lexus couldnt find last year and has got worse and worse. I hope they can find it next week when it's in for a service! Dave
