  2. Grief, and I thought the BMW ones were bad from the dealers - same theory though, use once but £2.50 online of the local tame autofactor!!! Talking of BMW, I've just come off the back of 3 years of owning an e30 325 Touring, very different car, however is there a Lexus equivalent of www.realoem.com ??? I've found BMW dealers much happier to deal with you buying legacy parts if you have a part number and just say I want this number please. Regards Iain PS I've already found the warp drive engage position for the throttle pedal :D ETA Went for a run a moment ago, at full brightness the needles other than the rev counter are fine; when dimmed the speedo still flickers. Any pointers before I take the panel out again, is the lighting via filament bulb, LED or other and controlled via a traditional resistor or PWM or other? Regards Iain Hi and welcome Apparently the needles are cold cathode[whatever that is] and appearently work at quite a high voltage.
  3. Welcome to rip off Britain! Recent insurance hike for women as it was claimed to be sexist to not charge the same rate men pay...but I thought insurance was based on your risk factor, good risk or bad risk not on your s*x! Another sly stealth tax.....why did no motoring organisation dispute this? Note 'road tax' is now car tax, as hardly any of it is spent on the roads!
  4. When it's sorted go with the Toyota red coolant, when I did the timing belt and removed hoses all the aluminium parts were perfect with no corrosion at all. Also just check the big cooling fan is working correctly [ fluid coupling] the one behind the rad. not the two electric ones!
  5. Craigp, what series LS?/ model year? 1990 toyota celsior i believe its known as an ls400 also? First thing, if not already done so, check for a break in the wiring in the left trunk hinge. You will have to examine them closely as it may look good from the outside. Popular fault, causes all kinds of wierd problems
  6. If you can pinpoint the leak, try some 'Quicksteel'. When I had a bad leak on my old Merc. an AA man used this. It never leaked again,[years] and was OK when I sold it...
  7. would that cause the alloys to be hot to touch? Jack up car and check for brakes binding if very hot . There is normally some heat transfer to the wheels but not much. If no punctures have wheels checked for corrosion, preventing tyre from sealing.
  8. When you take it back, tell the mechanic your glad he's not working for Boeing..
  9. What part of the body is scrubbing? Andy thanks for helping it is the front bottom edge of bumper that scrapes regards leon Unless this is some weird air suspension problem, are you sure you got the correct front springs?
  10. 'Plenty of fluid', won't do, must be exact level! Should be pink,if it smells burnt or is very brown replace it. There is a linkage connected to the gear lever, look underneath while someone moves the lever and confirm it is connected and moves through all the positions. When in N the car should not start, if it does, the alignment for the inhibitor switch is wrong. The throttle cable setting is also important as the throttle position switch changes voltage as speed rises. If none of this is any use, the trans. has it's own diagnostic system and may show up some code. There are solenoids controlling the transmission as well as fluid pressure etc., complicated!!
  11. First job make sure enough trans fluid..vital. If OK check if gear lever fixing is loose or has moved, putting the selections in the wrong place.
  12. Stupid question..are all the CD's the right way up?
  13. If it continues to stick look on the USA LOC , mine was sticking and some one in the US listed the fault and a DIY fix. Worked for me...
  14. Actually, thats a thought - by doing a swap I'll be able to tell if its a bulb issue or the control unit. Check out Ebay if it's the bulb...
  15. Look for a break in the wiring in the L/H boot lid hinge. This will be an internal break, looking at the outside of the wire may not reveal it, if this is the problem...
  16. Don't know about series three, if you have a TA [traffic announcement] button on your radio turn it off, this may do it!! Thanks Roy, but tried it. I'm thinking it will be something like hold x-button when powering up, but "X" remains a mystery Try leaving the TA button off, then rescan the whole lot
  17. Don't know about series three, if you have a TA [traffic announcement] button on your radio turn it off, this may do it!!
  18. There was a popular fault on early LS's caused by a break in the wiring in the LH boot lid hinge. This caused weird trans and dash problems. Check this wiring first, before looking elsewhere!
  19. I have only series two LS, but the first thing coming to mind is the knock sensor...
  20. Assuming you have not connected it the wrong way round, just put a decent battery on it!
  21. My next step was going to be replacement cluster - so you've probably saved me the hassle, thank you. It does seem logical that there is some other impediment. I can't see this circuit needing a relay; so what could it be? Equally confused. Just to add to the confusion re Temp. gauge mystery, I have looked at the wiring diagram. It shows a yellow and green wire from the temp. sensor to the gauge VIA A RESISTOR on the board. This diagam is marked 'combination meter for Europe' and has wiring colours. HOWEVER further on in the book there is a large fold out NON COLOUR section marked 'combination meter for RHD' this shows the yellow and green going straight to the gauge WITHOUT the resistor. PICK ONE!!
  22. If the gauge goes to hot, the resistance at the sender should be low approx 25 Ohms, according to the manual. If all that checks out, are you being misled by a faulty thermostat stuck shut, and the gauge is showing correctly? Just a thought....
  23. Don't have an IS but did you check if the headlining is wet? Look for water leaking into the boot, check for wet carpets etc, something in the car is wet to cause lots of condensation, if the headlining is dry it's ulikely to be the sunroof. Check it drains anyway and look for stains etc, everywhere, suggesting leaks.
  24. Did you turn up temperatue to high? If so check the cabin temp sensor is clean...below the dash near your left knee approx, it has a little grille over it
