I have found over the years that since insurance companies increasing make use of computerized proposals questionaires, very minor differences in your answers, particularly over occupation and usage can make significant differences to the premium. It is worth calling them and going over every aspect of the quote to make sure they understand fully your circumstances. For example, I have always had business use on my RX despite being retired as I volunteer in a couple of places and need to use the car to get to the venues. It was their choice to give me business use as the usage did not fit any of their categories, and I paid around £300 a year. Until this year when their computer decided that business use was the same as a rep using the car and my premium jumped to £700+. This only got resolved by calling and hanging on for 30 mins to speak to a human, who when I explained the true usage of the car, still covered me for "business" use but then reduced the premium to about £260 !! The insurer concerned is Privilege who for the last few years have beaten every online comparison quote for both our cars Online negotiations have their place but sometimes you need to speak to a human.

When I had my GSF screen replaced, Autoglass used a Lexus screen. The downside was I had to wait about 3 weeks for it as there were none in the country and it was on back order. I personally think it unlikely Autoglass will be sourcing a non OEM screen as it would have to be to the same spec and for a model that sells in relatively low numbers is it in anyone's interest to tool up for something they are not going to sell very quickly? The Autoglass technician was very careful , I watched him throughout and the ADAS didn't have to be recalibrated as it didn't work any less well after, not that it ever worked properly. We've had 20mph limits in my area for about 3 years now and they are OK in parts and a real nuisance in others. We now have 20mph limits on wide straight main roads that have had 30mph for decades without too many apparent problems. We also have 20mph limits on residential side roads which according to the police are completely unenforceable so they are used as rat runs by speeders. 20 mph in a wide main road is far too slow , all it leads to is boredom and lack of concentration. 20 mph in a residential side road with cars parked both sides and poor sight lines is ,in my view, too fast, but you just can't tell some people. My personal opinion is that highways departments in local councils are staffed by cyclists who want the roads all to themselves, so they are trying to drive the motorists out.

I came from a GSF and in normal driving I haven't found the 4RX to be any less useable, but the hybrid system suits my driving style better than the GSF. Acceleration from a standstill to around 30mph is surprisingly quick, I am often surprised when pulling away from lights how far everybody else is behind me after 5 secs. It is not a sports car by any means and it wobbles a bit on fast corners on country roads but you adjust your driving to suit. Mid range acceleration is adequate for our crowded roads and it cruises happliy at speed. I would say its biggest drawback is its sheer size, you cannot see where the front ends and width restrictions are thrilling. A Premier model with all round cameras seems a good idea. However you need to get an extended test drive to see whether it really suits you. I was lucky enough to be loaned one for a couple of weeks but I was pretty sold on it right from the start and at the end I didn't want to give it back. Hope this helps.

FWIW my RX450h has averaged about 34mpg in the 3 and a half years I have had it. This can drop to about 25mpg in mid winter if the car is used for short runs and the petrol motor has to run more to warm the cabin up. On longer runs 38mpg is often seen and on a round trip to Edinburgh it averaged 38mpg. It also does slightly less to the gallon on very hot days as the air con works harder and drains the traction battery quicker. It has to be said though that a different driving style is needed for hybrids to get the best out of them, but this is soon learned.

I've had tiny stone chips on many of my cars , Lexus and non Lexus and none of them have resulted in local blistering. Cars these days are phosphated during the paint process which should stop corrosion spreading. One Lexus dealer says paint fault and the one who might have to do something about it says it's your fault. Hmm, I would escalate to dealer principal level. After all, you bought a very expensive car from them , and they should be looking for repeat business. If you get no joy with the dealer escalate again to Lexus UK. It is possible that some minor damage on the car was repaired badly before you had it. I had a similar thing on my ISF where paint started to bubble on the rear wheel arch. Result, a new wing. On the other hand, as others have suggested , a smart repair may be the easiest way out.

A dash cam is absolutely essential in these times. Driving standards have fallen noticeably since Covid and lack of police presence on the roads. Together with this a worrying proportion of our population have no moral compass and will think nothing of claiming that what ever happens was your fault , and will even produce "witnesses" to back that up. Just make sure the camera has a clear image and is reliable. Plenty of reviews on the net. I tend to agree with the last post re downloading videos. I've found connection to a phone a bit hit and miss and prefer taking the card out and interrogating it on the computer.

I certainly wouldn't risk using a Brillo pad on the glass. Could the marks be lime from tap water? Normal cleaning products are not very good at removing these but I've found something like Viakal sprayed on a plastic pan scourer and scrubbed gently to be effective. Be sparing with it , if you try, you don't want it on your paint. Just a thought.

When I had a replacement screen fitted to my GSF the biggest issue was getting one in the first place.I had to wait about 3 weeks because there were none in the country. If there are delays don't be fobbed off with "we don't know which dealership Au*****ss deal with" as they deal direct with Lexus UK and the screen I got was from Lexus. Bearing in mind these are fairly rare cars I can't see many people being interested in making pattern parts. The fitter was very careful taking the screen out and putting the new one in and the camera stuff worked as well afterwards as it had before ( which is not very well) . I didn't bother with recalibration because I don't use LKA and I look at road signs to tell me what the speed limit is.

As PCM said, test drive them both before a decision. Try and get an extended test drive as you need to compare them in all situations. I've had my RX for 3 years and I love it, but it is big and you should consider trying for one with the panoramic cameras. I can't see where the front of mine is and without the rear camera I would never be able to park it.

