The hybrid battery unit was repositioned on 2010 models to give slightly more space, but only slightly! DAB was standard on the 2010 GS SE-L only, as part of the Mark Levinson sound system - according ot the 2010 brochure DAB was not available otherwise. All 2010 model year cars came with HDD sat nav with 40gb drive, plus a USB connector. hth

Sc430 Starter Motor Remove/refurb & Next Week Refit
Connoisseur replied to Connoisseur's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
Thanks. Yes, contacts and plunger, and as it's off, they offered to strip down for a fuller check. About £50 in total; happy not to have to go for aftermarket replacement, or the brand new Toyota/Denso part!! -
My starter motor never stopped the occasional but consistent clicking and no start, Changed the relay, checked the battery and connections, all to no joy. So today the manifold came off with the help of two friends/engineers. Lexus hours for the job are somewhere north of 5 but today the mainfold was off in 1.5 hrs and the starter motor soon after. As you can see from the pics we found meal nuts etc. in the base of the 'V' but no wildlife so assume at some point in its life the car has been stood for a while with 'under the manifold' making a warm home! First pic is with the starter motor still in place, the second following removal. The manifold comes off whole/in one piece, and we didn't need to unbolt the water pipes so one refitting job saved! Motor refurb is this week so all will be back together and back on the road next Saturday. Total hours expected to be circa 3.5 for the full job. Refurb will cost a lot lot less than a new motor and be just as good a job, and means I retain the original Denso/Toyota part. Part of doing jobs like this with help is how much more I learn about the car - as well as how well engineered they were/are. pic 1 pic 2

It costs a car dealer approx £60 to £80 for the full Supaguard kit and to apply it. Like alloy/tyre insurance (which can be worth it) Gap insurance and other 'offers' allow the dealer to get back some of the discount they have given, or to increase their margins, which to be fair are often tight. I have bought a few cars recently. Was offered Gap insurance for £400 on my GS when my own insurance co. would sell it to me for £95, and Supagard for more than your offered price. Put 'Supagard' into ebay and you might be surprised at what the kit would cost you You could try to negotiate the price down as they will still make money. At £305 imho it is a costly option.......... M

Decided To Paint Mine As Well!
Connoisseur replied to The-Acre's topic in Lexus Car Care & Detailing
Car looks great, that paint job is hi quality. What did you use to polish the headlamps? -
as above plus I give attention to the 'softer' things that help make the car a Lexus, so regular lube for all door and other hinges, checks on the bonnet and boot gas struts. On the 450h I am told there are mini oil filter(s) on the cams. Haven't found where they are yet but I understand oil sludge is a particular no no on this engine so am going to chase the info up. Diff oil check/change is scheduled for 5 years. Is it worth getting Lexus to do an annual hybrid system check? Different views on that but as they have been done regularly on my car I'll continue with them. Here's to your next 6000 miles!

I know Cobblers Cottage, very cozy looking and smart inside. This is the one we have always rented http://www.seacrest-cottage-mousehole.co.uk/about_seacrest/ My LS fits very nicely around the tiny but beautiful streets of Mousehole. Mike. The view from Seacrest looks wonderful. Can see why you keep going back.

Michale ............. " When in silent electric mode the car does also take people by surprise.......... " In my Ls400 I find the same often applies when I'm slowly driving behind pedestrians in the road too ...... and mine's of course all petrol !! hahahahaha ............... the " silence of the lambs " maybe, always was / is a wolf in sheep's clothing so as to speak Malc Malc, Wouldn't be a Lexus otherwise eh! :arrrggg-matey: Mike

Hi Mike, we stayed at Cobblers Cottage on Fore Street, literally 30 seconds walk from the harbour. It comes complete with garage parking and the place was fine. It is a very old building but with plenty of room. PM me if you'd like more info. Agree with you on 'Mousel' - we will definitely go back........

Spent last week on holiday Cornwall with the GS. A recent thread on the LS forum talked about a member going to Cornwall and never seeing another LS at all. So thought I'd keep a similar eye out for GS's on my travels. Didn't see one for the whole week... except when comihg in to the county on the A30 spotted a GS450h in exactly the the same colour and trim as mine going the other way!! Did 380 miles each way to get there with the car proving the great long distance cruiser it is. Supreme comfort, great speed and despite 'pressing on' still got 30+ mpg with OEM roof bars and roof bag on. We were staying in Mousehole which is full of tiny two way streets with very tight bends. Was pleasantly surprised at how manouevrable the GS is in tight spots surrounded by pedestrians. When in silent electric mode the car does also take people by surprise........... Will post separately about the OEM roof bars saga, for now suffice to say don't dismantle them completely to clean them up (bought off ebay) without first realising that the fittings are all specific to one roof position!!!!

What Have You Done To Your Car Today ?

he heh, I won't Gary, honest, tho my own wife might............. back on topic - yesterday I did some paint touch up on the GS (with cocktail stick mind, no brush!) and today drove the SC up the A1 with the hope that when I return home later this afternoon, the sun will be shining and I can put the roof down - fingers firmly crossed..
