Cheap ls600
jpjsavage replied to Chasdad's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
I would make sure that you have a good reserve fund if you are going in at that point. Unless you can do work yourself (I can't), there are some complex things that could quickly mount up to a big bill - even with an independent. -
Well, I have had two before but both Mk4s.

It's definitely 10 years or 100k. Nice car though.

We are viewing a new 450h+ over the weekend and will almost certainly be looking to purchase this from the main dealer in early Sept. So, this is a provisional sales post for our RX450h. It is a 2020 plate, done just less than 53k miles, and we are the second owner. Black with a cream interior. Takumi spec with sun-roof, Mark Levinson sound system, etc. I'm sure if you are looking at these you will know the score! Basically, every you need with the exception of the side steps. The car has also had those security plates fitted by Lexus to stop access to the bits of tech hidden behind the headlights that are so desirable for thieves to access. We bought this car at one year old from our Lexus main dealer. Every service and all checks, tyres and anything else that the car has ever needed has been done by the same Lexus main dealer. It has a full service history. Should we proceed with the purchase of the new 450h+, I will update this post with photos etc once the car has been cleaned and valeted. It is in very good condition. I'm hoping for around £31K for this and obviously open to reasonable offers. The car is located in south Cheshire, just 2 miles from J17 of the M6.

I had mine from 100,000 miles to around 160,00 miles over around 3 1/2 years. All covered by a full Lexus warranty bought at the point of purchase from Lexus Stoke. Was around £200/year from memory. At the time, Lexus provided a full main dealer warranty on any pre-owned car under 10 years old and 100,000 miles. Mine was just over but they gave it to me anyway! That said, hardly anything went wrong with it and I think I only used the warranty once for some suspension work.

I'm really pleased you have bought this. I saw it in person when it first came in. I was waiting for my RX450h to be serviced. I went back a week later to have a test drive (with Peter as it happens). The car is beautiful. I was very tempted but I decided not to proceed in the end. Not quite the right time for me what with an imminent house move. I'm sure you will be very happy with it. Lexus Stoke are fantastic to deal with. I bought my previous LS600h from them plus our current RX450h. I couldn't be happier with their service. James, on the service desk, is fabulous to deal with and nothing is too much trouble. Enjoy the new LS500!

The RX is very refined. However, it does not compare in refinement to the LS (in any form). It is an awesome offer. If I buy the LS500 from Lexus, I can drive it for another 68,000 miles (probably six years for me) and have a full manufacturer warranty for all of them (providing I service the car at Lexus - and why wouldn't you do that?).
-
The good news is that with Lexus' new 10,000 miles service, get a full year manufacturer warranty, system - you can buy any Lexus and not have to worry about anything until the car reaches 10 years old or 100,000 miles. This is a brilliant proposition for anyone wanting a more modern car and no worries about any major mechanical issues you mention. Lexus warranties are pretty bullet proof in my experience.

It was funny to see this come up today. I had a LS600h for four years and loved every minute of it. I sold it when my wife and I got our RX450h a few years ago. I've been thinking about finding another LS600h or perhaps a LS500. I'm writing this from the Lexus dealer where my RX is in for a full service and I've just had a test drive in a pre-owned LS500 (around three years old, 32k miles). I am finding it very hard to pinpoint any noticeable differences between the two (beyond the obvious styling, updates to various systems/technologies, etc). The experience of luxury, comfort and general driving are very similar to me. I guess the option of spending around £47k on a LS500 or c.£10-15k on a LS600 might be worth considering too. However, both are excellent cars that, I guess, may not be being manufactured for too much longer in their current forms. So, enjoy one or the other whilst you can!

Thanks Malc. I'm glad you are enjoying your LS400. I have fond memories of my two LS400s. I've never had a Honda Legend but I have had plenty of other Hondas over the years. Great choice. FWIW, the new RX450h+ is a business contract hire proposition. I can't see the point of purchasing a new car outright personally nowadays. The tax benefits are significant and as I pay myself next to nothing the BIK payments will be minimal. When the time comes to sell the business, or move on, I'll be looking for an older Lexus again. But I wouldn't purchase a LS600 or similar without a full main dealer warranty in place.

We found the new RX450h+ to be considerably quieter than our current RX450h (2020). We don't tend to thrash our cars around the lanes of Cheshire, and under 'normal' driving it was super refined. The electronic door locks will take a bit of getting used too. They are 'intelligent' in that they won't open if there is a car/cyclist/passenger in the blind spot (I thought that was cool). However, you can use them in the old fashioned way if you want to do so. In terms of the heads up display controls, the touch sensitive controls seemed very easy to manage and I found it very straightforward to manipulate the various functions. As with anything new, they'll be a learning curve no doubt.

Hi Malc, Yes, I did 60k very happy miles in an LS600 over three years not so long ago. Prior to that, I had two different LS400s which I really enjoyed too. In terms of an 'all round' comparison, our current RX450h is a long way short on the refinement front. The new RX450h+ is a big step forwards in so many ways (I outlined some of them above). However, neither are the same as an LS in terms of waft, that near silent drive, and overall comfort. I've not had a current LS, but I read that these fall some way short too. The Mrs loved the LS600. However, she much prefers the higher driving position offered by the RX. And, to be honest, there are so many other things that the RX450h+ does better than the LS600. Hand on heart, I don't know if I would want to still be driving around in car with a 5.0 litre petrol engine in the current climate (financial and environment). I think the RX450h+ provides a brilliant step for those of us that don't want a fully electric car yet but still want the benefits of Lexus' brilliant engineering and their long-standing commitment to, and experience of, hybrid technologies. Finally, we did explore the options of a hybrid Cayenne. But our experience with the Porsche dealer was absolutely awful. I won't go into details but it has put me off ever going into a Porsche main dealer showroom again. In contrast, the whole team - Natalie on reception, James on the service desk, and the various other sales folk we meet at Lexus Stoke including Peter (yesterday), Jamie and James - have all been absolutely brilliant over the last 7 years. Nothing is too much trouble, we are always greeted with a friendly smile, on first name terms, and I can't criticise the customer experience at all. We sell luxury musical instruments on occasions. I know they are wanting to sell expensive cars to us, but these kind of human interactions really count in my experience. I hope you are still enjoying your LS400 Malc. Best wishes, Jonathan
