  1. Probably teaching your grandmother to suck eggs (which is the oddest phrase ever!), but have you made it crystal clear to FoS that this is a very rare car and that your insurer are treating like a normal one? Who are you with, we can look up the wording online no doubt and check what it says, You shouldnt have to buy extra insurance (gap) to cover what is supposed to be insured. Okay, they always haggle over a few quid but not a few thousand or 10%s of the car's value. NAME AND SHAME if it fails as I dont want to be insured with the same people. Earlier someone mentioned an exige; my elise is covered by a specialist insurer on an lotus scheme with track time included, so you know they know it's a hard car to value and that after 8 years its lost 30% not 75%. People do need to be careful with cheap insurance, or anything in life that's cheap. It's cheap for a reason. A friend found they had a £1,000 excess on water escape in the home whch is one of the most common causes of a claim, meaning it more or less wasnt insured. If they'd known, they would happily have paid more for a "proper" policy. Not saying OP has cheap insurance, but just be careful.
  2. what does gap pay? The difference between what you paid (rather than current value) and the insurers pay out? Okay I can see the value BUT in this case gap shouldn't be needed; the insurer is robbing the OP blind by not offering market value of a rare version of a mundane saloon. we have gap on our new jeep but mainly coz depreciation is awful ans second hand value laughably low compared to what we paid.
  3. just read my admiral policy. Definition is "cost of replacing YOUR (their bold) car with one of a similar condition, age, mileage". fos will rule in your favour in my opinion, assuming your wording is similar.
  4. the policy wording doesn't say"the average value of all is versions". Nor does it say the trade value. It should pay out a fair value. Fight your corner. They knew what they were insuring, took your money and now need to pay out theirs. d
  5. sorry, have a missed what the ombudsmen said about the value?
  6. wouldn't be without them on any of our cars. okay, last winger was so mild down south but who is to say this one will be? It's not a cost thing for me, its about being able to brake and turn on snow which on normal tyres is appalling. Until you've experienced who good they are when its icy or snowing, you won't appreciate them. also little bits of oversteer are easier which makes me smile.
  7. clicking is odd. Is it wheel rotation speed dependant? Have you, in a nice safe way, given it a bloody good stop or two. It might not help but it is fun.
  8. good work both of you. Did we ever hear of Mr ***** Who Doesn't Like Car Forums?
  9. its too big to go in my garage with the lotus! good write up, thanks. Go on, buy one. Move from rare to, err, what ever rarer than rare is
  10. lovely. Enjoy. Start looking for some winter tyres!
  11. no, they showed me other signs of replacement parts as they were date stamped. I'm sure it was good quality and cars get crashed all the time, I just chose not to buy it. The then owner denied all knowledge and I believed him as he was pretty miffed at losing the sale.
  12. I had an rac inspection on a black one three years ago and found it had been subject to a high quality front end repair. But as I didn't want to buy a crashed car, even if repaired well then I walked. repair wasn't on lexus database either. Had a private plate so can't tell you what it would be now, but was in Gillingham Kent.
  13. keep it. Drive time it was meant to be driven and enjoy cheap interest rates to survive the next 18months. This may or may not be sound financial advice!
  14. they will look for every mark esp on the wheels by all accounts. But get their offer on writing and take it to bmw. Ask them to match. If you're a cash buyer of your new car it's really easy to shop around as you could by it from bmw Aberdeen for example, if the price was right. but I'd say keep it m it's a much more unique and special car than any Bmw. And a new beemer will depreciate like a, well, new car. If I rcall you said you needed to be mindful of costs (as we all do) so swapping to a new car is illogical just from a total cost of ownership point of view.
  15. it's worth what people will pay I guess and the px is only a part of the deal of course. A poor px but a higher discount on the new car means it's better px than it sounds. What does webuyanycar say? That's a good barometer. Give http://m.targafloriocars.com/ a call who sold me mine. You never know what a good indi might offer. selling a three year old car is always a shock as that's the major depreciation over. It'll hold it's value now one assumes. 25k is however a joke. I paid 21 for a 5 year old one! good luck
  16. meets aside I've still only seen one....which as I've said before was the reason I got mine. I had a light bulb moment and went "rare. Fast. Want. Now."
  17. that's a cracking example about to go px. I waited a while to get mine, walked away from one which was tough. But worth the wait.
  18. doesn't look like it, sorry!
  19. for avoidance of doubt, they all have lsd. Just the early ones use the inside wheels brake, the new ones is a proper mechanical lsd. these days such electronic trickery is known as torque vectoring and Mclaren use it alot if I understand their set up, rather than a mechanical lsd. a friends v12 vantage even has separate calipers at the back for it, one assumes to have different pads for braking and torque v, thus avoiding overheating.
  20. my 08 is perfectly good ride wise as I do 10k a year and I can still walk okay! condition and history important obviously. I've only ever driven mine so can't comment. What I do know is it handles fine. It's not s lotus, but it's a v8 engines saloon which goes like stink and is very very rare. I've only ever seen one on the road outside of meets. That one was the one which made me buy mine! none of it will matter when you hear the second port open foe the first time and go "yeah this is the car for me"
  21. not sure why but I was dreading this failure at the recent 8year service, as I don't have the warranty. I just had this feeling mine would be leaking. I didn't get round to looking to see! But it wasn't. £500 on a £60k+ when new car, eight years old. You gotta accept that's going to happen from time to time. Like brakes and tyres....
  22. the Carlos saint gt4? Nice. I've always said id wrap mine if i got bored with boring silver! Three years, 30,000 miles later and I haven't got round to it. I've driven mine on track - i regularly track my Elise - and didn't notice it didn't have a mechanical lsd. From what I know you're more likely to notice the better ride in the new ones. My 08 rides like the suspension is solid. I still love it though. try and get the legendary lexus extended warranty at least initially until you know the car is sound. I did, then let it lapse. Fingers crossed that was prudent. have fun!
  23. mines good as gold on road and on track...
  24. you wait ages and two boot issues come along at once. I sorted mine too, 'twas indeed the button in the glove box
  25. what's your budget? There isn't a blue one auto trader by looks of it. With 200ish in the country in total, there is a very limited supply but if you're patient it'll come up. Well worth the wait as they are cracking cars. what's your car history and have you driven an f yet?
