  1. I just bought some chrome badges for my LS, I was lucky to drop on a great used set, avoiding the rather pricey new ones. Some have lugs missing and all have a residue on the back. Can anyone please suggest the best way to fit these? Superglue was suggested but this does not seem right to me. I thought about clear silicone , but it can be tricky to get rid of all the residue. Is there something designed for this?

I have a full set front and rear. The front is held on with a single screw yet, and I haven't yet looked at how to access that. Hopefully, it'll be straightforward

  2. I'm having my throttle body cleaned to try and improve throttle response and mpg, and having read some posts on here, I was thinking about changing the coolant temperature sensor, thinking it was a cheapish part. I have been quoted around £60 for the snsor at the main stealers, which is much higher than I expected. Is it possible to get pattern parts, anfd if so are these satisfactory?

  3. just an update for those who were kind enough to respond to this. I got in touch with the auto electrician, who thought it probably neede d a new instrument panel, as he thought it was a common fault on the 400. I explained that I did not think that was true on the mk 4.. Long story short, as the electrician was busy anyway, I collected the car and took it home. I disconnected the Battery and put it on charge for a few hours. Hooked it up again anf hey presto, back to normal. I did this based on advice given here. The bodyshop have been dead right with me so I was pleased both to rectify the problem and to prevent any unnecessary expense for them.

Just need new chrome badges now to complement my new paintwork

  4. Mark, hard to say because I had some panels sprayed. some polished and other work including having a headlamp polished back, it was included in that work. All I can say is that if you are contemplating paintwork, shop around. I got 4 quotes, one was too high, one was too low , I chose the middle ground, and not all were going to go about the work the same way. You need to clarify whether door handles are to be removed etc (essential really or the rubber seals will be painted as well)

  5. The one feauture the LS lacks, including my 400, is heat insulating glass. Mercedes had it in the 80s and 90s and it should have been standard. I could not live without aircon and have spent quite a bit replacing seals, pipework etc to keep mine working. If I were in the position of not being able to afford a fix, I would have to sell the car, although I would investigate the possibility of heat reducing film for the windows first

  6. On picking up my car from the body shop, they pointed out that my dashboard lights have gone out, no lights, no rev counter etc. When moving the gear lever, the N did flash momentarily before going out. They have had the car on trickle charge as the Battery was low. I know this has been covered in the forum before, but I was not aware the dashboard light problem was an issue on the MK 4. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? I'm concerned they may have overcooked something while charging as they do a lot of work on commercial vehicles. My charger is an mx5 intelligent charger, but not sure what they use. I've had the car going on three years and never had this problem, even when Battery went flat. Any ideas on most obvious cause? I have left the car with them to sort it out, at their suggestion.

  7. I have just had my LS 400 sprayed on both sides, to get rid of the various scratches it has acumulated over the years. They have done an amazing job and it looks beautiful. The car is dark red metallic with the bottom trim in a different colour, a sort of aubergine? The door mirror backs are in the aubergine, whilst the mirror brackets are in the red body colour. Can anyone confirm that this is correct? I would have thought that the door mirror backs would have matched the main body colour? Grateful for any feedback

  8. I have just had my LS 400 serviced by an indy called Lex-Tec, based near junction 31 of the M1, I also had the spark plugs changed ( I supplied these) and on inspection, the brake pads were well worn so I had those changed all round at the same time. Dave is a very nice chap and very, very knowledgeable, with 20 years Lexus experience. He is also happy to work on hybrids. My car is now running sweeter and smoother and has lost the hesitation it had on setting off.   He also seems to be pretty reasonable, cost wise. He can be found on Facebook , but his contact number is 07956233463. I have absolutely no connection with Dave or Lex-Tec, but it was refreshing to  have the Lexus worked on by someone who clearly cares and really knows what he is doing, without needing a mortgage broker. I was offered a coffee and sat in a waiting area with my laptop, as wifi was  available. The only difference between this and a main dealer was the little biscati in wrappers provided by main dealers, which makes them very expensive biscuts. even more so than tho ones flogged by Prince Charles. In my view, having a good indy I can trust is priceless, and may even make the difference between my keeping the car and moving on to something else.
