This was my thinking as well. I don't know if the car being stood has had an effect but I know it's not the best thing to do with a car. I don't know how difficult they are to remove but there is a good company not far away that rebuilds alternators. If I can get it off it is likely to be much cheaper than buying a new one

I took my LS400 off the road around 6 months ago as it was going nowhere. I plan to fettle it in the Spring, get it over my inspection pit, Dinitrol underneath, service it etc ready for the road again. It is permanently hooked up to my CTEK charger and the plan was to periodically drive it up and down the drive to keep things loose. Due to working all hours preparing my house for sale, the driving up and down the drive has not happened frequently enough. I started it up today and it started no problem, but I have a couple of issues. A notification came up for headlight levelling, although it did not come up the second time when I started again it to move it. The battery light is staying on when the engine is running (the battery is only 18 months old and still in warranty). The other thing I noticed is that the wipers seem slower on every speed setting. Clearly, I need someone to test the battery/alternator but as it is still off the road, does anyone have any ideas?

It's insignificant in the scheme of things, but the only thing you've overpaid for are the washers, because B and Q multi packs are an outrageous ripoff

Employees have the right not to go to work if they consider the workplace to present serious and imminent danger. Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act sets this out very clearly. I'm surprised we do not hear more about this, although the level of risk can be very subjective, it's down to interpretation and opinions can differ greatly. Most employees would not know about this legislation and would be reluctant to use it anyway. This is where unions are invaluable. My view is that the risk with the new strain of the virus is not the same as it was a couple of months ago, but I doubt if many if any risk assessments have been reviewed. Many employees, including my daughter, are being made to attend workplaces rather than work from home, even in situations in which the risk to employees is not adequately controlled, and sometimes in circumstances in which physical attendance is not strictly necessary.

The HSE are the enforcing authority for most workplaces, although for some it is the Environmental Health/Health and Safety section of the local authority. Don't expect much from the HSE, they are chronically understaffed, and it's not easy to get them to take action. If appropriate, they can serve an improvement notice or even a prohibition notice. They have extensive powers, e.g. of entry etc.

I have 17" DHP alloys on mine, and last year fitted Kumho tyres all round. They're pretty good and weren't difficult to source

A little more information, opinions welcome. I tried it again today and before starting the engine the pedal is firm. On starting the engine the pedal goes down quite a way, when driving it comes back up a bit and brakes just fine. I must sort it out though, it's very disconcerting, I'll be getting the car over my pit next week and taking a good look.

You're right, my friendly Sheffield Lexus dealer confirmed this. the 230 is left hand drive. Only one brake pipe affected I think, but access is not easy, not sure if it's worth pursuing. I'm looking at a brake master cylinder from Rockautos. My Lexus dealer quotes a part number of 47201-50240, Rockautos list an identical looking part with a part number of 47201 -50230. In the experience of anyone who's imported parts from the USA, are these likely to be the same?

I have found two possibilities on the Rockauto website, one is Advics, claims to be original manufacturer, the other is Centrics. The Advics part comes complete with reservoir, it is listed as fitting my car, but the part number is one out, it is part number 4720150230,as opposed to 4720150240. I wonder could they be handed for LHD/RHD cars? They are a fraction of the price quoted by Lexus dealers, even including shipping and duty

That was my thought Malc, I rang lexus and there are no refurbishment kits, seals available. I'm not sure it is the master cylinder, the car's only done 70,000 miles. I ay try just bleeding the brakes first

As per my previous post, I'm investigating spongy brakes on my 99 LS 400 and the master cylinder may be suspect. Has anyone changed this part, and has anyone investigated alternative sources beyond main dealers? I have a 99 LS 400. Today I noticed that on start up the brake pedal went down a hell of a long way with hardly any resistance. On driving the car the brakes work fine but am I right in thinking it's likely that the brakes need bleeding? Is this straightforward on a series 4 400? Does anyone have the procedure for this? I will probably do this over my inspection pit with someone operating the brake pedal. I have done this before although not for many years and never on a Lexus. The brake fluid level is fine and two years ago I asked my Inie to change the brake fluid, although I'm not sure this was done. Even simple advice like what diameter tubing I need would be useful

He's obviously dodgy, but I can't say he's misrepresenting himself as a private seller in that ad. It's blatantly obvious to anyone that he is a dealer.

What else can you get for £2900? I would suggest it's likely to be less reliable than a well maintained Lexus, with only a fraction of the driving pleasure and comfort

Very sorry to hear of your loss Messi. Much of the talk on the media seems to be about numbers, statistics and graphs but every case is an incredibly sad human story, leaving devastated families in its wake.

I'd be worried. I'm no good with car electrics but my only suggestion would be to remove it, (or cut it in a convenient location so that it can be reconnected), and find out what, if anything, doesn't work any more.

I don't know if these are available anyway but thinking outside the box, it occurred to me that it may be possible to get some made by someone with a 3D printer, copying one you already have? I have no idea whether this service exists anywhere but if its feasible, you could then paint all centre caps to match? Just an idea

Does anyone know definitively what type of blade fuses are used in my 1999 LS 400? I have searched online and there are various types such as mini, micro2, micro3 etc with little to choose between them. I want to buy a couple of spares. Thanks in advance
