  1. If this is not a mistake at the parts dept, they must be having a laugh. If not, it's another Lexus rip off. Why have they failed? I have a 1990 merc 230e, the backplates are still good. On my LS one side rusted through and I repaired it, told no longer available, but still some in Japan and the USA. Overpriced for inferior quality!
  2. If you adjust it yourself don't lean or press any tool against the bottom of the screen where it is covered, it goes below the weatherstrip usually. Easy to lever against wiper arm and crack the screen [No I haven't done it but I know someone who did!]
  3. Don't know about 430's, but check if there is a switch near the lock that has been moved out of position or disconnected The bonnet is linked to the alarm system on my 400, the alarm may 'think' the bonnet is open
  4. I'm not convinced! In fifty years I've never heard noise from a flywheel unless it was damaged. Clutch and gearbox should be designed to stand the stresses in the first place. As you can see from the prices it's likely to be a four figure money spinner.
  5. Sounds like a noisy thrust bearing for the clutch
  6. Another stupid unneccesary design idea, certain to fail, and replacement prices are a rip off for the owner. Not just Lexus, a friend and I replaced one for a solid one on a BMW Z3 last Sunday. The best of a bad idea was a solid replacement kit for £299, make Valeo. Even included all new bolts. Someone on Ebay is offering a solid one, lightweight custom made, for £500 . [Not including the plate etc] If it was my car I would go for this,[ if it's for the right model] if you go original DMF it will fail again!
  7. Engines with hydraulic tappets sometimes start with a rattle if they are worn and the oil is draining out of them, or during start up until the oil pressure builds up. Make sure your oil and filter are spot on, no old sludgy oil etc.
  8. I was always told 'running in' polished up bearing surfaces to prolong their life. Polishing metal needs a light touch and a fair speed, so no allowing the car to labour when climbing hills, change down to keep the engine running freely, light throttle at all times until 'run in' say 1500 miles. Automatics will change down anyway. Although modern engines and lubricants have made this less critical, for me it's still good engineering practice, along with regular oil changes.
  9. I was fancying a new radio/big screen satnav unit, anyone done this?
  10. If it continues, change to another known brand of oil before changing the car! Say 10w-30 grade
  11. Possibly something to do with fluid pressure needing to build up from cold, do you think?
  12. If the trans fluid level is correct, I would put it down to the cold. Let it idle a few minutes, then put the selector through all positions before setting off.
  13. Fancy that I was in the American car club many moons ago [a lot of moons]! Iv'e had an early Camaro, a Ford LTD, and first was an old Dodge Royal, built like a tank. To jack it up you just hooked the jack under the front bumper. [try that now!] Dashboard was just like a juke box! Happy cheap petrol days!! Best of luck to you...
  14. Get rid of the battery surround and get the biggest you can get in there!
  15. This seems the typical main dealer service. If they guess at swapping a few really expensive parts and it doesn't work, they give up and it's sod the owner! This is not just Lexus as other people have posted with similar treatment Whatever happened to motor engineers? I think maufacturers have too many models and mechanics never get fully familiar with them all. If the answer doesn't come up on the computer they are lost. We don't need a mass of computers, apart from engine management, most things will work with just a simple relay for switching things on and off, opening windows etc. Now it all has to go through a £500 computer system, linked to three more with 20 IC's on each do the same thing. Many a good car is now scrapped because some unnessary electronic gadget costs more than the car is worth, or so called main dealers cannot fix them Who said I was a Luddite!.....wait and see!
  16. Sounds like time to clean the throttle body.......
  17. Previous owner may have set a code, which you need to know and how to enter it.[owners handbook] Get it wrong 5 times and it's a dealer job to get it working again
  18. Happened to me years ago almost identical symptoms on a Ford Granada, the alternator belts were slipping, allowing the battery to slowly discharge.[ Lights on heater, wipers etc] I reckon the classic ps fluid in the alternator or complete battery failure
  19. I did this job on mine and it's a slow job with a lot of dismantling, certainly not nice in the winter unless you have a heated garage. I would have paid £160 no problem if the mechanic was a good 'indie' and recommended.
  20. Looks great, nice in a tight parking spot, but if it sticks open on a snowy night.......
