  1. In Hybrids there is NO starter motor and start of thermal engine is made with the intervention of one of the 2 electric motors that works with HV battery, 12 V does not have big currents to distribute, it mainly has to make services work.
  2. To all people who say GS is slow, my only suggestion is to try it, and if they like fast cars, try a GS 450h. Besides, GS engine has a 38.5 % of thermal efficiency at the top of gasoline solutions; when giving a look to performance it should be interesting to see also about real life mpg that other cars have. ES will have a better 0-60 mainly because it is lighter. About Vlady's question "why two" I don't know, but it's so, as I read from ES specs, but I suspect it's a "asian" habit because I experimented the same difference in many Hyundai I had.
  3. I have booked a test drive for when ES 300h will be available here, but not so sure to change my GS300h... About 0-63 times, alla Lexus (and also new ES) have times measure with TWO person aboard (driver and passenger), and this is the reason why real 0-63 are better; for instance , GS 300h has a 0-100 km/h given 9,2 seconds, and usually obtains 8,5. So, ES 300h should give a real 0-100 in about 8,2 seconds.
  4. If you keep the remote key near your car, the system is somewhat awake and there is more current so that the battery could be discharged after some days, so the suggestion to keep charge with a C-tek is valid, but it is a good suggestion to have keys far away.
  5. IS 300h is competitor for BMW 3 series Diesel, like GS 300h for 5 diesel too., and both are better.
  6. The question is simple: a premium brand makes car that makes , when your neighbour sees you own a new one, "Hey, that guy has more money than he needs/deserves" . So to be a brand premium , people have to think it is expensive, compared to alternative cars not premium. For instance, VW or SEAT are not premium because a premium buyer will choose Audi. About our favourite brand Lexus, yes it is premium, but only for people that know it is the luxury choice for Toyota people, and not all car drivers know it, so Lexus risk to be not recognized as a premium car, but only a "nice" car . And I love understatement, as typical premium car driver likes to scream to all world " I am a premium car driver, I have money you don't" even if often it is not true, premium car driver don't own actually their car. Of course to be premium a car has to be better in some way to other models, but if the brand is not premium the trick does not work, nobody will envy you if you buy the best flagship car with all bells and whistles made by Skoda (just to say one).
  7. The final purpose of the app is to help hybrid drivers in effective hypermiling controlling all data that are useful for efficient use, i.e. braking only in regenerative way not wasting energy and consuming pads, at the same time if someone likes to use the "push and glide" technique, it monitors with more precision the energy flow from and to battery, so that it' is easier to keep it near null. Another monitoring is about different phases of work of engine (S1, S2 etc. ) , and so on. The suggestion to give a look to videos is useful, while it is a good start to read the meaning of all symbols on screen with the 2 pages .pdf in download section of site.
  8. It's the best one accordingly to HA guys, I use another one, Vgate Icar2, the important is to have a good obd giving fast data, in their pages they talk also about quality of different models tested. At the beginning there are so many data and it could be a bit overwhelming, and I find more useful to be not distracted in driving to read the report and give a look to the pdf fast manual, to understand all symbols in main screen. Another important suggestion is to use a android device with no other apps working together, and old one also works well if free from other work to do.
  9. Not only for IS300h owners, but also for all Lexus hybrid drivers, I am writing only now about this android app , really not so new, but it's because at last I had the chance to try it on my GS 300h ( previously not in list of compatible hybrid cars), and it is really complete in telling hybrid cars drivers with HSD eCVT a lot of info monitoring the system to obtain the best mpg and general use. The android app has been created by amateur developers and it is totally FREE, and there is also a associated app to create a complete report of how you made your trip very useful to perfectionate (if you like ) your hypermiling technique, but it is useful also for curious people that like to know more about hybrids; you only need to use the app a good OBD BT interface that can be used with other famous apps, like Torque. My compliments again to the developers they deserve for the big work they did with Hybrid Assistant and Hybrid Reporter. Being a free software I think it's not against forum policy to give the link, as unluckily some bad people are spamming on market with app with similar apps trying to have advantage of work of others. http://hybridassistant.blogspot.com/p/about.html
  10. If you need a really bright illumination, you can use a white led strip like that blue one I used in my GS fixing it under the rubber insulation of trunk. MY led strip had already a bi-adhesive tape and I put also a blue led in fitting instead of white bulb.
  11. Give a look to 12V battery and if it's properly connected, if so may be it's time to change it, after all it is 6 years old. But having this happened after a service it could only need to tighten the battery terminals.
  12. The answer is "no". I have wifi hotspot and it works well (even if only in 3G), but to have connected services you need a cell phone with DUN protocol. There is also a DUN app emulation in android google market (BlueDUN) that can solve the problem if your android phone does not work, but I don't use it so after trial time I did not buy the app.
  13. I LOVE my GS 300h, and if you like a fast car and if you are not worried for LS mpg, GS 450h is wonderful even if a bit more fuel thirsty compared to a hybrid with 2.4 4 cylinders. LS is a great car, but something more suited for people that like to stay on rear seat with someone else driving 😉 At the moment I am waiting to try in September new ES 300h, but I am not so sure I will change my GS Premier.
  14. Not easy to determine the effects of ES arrival to European market to used GS prices. At the moment I see my GS in a superior segment comparing it to ES, but it seems that ES is "better" as new model; nonetheless there are some differences in levels and no 3.5 V6 engine, and this could be a problem for someone planning to trade in his 450h for an ES. GS will be a "rare" car, and this means difficult to sell but also that seller can ask a higher price. There is also another difference about full optional version "premier". At the moment it seems ES 300h will be sold also in FSport sauce, and that ONLY that one will have active dampers, while the premier (luxury?) will have other nice features but NO active dampers (no SPORT+ setting on mode selector). If so, the top version "premier" in GS300h is something "better" than "sport" one, while in new ES 300h it will be simply "different" . And all these doubts without talking about FWD and RWD. For sure new ES will have so many features non comparable to GS to leave space for a interesting market in used GS.
  15. For what I know, dark windows are allowed only in rear seats, but I don't know if this applies also for extra UE vehicles. For sure, you risk to be stopped by police often. Another forbidden mod is about lights, no blue ones and leds if not original.
  16. Try asking to some hi-fi car shop, may be they know where to buy components.
  17. Mark Levinson uses Harman Kardon components (ie. Samsung) , so if you dismount your woofer and search for a HK subowoofer may be you can find something that fits.
  18. The answer is I don't know, but I suspect that original Lexus part could be rather expensive 🙂. About work to do, it should not be too difficult.
  19. The suggestion to change rubber ring could solve the problem, provided that inspecting the woofer you see it's that ring damaged; it' s a common issue in "old" speakers and a good hi-fi repairer can do a good work; the alternative choice to change the whole subwoofer is good too, but probably more expensive and you need to find the original speaker, not so simple, even if it could be necessary if after inspection there are other faults making substitution necessary. If so, and not finding the original woofer, you have to mount another one with same diameter and electrical specs (at least same impedance and max power).
  20. I hoped it was something similar to consumer electronics knob, but it' s not; you could ask to your dealer to find the exact number for single item, or try finding by yourself giving a look to Lexus tech site paying for a time limited access and, once found , order it to a Lexus dealer.
  21. Can you put online a photo showing how is now? May be you could change the knob only.
  22. Years ago it happened more often with diesel engines. Sorry for my previous post but writing with cell phone made me quarrel with orthographic corrector.
  23. In this evenienze the right move is ti presa hard brake, brake are stronger than engine.
