  1. Malc ............pedant's hat on :) It's actually 'ball peen or pein', although in a way I agree with you - if you get a hammer in the balls, you will feel a pain :)
  2. I suggest you look in the US Lexus forum, there is a LOT of advice on this.
  3. I did a few trips to Cuba about 10 years ago: How about a stretched Lada.........
  4. Many years ago, I was an RAF Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. We were always taught that, because of the fine machining tolerances involved in aircraft manufacture and assembly, we were NEVER to use excessive force on anything. 'Fit it - don't force it!' was the mantra. One day, I was trying to fit a bearing into a housing, but it just wouldn't go. Eventually, I went to find the Chief Technician who, after inspecting the problem, went off then came back with a large wooden mallet. He positioned the bearing and gave it a mighty whack.......it fitted perfectly. 'But, Chief,' says I, 'we were taught not to use excessive force'. 'That wasn't excessive force', he said, 'that was a therapeutic tap.......and when you've been engineering as long as I have, you'll know the difference'. So, if all else fails, try a 'therapeutic tap' :)
  5. Refreshing and honest - yes.......but still only an opinion. I owned a 400 for 15 years and loved it. Three years ago I changed to a 460. Compared to the 400, I find it an improvement in almost every way. My big gripe, initially, was the tyre noise on the 19" rims. Recently I changed tyres from Dunlop Sport Maxx to Dunlop Maxx - problem solved. As for the Cruise Control.......it's the same as the 400 and, in fact, every Toyota and Lexus. I find it very easy to use. Brakes - as good as the 400 Steering - ditto. You paid all that money for a car and didn't do a test drive? You see, opinions are like a...holes - we all have one :)
  6. I must admit that, when possible, I've used Dunlops on my LS's. My 460 had Dunlop MAXX Sport 245/45 R19 fitted when I bought it. I thought they were a bit noisy so, when it came time to replace worn tyres on the front, I tried standard Dunlop MAXX 245/45 R19. The difference in noise is incredible. My 460 is now, almost, as quiet as my 400 was :)
  7. Graham, that's a real 'Gotcha'. I thought mine had a lot of sensors but you've got the 600, so there must be even more on your machine. As I said earlier, the thing that loses me is the Navigation Manual. I cannot, for the life of me, see a reason for many of the tricks the nav system is capable of - and I like gadgets. David, no, it isn't Please Forgive Me..........
  8. Steve, No problem, glad I could help. I'm one of those sad people who likes reading technical manuals. I thought the 300 plus pages in my 400 manual were comprehensive but, as you know, the 460 Tech Manual has 644 pages .......then there is the Navigation Manual with 216 pages. I've spent a lot of time going through the Tech Manual and I'm reasonably au fait; but the Nav Manual can lose me very quickly.
  9. In my Owner's Manual, the info is on Pages 246 and 247.........Rear Pre-Crash Safety System: Whiplash Mitigation (pre-crash intelligent head restraint). Under 'Conditions' it states that the system will be triggered if a vehicle passes you too close at the rear. PFM!
  10. Dear me, Graham, You're driving the top-of-the-range LS.......and you're putting cheap batteries in the headphones. You know what they say - 'Penny wise, Poundland foolish' :)
  11. Hi folks, just visiting from the LS forum. Today I followed an IS 220D (07 plate) from Carlisle to Hexham. Every time he accelerated, great clouds of blue smoke emanated from the exhaust. Is this a known problem or is his engine on the way out?
  12. I keep hearing about blown speakers; in 19 years of LS ownership I've never had any problems with Mark Levinson's products. What sort of volume are folks playing things at. I find that I can enjoy music without having blood pouring from my ears........and I listen to a LOT of rock music :)
  13. Hi Jawad, There aren't many of us with 460's but, as Mike says, we will always try to help. You might like to check out the US Lexus forum.....there are a lot more 460's over there and they seem to have experience of most of the problems.
  14. If you're talking about the one in the glove box.......I used to take mine out, once a year, and blow it through with an air hose. I certainly didn't disconnect the battery.
  15. In the US, most of the petrol sold is, actually, a petrol/ethanol mix - up to 30% ethanol. I drove across the American Mid-West not so long ago and, for over 1000 miles, there was nothing but corn (maize) fields. When I enquired who was eating all the sweetcorn, I was told that 80% of it goes towards producing ethanol. It's all part of the plan to make the US self-sufficient in energy.
  16. I've tried to like it over the years but it's no use........I still think it's plug ugly. And a complete waste of a large wheelbase. Just sayin'...........
  17. http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/magazine/articles/Vehicle-Insider/Ask-Lexus-Car-Wash This might be of interest.
  18. In all the years I had the 400, I never needed to top-up the coolant or oil between annual servicing. Now I have a 460 with TPMS.........so I don't have to top up the tyres either. Mind you, I do lift the bonnet now and again........just to admire the engineering :)
  19. A couple of months ago I started a thread about what it was like to own a 460. After owning a 400 for 15 years I changed to a 2007 LS460. So far, the 460 has been as reliable as the 400 and, apart from the yearly service, has cost me nothing spares-wise. I've had it since 2013 and it has 60,000 miles on the clock. It is our only car and is used daily. It has lots of goodies (even more than the 400) and, in my opinion, is a better car to drive. An added bonus is that it has a timing CHAIN which doesn't need changing every 62,000 miles. Mind you, the chain won't last for ever. If it starts to make a noise, I'll get it looked at. Like most second-hand purchases, you just have to take your time and find a good one.
  20. I had the windscreen replaced twice on my 400. Autoglass did it both times and it takes a while. I watched them do both and there is a lot of sealant to remove and replace - then there is the curing time. There are subtle differences in the part numbers depending on the year. They got the wrong one delivered one of the times. However, I had no problems with their fitment.
  21. Is it possible that the wiper rubber (not the arm) is loose and shifting during turns. I had that happen years ago in another make of car. If it is, just squeeze the holding clamps together with a pair of pliers - not TOO tight, though, because a bit of movement is necessary to prevent squeak and judder.
  22. Sorry guys, if you want to 'pimp your ride' that's up to you........but I think the LS is above all that. Just sayin'.................
  23. A while ago, there was a thread on the US Lexus forum on just this subject. Just go to www.clublexus.com and type 'LS 460 armrest removal' in the search box.
  24. 'Are we going a bit OTT?' Possibly.......but this is the LS Forum - so why not? :)
  25. Jason, Just as a matter of interest what, exactly, didn't you like about the 460? I drove a 400 for 15 years then changed to a 460. I find the 460 superior to the 400 in almost every way and I'm baffled by your comments. Or is it just 'horses for courses'?
