  1. Is this voltage drop excessive, i.e. is my Battery rogered?

Further to my last post about bad Battery luck, I fully charged the Battery with my CTEK charger and disconnected the Battery to eliminate any parasitic drain from the car, I then took a voltage reading (almost ) daily, as follows

    Friday after charging      12.8 V

    Saturday                          12.58 V

    Sunday                            missed

    Monday                          12.53 V

    Tuesday                          12.5 V

    Wednesday                     12.49 V

    Thursday                          12.47 V

I know there's a lot of wisdom and experience on this forum, and would appreciate any opinions/advice

  2. In 2014, I bought a new Battery from Lexus for my LS 400, it became faulty in 2016 and was replaced FOC by Lexus. I suspect that this replacement Battery is now not holding its charge. Lexus have said that my warranty is 3 years from the date of the original purchase, so I'm out of luck. I can understand that they do not want to be replacing batteries FOC ad infinitum, but that is two Toyota batteries which have failed at just over two years.

Can anyone advise how much voltage drop  I should expect in a Battery that is not connected up? I have fully charged the Battery and will be taking readings every day for a few days before committing to another new Battery

  3. Not sure if it makes any difference, but this survey is from 2013. I'm also not sure I agree with some of the findings. I drove a Golf 1.6 petrol hire car over 300 miles in 2010 to pick up my new Skoda Octavia Scout TSI. The Golf was so much more refined than the Scout, dramatically so. I value quietness in a car and was very impressed with the Golf. I didn't keep the Scout long, too flawed in several areas

  4. I just tried Adrian Flux, who came in at over £100 more than my existing classic car renewal for my Lexus, and for lesser cover (my existing policy includes recovery). It's usually better to shop around at renewal time, but that's not me experience with my classic car cover.. Adrian Flux gave me a quote bit said " if it's not competitive our underwriters may be able to do better. Who the hell is going to faff around like that, when you already have a better quote. Give me a competitive quote up front, or please don't bother.

My wife's brother in law is a 'Jaguar man' and passes his Jaguar club magazine on to me when he is finished. As a Jaguar sympathiser, I always look for a good read, but I am truly shocked at what owners say.....new wishbones, not too bad at £450 a side......new rear suspension bushes only £400 as if it is 'normal'. The most scary aspect is corrosion. My daughter has a 12 year old FIAT Panda with no corrosion. Yes, a FIAT. Yet, a £50,000 Jaguar F type (the E-Type replacement ) has a string of corrosion issues, such that members are screaming for Jaguar to act. They do not.

Corrosion was solved by the bad boys of Lancia, Vauxhall, and Fiat in the late 1990's. That Jaguar still has an issue is really worrying.

We however, just waft along quietly in quiet snobbery ......and why not?

This was part of the reason for my post, I am a also a Jag man through and through and have a mk 2 in my garage awaiting a full restoration. I would love an x350, last of the proper Jags in my opinion, but can't (yet) reconcile myself to the prospect of more problems than I'm likely to encounter with my LS 400. The corrosion problems on some  of the newer models are shocking, as is the response by Jaguar, and are a further deterrent.

    Wow that’s a red rag😂

I have a long and current history  with Jaguar and Alfa. I didn’t expect to be with a Lexus for long but I saw the light.

I find the forum responsive, very polite and open to debate and incredibly supportive. I’ve been talked through a couple of stuck points on a cambelt change.

Sorry to my US friends but US forums are full of know it alls, the need to redesign stuff, thread hi-jacking is a complete nightmare....all marques.

    what more can I say?🧐

I agree, I'm not commenting on the content or tone of the forum, but the lack of traffic, which says much about these cars, I think

  7. There is usually so little to read on this forum, it could reasonably be described as pretty boring. I can go on Jaguar and BMW forums etc and read about all sorts of problems with engines, gearboxes, suspension problems, starting problems, creaking, rattling trim, electrical issues, not to mention the countless diesel related problems. I recognise that there are far fewer LS cars on the road than BMWs and Jags but perhaps, sometimes, it's good to be boring? (I hope I'm not tempting fate, the only issues I currently have on my 400 are the windscreen washer light on, I can't be bothered to fix it, and a new cable needed for my heater temperature control, which may be a major job and not worth resolving.

Perhaps the final test before buying a new car, is to gravitate towards those with the quietest forums?

  8. Some months ago my garage put my car on charge, we think there was a power surge and my instrument panel went dark. I disconnected the Battery, left it a while then reconnected, then  everything then worked perfectly, except for one problem. My odometer has "lost" 60,000 miles. It should show around 71300 miles, but actually shows around 11300 miles. My concern is that the MOT is due next week, and the radical change in mileage could look a bit sketchy. I only do around 3000 miles and this is clear on the MOT history but a sudden drop to 11000 miles could be a problem, particularly as I'm toying with the idea of selling the car.

i spoke to a local chap who does mileage corrections and he tells me that he can't do a mileage correction on my car because it is "old school and needs pulsing up technique to change the mileage. he doesn't have the equipment. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or have you had a mileage correction successfully done? It's not illegal to change the mileage and I want only to return it to where it was.
