  1. Malc, I think it, probably, means electrically adjustable door mirrors not working. My '94 was equipped with those.
  2. The currency fluctuation affects the pound as well as the dollar. It's very true to say that there are more options available in the States. In the UK an LS600L with all the bits costs GBP101,500 (latest list price). The same top spec car in the States costs $121,500 (GBP77,500) so there is quite a difference. I was in the USA for 6 months last year and the fuel price fluctuated between $2 and $3/US gal - except in California which is a different world. However, I agree with Ambermarine...........I love visiting the place but wouldn't want to live there. :)
  3. Please don't think I didn't enjoy my week with the 470......... It is a good machine and, measured against most cars, shows up very well. You wanted a comparison with the LS and that is a different matter - I don't think it is in the same league. It was great for cruising on and off-road in Nevada but - in Europe - car parks, country lanes, and the dreaded school run would be no fun at all.
  4. I think the main problem in the UK is the continuing deterioration of the roads. I bring my 460 across regularly and it is the first thing I notice. Here, in Holland, I never use the Comfort setting on the suspension but in the UK I have it selected all the time.
  5. You're right about the MPG. I was in Nevada and, with the air-con working hard, it was really noticeable that it gulped fuel. The ride was OK (nothing like the LS) but it won't like the UK roads in their present state. One other thing.......it's BIG! Check out the dimensions - you will have a lot of difficulty negotiating the turns and spaces in the average city centre car park.
  6. I had an LX470 as a hire car for a week, when I was in the States. It is a Landcruiser with an interior designed by Lexus. There are a few chassis mods as well but it is NOT an LS. The higher driving position is pretty good but it is still a pretty meaty (and not particularly sophisticated) vehicle. Just my opinion, of course. There are plenty of test drive vids on Youtube.
  7. The under-tray contributes to the overall aerodynamics of the car.....and therefore the mpg. The original LS had an incredibly low drag co-efficient - 0.36, if my memory serves. If you still have the original cd, there is mention of it on there.
  8. At least you've owned an LS. Think of all the poor sods who've never had the chance. As somebody famous once said...........you'll be back!
  9. I don't think it's so bad with my silver 460 but, when I had the gold 400, people thought that my willy was so small that I was counter-sunk. :)
  10. Can I ask you why you want them? I have a 460 with 19" wheels and I'm trying to swap them for 18". The reason is because the bigger wheels definitely affect the wonderful Lexus silent ride and comfort. BTW, I live in Holland so I won't be of any use to you.
  11. Rudy, A agree with Mike.......I think you may need to look at other tyres.
  12. Abba?..........please! No, I have to be very selective with my in-car music. I tend to get a bit involved and if, for instance, I listen to heavy rock (which I love)........even if the car is in cruise control, I tend to rest my foot on the pedal - and push :( That's how I got my last speeding ticket. The very worst for me is Elgar's 'Nimrod'. As it builds up to a crescendo, I just want to push the pedal through the floor......so that is BANNED! I blame it all on Mark Levinson :) At least, here in Holland, speeding is just a fine - no points. When driving, I listen to 'sensible' music - The Eagles, Chicago etc.
  13. Over the weekend I took a trip between my home on the Dutch coast to Maastricht and back. Total distance 500km/300 miles. A lot of the motorways in Holland now have a max speed of 130kph/80mph and the LS just loves cruising at that speed. At 80mph the 460 is doing 1950rpm..........barely ticking over! With my favourite music on the Mark Levinson, (no, I'm not telling - you'll only take the p??s) and beautiful weather, I was sorry when the journey came to an end. The only other Lexus I saw on the whole trip was an RX 400h. There were a lot of envious looks, though, from BMW/Mercedes/Audi drivers. :)
  14. I presume you are talking about 100k miles. My 460 gets a plug change every 60,000 miles (it's due the first plug change this year). Going by that, your next change would be 120,000 miles. What does your owner's manual say and have you talked to the garage?
  15. Malc, I agree with you about the timing chain in the 460. The servicing schedule doesn't mention it but, it stands to reason, it must need changing sometime. As for the mild steel exhaust, I must admit that surprised me. I remember, when I was buying my first LS in 1997 (it was a 1994 LS400) I asked the salesman about the things covered by the extended guarantee. He ran through various items and I asked, specifically, about the exhaust. He gave me a mildly amused look and said 'Sir, it is stainless steel - and we've never changed one'. Quality.......sheer quality :)
  16. Rudy, We are almost on the 'bonnie, bonnie banks'............Alexandria.
  17. Graham, You live in a beautiful part of the country......but it must be a pain to have to travel so far to get to a Lexus dealer. I'm lucky to have 2 dealers within 20 miles. If I were you, I'd drive the car down to Edinburgh myself and have that face-to-face. Incidentally, I'm writing this on the ferry between Amsterdam and Newcastle - we are coming over for a family celebration. So, if anyone sees a silver 460 with Dutch plates around the Glasgow area, give me a wave.
  18. Graham, Like you, I spent a lot of time in the forces (24 years) and, although you are much too young, you have some of the same perfectionist traits as my old drill sergeant. In fact, I am instinctively sitting to attention as I write this. :)
  19. Chris, If the Global Moderator says it is Karma............then Karma it is! :)
  20. After owning a 400 for 15 years, I got rid of it and bought an RX400. For the year I had it, my wife and I kept saying the same thing........'It's nice, but it's not an LS'. So we gave it back and bought an LS460. Once again, all is well in my motoring world.
  21. Graham, I'm glad you're still around to enjoy your LS. As for your sense of humour, I realised that was intact when you proposed using a solar panel - in Scotland :)
  22. I'm curious....... Underneath my 'No of Posts' I have a line which says ' 0 Warning Points '. I haven't seen that on another member's info and I wonder why. Apart from one speeding fine, I've led a blameless life. :)
  23. Graham, I'm glad that both you and the LS are up and running.
  24. Graham, As I said earlier, that was almost exactly what happened to my 460 last year. According to the US forum, these cars eat batteries if you don't either use the car or keep the battery charged. Good result!