These things are always awful, especially when the other party will not put their hands up to it. The complication here might be that both cars are insured with the same company. Some insurance companies are lazy and faced with conflicting accounts will simply try and treat it as knock for knock. That way they get two lots of excess deducted and two customers to charge more for the next few years. To my mind if someone is entering a main road from a side road and runs into the side of another car it is down to them, despite what so called "witnesses" might say. If your insurer starts the knock for knock argument they need to be reminded forcefully of the contract they have with you. If they still won't play you can refer it upwards to the ombudsman or take them to court. A friend of mine had a guy reverse into the side of him while he was stationary and the insurers tried to go for knock for knock. He took them to court and won as the judge could see how the damage was caused from the photos. You might also find that witnesses memories become vague when faced with the prospect of lying to a court. Hope this works out for you.

Mine does the same and so did my previous GSF. They both regularly show(ed) the limit on the local dual carriageway as 110mph . It is 50mph. Basically the system doesn't work as it should everywhere.This might be something to do with the extreme rake of the windscreen and distortions misinterpreted by the camera. Just as well I rely on the mark one eyeball and road signs to check the speed limits. This sort of equipment malfunction is going to be a bit of a problem in the future when the powers that be require manufacturers to make the car rather than the driver obey the speed limit .

The wording hasn't changed , just the definition of the nominated driver. When I renewed I was told by two people at LRA that the nominated driver was only covered to drive the Lexus, which is no good to me as she won't drive it! This may have been due to the staff not being briefed properly but Lexus have now confirmed that both the main driver and the nominated driver are covered regardless of what car they are driving and LRA staff seem to be aware now. The only proviso is that if you call them out give them the reg no of your Lexus because that is how they identify you.

Just to update everybody, I took this issue up with Lexus senior management. The result is that yes you can add a partner who will be covered in any car, as it was previously. I have this in writing and a quick check with LRA confirms so the AA have been brought into line.

This issue has now been raised at CEO level and I am awaiting a response from senior figures at LRA. Watch this space.

I think this may be because us Brits are more badge conscious than the Americans and Lexus is regarded here as a sort of posh Toyota with none of the neighbour impressing aura that the German manufacturers have cultivated. Over there an import is just that , there is no differentiation as to where it came from. Just my opinion.

I spoke to two separate people at LRA this morning who said the same thing, and apparently this has happened in the last couple of weeks where Lexus UK have handed it all over instead of administering it themselves. The last person I spoke to said there would be a delay in processing my return payment as they had such a backlog of cancellations. Take from that what you will. It might be that your renewal happened before they changed it all. The Lexus website still says a second person can be added but the AA will only add that to the main members car , not any car as previously. I would recommend that you all check exactly what you've bought, because there seems to be some wriggling going on. Lexus seems to be turning into not the company that it has been in the past. I'll see what their new CEO has to say.

Hi, Just a heads up for those whose old style warranty has expired and who now have to source roadside assistance. The old Lexus breakdown scheme allowed a member to add a second person on , who would be covered for any car and the Lexus website gives the impression this is still the case. It is not as I've just discovered, upon renewing my cover. It seems that the whole thing has been outsourced to the AA who will not cover a second person in the way offered previously. I've now cancelled my membership and bought elsewhere, but the b*****s have hit me for a cancellation charge. Mis - selling anyone? I shall be taking this up with Lexus' new CEO once I find out how to contact him. This, together with the Relax so called warranty, means it is likely that I will becoming an ex customer of Lexus quite soon. Graham

I replaced all 4 tyres on my 4RX 450h recently and quite frankly I had a choice of Bridgestone Duellers or Bridgestone Duellers unless I wanted to pay £200+ for each tyre. Nothing else seemed to be freely available at local retailers. I would have liked to try Yokohama Geolanders as the wet road performance seems to be better , but availability at the time was poor. So I ended up with the Bridgestones again.

You need to get a second opinion. In my experience Lexus go over the top on their condition reports. Whether this is inexperience on the part of their techs or a desire to up the income that month I couldn't comment. I have had occasion to speak sharply to them in the past about allegations of work needed, which I don't agree with. It is interesting that rubber components in the suspension are I understand excluded from the Relax warranty so either they know something we don't or this type of work is going to become a new income stream for the dealers! I'm not cynical just experienced!

Hi All, Nice to see some sun at this time of year but it's so low it finds every smear on the inside of the screen. I've spent some time trying to clean it using microfibre cloths, Windowlene wipes , white vinegar etc all to little avail. Does anybody have any advice/recommendations for a substance that will actually remove the grease and smears? The RX screen is so large and steeply raked, trying to clean it internally is a real pain.

I wouldn't take too much notice of Clarkson's opinion. He's very entertaining but he's made a career out of rude comments about cars and he's never been complimentary about Lexus' offerings, except the LFA which I think he liked. He even criticised the ISF for having too many gears (rubbish) and a hard ride (fair comment) because he couldn't find anything else to complain about. In fact the whole motoring journalist world is a bit sniffy about Lexus cars, but we know better don't we??

My series 4 RX fuel consumption gets worse by varying amounts in cold weather. I think it is a combination of battery performance degraded due to low temperature, and the engine having to run more to keep the cabin warm. Much worse if the vehicle is only used for short runs as the petrol motor is running for a greater portion of the time. Down to 25-30 mpg over the last week!

I second everything that Bluemarlin says. If you haven't already it might also be worthwhile to run an MOT history check if you have the reg no. There should be plenty of inspection history and it will give a pointer to how the car has been looked after and whether the mileage being claimed is actually believable. Things that would raise red flags for me would be recent advisories that turn up on consecutive MOT's, recent failures on silly things like lights not working or bald tyres. Any car of this age and mileage might have a few issues in its history but you have to form an opinion based on what you can see. I had an auto Is250 for 3 years and it was brilliant but some model years aren't compatible with E10 so check against the government lists.
