  1. no news yet, other than they accept that there is a leak from pot 7 into water jacket, but they haven't found out why. i told them that as i had diagnosed a head gasket and they had discounted my opinion, then i would be prepared to pay for parts but would be looking to them to cover the labour. (on the basis that most of the work i've already paid for includes the sort of work needed to replace the head gaskets, if that's what it is.) we'll see what happens on settle-up day! whenever that's going to be!

    whichever way it goes, i'll post the garage name after it's all over, and either praise them for being 'good blokes' or slate them for being 'cowboys'. keep watching!

  2. your best light source (pardon the pun!!) is probably another lexus owner who's gone for a set with the clear indicators, and has the old ones sitting on a shelf in the garage.

    i've not read anything in this forum about central locking motors failing, so are you sure it's not the wiring? or the control ralay/s?

    and as for breakers having lexus's, they're like hen's teeth!

    if you find one, you could tell us tho' :P

  3. Wow! i've spent a kings ransome on mine, but i'm sure i wouldn't go that far, unless it was fairly new, which mine isn't!

    but it begs a question; if toyota want to continue to enjoy the reputation that lexus cars are ultra reliable, they really should come up with an 'at cost' replacement for the calipers and 'rotors'. and while they're at it, they could supply PSU's and displays for the instruments, again at cost.

    despite everything, i still think the LS400 is a great car.

    are the latest 430s suffering from crap brakes in the same way?

  4. if you can get the brackets, the gas struts (which the yanks call hydraulic for some reason) can be sourced UK. get the right length and approx NM, then buy adjustable struts (these have a small release screw to lower the pressure). but remember, what comes out WILL NOT GO BACK. you can only lower the pressure, not increase it. adjust it on a cold day cos they are always more powerful on hot days.

  5. i once gave a false email address to one site so that i could get 'free access password to unlimited porn'! all the viagra and teenage skin spam is addressed to the false name and is re-routed by the domain name i used. although, my AOL address is starting to get it too, but aol usually sort that. never used a c.card tho, but it won't be long before someone realises that they can get porn just by quoting the card details they find on discarded shop receipts. that's when the fun will begin! wonder if any of the 7,000 paedos caught in america will use that as a 'get out of jail free card'.

OR take out the bulb fitting and direct a hair drier on low setting into the hole, maybe by improvising a nozzle, but don't fill more than half the hole, then just leave it running, but keep an eye on it. the heat will vapourize the water and the through-put of air will clear it out of the bulb holder hole, eventually. let it cool down in a low humidity atmosphere, like leave the hair dryer running in the general area but not directed on the lamp fitting. then re-fit the bulb. then do it again next time it happens (wonder how the water gets in tho?)

  7. water loss 1 litre every 20 miles or so! i took it in for the same reason in december, and was told rad had a leak, so new rad, and while i was at it, full service, all oils and fluids changed (except air con), new front pads, freed-off 'hand brake shoes', new HT leads, cam belt, water pump, adjusters, fan belt, one dist cap and rotor (the other was new from previous owner), thermostat, odds and ends, 2,650 quids worth! and now it looks like it is the head/s (which was my original thought) so i shall be having my negotiating skills thoroughly tested on wednesday!

  8. nothing seems to happen when i've tried it, can't really see the point of it being there, unless it's a function of being able to return you to where you were.

    i noticed you run your lexus as a taxi; are your punters impressed, or are they like most pedestrians, who wouldn't notice the difference between a lexus and a vectra!!

  9. not having this problem on my LS400, i've asked myself what i would do if i did - how about you carefully clean the mirrors FIRST, using minimal amount of water or just a damp cloth, then stick a plastic bag completely over each mirror with masking tape? remove bag and tape after car is dry. if this doesn't work, tell me where to go!!
