  1. It might be something as simple as a loose battery terminal. If you got it from a dealer, they tend to disconnect the battery until someone wants to look at the car. They, then, just tap the terminal back on. When you drive it over a bump, the loose connection does its thing.
  2. I know who would suffer the most expensive damage - me! However, if we do pass each other I will show impeccable good manners. Because of the 'seniority' of your 400, I will stop and salute you.......just like the AA patrolmen used to do :)
  3. Steve, I live in Holland, so the service plans are a bit different. Here, Lexus are running an offer called the 'Red Carpet Treatment'. Providing that you have your servicing done at a Lexus dealer, they will collect your car - no matter where in Holland you live - leave a dealer car, then bring your car back when it is ready. They will, also, recover you from anywhere in Europe (including UK) if you have any problems. This deal is good for the first 10 years of the car's life. Do they do the same in the UK? My car is just coming up to 90,000km, so I'll have the same service you did. I've had the 460 for 3 years and I'm finding it just as reliable as the 400 I had for 15 years. Since the last service I have put in fuel and washer fluid - nothing else, and I check everything once a week. The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) means I don't have to remove the valve caps and the pressure has remained constant all year. It just doesn't use oil. The LS (all models) are wonderful machines.
  4. Rudy, I'm over in Scotland for a couple of months and had dinner at Cameron House last week. Since I've been here, I've seen a few 200s but not one other LS.
  5. I'm taking my 460 for its annual service in a couple of weeks. I use a Lexus garage and I'm quite friendly with the Service Manager. If you don't mind waiting, I'll ask him for the lowdown.
  6. It looks like one of the bumper mounting brackets has been bent out of shape. Have a look at the US 460 forum - it has lots of detailed instructions for removing various bits and pieces.
  7. Definitely not my cup of tea. One of the things I like about the Lexus is its understated elegance and power. I really don't care if no-one else recognises the car........I know what it is and what it does. In my opinion, that car just debases the marque and looks like a Pimp-mobile. I wonder how many times he gets stopped for 'document checks'. Just my tuppence worth............. :)
  8. Do you have the AIRCON selected ON or OFF? Try both selections and see if it makes any difference. With it OFF it should give you heat with no problems.
  9. Rudy lives in the (beautiful) wilds of Argyll. He would need a 24 hr test drive just to get to his nearest Waitrose :)
  10. I agree with you, Rudy. To a 430 owner it has to be worth the money - just for spares. And, who knows, a little bit of TLC and it might be a goer. About 10 years ago, a friend of mine bought an S Class Merc that had been left in the same circumstances (its owner was being detained at 'Her Majesty's Pleasure') and he got years of use out of it.
  11. If you type 'Lexus SC430 recalls' into Google, it comes up with 5 recalls - all to do with the airbags.
  12. No it doesn't fit in.......... It should be set apart, in a slightly elevated position, so the other vehicles can admire true style and beauty. :)
  13. I really enjoy clicking in the Cruise Control, turning up the music and eating up the miles. I smile indulgently at the boy racers as they pass.......no matter how fast they go - they aren't sitting in an LS :)
  14. Mike, The extension part of the aerial is the same as the one fitted in a 'same-year' Camry. When I had my 400, I took it through a carwash (twice) with the aerial extended. Inserting the Camry innards was pretty easy - and much cheaper than the OEM.
  15. I agree with Mike. If I was thinking about buying it, I'd worry about how the rest of it has been looked after. You can tell a lot about an owner, and how he/she treats his/her cars, by checking out the interior. Did you see how PC I was there? :)
  16. Tart up the Aristo but, please, leave the LS stock. Sophisticated trumps brash every time. David, you become old when you spell 'become', 'bercome' :):)
  17. I've found that the trick with mine is to put the nozzle in the hole and let it hang naturally. Then SLOWLY open the trigger until full flow. Having said that, there are some filling stations which have such high pressure flow that it cuts out, no matter what I do. I don't go there again.
  18. I've posted this before.......The aerial insert is exactly the same as in a Toyota Camry (circa 2000). I took my 400 through a car wash - twice - and had to replace the insert. At the time, 10 years ago, Lexus wanted over 350 pounds for a complete new aerial. My local Lexus garage in Holland put a Camry insert in for 80 pounds.
  19. The reasons why some of us, who are still able-bodied, get upset at people who abuse Disabled Parking bays are manifold (to keep this on a motoring theme) But how about: 1. Many of us know people who have a disability and sympathise. 2. Today I'm fit and healthy - but tomorrow............ and 3. People who abuse Disabled Parking bays (probably) beat their wives and kids........kick their dogs.......and break wind in public! Just my opinion :)
  20. As I've said on another thread, I own a 2007 460 and love it. Roger is absolutely correct when he says that car enjoyment is a very subjective thing. One of the big differences between the 460 and 430 is that the 460 has a timing chain - not a belt. It, also, has an 8-speed gearbox. There are not many more goodies compared to the earlier model......so it comes down to personal preference. I prefer the shape of the 460. There are only two of us in the family so I didn't get all the back-seat electronics. This, and the fact that it isn't a hybrid (600) - so there is no extra battery, means that the boot is huge and takes all our luggage plus golf clubs :) ALL LS models are great cars!
  21. I've got a 2007 LS460 which I've owned for almost 2 years: it has 50,000 miles on it. Previous to that, I enjoyed a '94 LS400 for 15 years. I chose the 460 instead of the 600 because I intend to keep the car for a long time and I don't trust the hybrid system to be completely trouble-free, and battery replacement can be pretty pricey. So far, I've had absolutely no problems and am averaging 31 mpg overall. As someone has said, there are lots of goodies to keep the driver amused but I wouldn't say that it's way better than the 400..........it is just the natural development of the brand. I live in Holland and do most of my driving on the Continent. However, I'm coming across to Scotland next Sunday for 2 months. So, if any of you see a silver 460 with Dutch plates, in the Ayrshire, Glasgow, Loch Lomond area - come and say hello :)
  22. Distinguished?............yes. Ugly?......................never.
