I find most dashcam incidents are too trivial to post, someone cuts you up, doesn't go on green because they're having a shave or putting on makeup. It happens.

I very rarely react to the offenders.

exactly. the sole reason i put a dashcam is for accidents/parking. the rest, not worth my blood pressure.

  2. Good morning all,

So I got myself an Garmin 45 dashcam. I also ordered the hardwiring kit.

Halford say they will install for 30 quids.

So I went to Lexus dealer, who demanded 430 quids. why?

Yes they have to hide it under the trim and connect it to a fuse. All the videos I have seen takes about an hour top if you are lazy with a can of beer in one hand.

    How can they justify that?

  3. Hi Rob,

I am not an expert on cars or Lexus. But I do need a reliable motor.

I bought one 2012 model last year and have been driving it since then.

Car has now 88k on the clock.

I do around 330 miles a week, swindon <-> Cambridge, in between I use it for commuting to work and other social stuff. All together around 330 miles a week.

motorway speed (from 50-70 mph on 3 motorways, M4, M25, M11 and then Cambridge and vice versa) I average around 60-64 MPG - in normal mode. Commuting to work in town I use the sport mode, just to be nippy around roundabouts. it still use EV mode in slow traffic. MY MPG drops to 58 MPG if I do long stretches (tested it once in sport mode).

by the time I get home at the end of the week, I still have a quarter of the tank. Filling it up these days around £35-£40. For the above trip each week, it uses around <=30 litres.

it need servicing every 8 months based on the above trip. it has been serviced by Lexus Swindon.  no problems so far. You need to watch out for the brake discs. They wear out more than others. a pair cost me £500 including brake pads and other stuff (can't remember). it is not a frequent occurrence but it does happen more than other cars.

I bought it with Lexus extended warranty (includes excellent road side assistance and you can also add another driver for free), Lexus insurance, and I pay monthly for my services (3 yearly, one major and 2 minors services and MOTs). They all worked out cheaper for me than 3rd parties.

I have the one with Navigation, and it is hilarious :-) I have a funny accent, and the command Go Home becomes a search for Golf Club :-). it manages my phone pretty good and I can make and receive calls with excellent clarity.

in a build up areas such as Cambridge with large population of cyclists and in traffic you have to be extra careful and keep your distance as they cannot hear the car when it goes in EV mode, same goes for pedestrians and birds in the middle of the road.

    hope this helps.

Geeza don`t service car in Halfords, just get service plan from Lexus and split it to monthly instalments. After that drive and sleep well. Lexus is way complicated car to give it to halford blokes to service. My car is still on warranty and when it will expire I will get extended one from lexus and even if I had to change light bulb I will go to lexus. I think budget services are ok for average cars without warranties.

I agree, and this is exactly what I did after I learned a hard lesson (for being cheap) with my IS220d. never again. I bought service and extended warranty by instalments from Lexus.

Surely if you have the navigation system, every time the front sensors pick up an obstacle it is displayed on the screen. Did that not give you a clue?

I find it particularly useful when driving up and down ramps in tight multi-storey car parks

no. nothing on the navigation screen.

As others said, it seems to mostly object when obstacles are on the side. Like a bin for example, where I park near once a fortnight. I'll double check for the screen though, but I haven't noticed.

I think you may have got yourself slightly confused there.

Its based on mileage or time i.e 1 year/10k miles whichever comes first

Seriously, this is how they calculated my next 3 services. 1 minor, 1 major, 1 minor . based on my 15000 annual mileage, it is every 8 months for this car. Currently on 74K mileage.

  7. My dealer said, if you are doing 10000/year then it is annual, if you are doing less than 10000, probably eveyr 18 months. If you are doing >10000 then it is every 8 month. I don't know, as Wass explained, I need to maintain full service history.

  8. thanks Colin. that explains why sometimes it beeps and other times it does  not. Depending where the obstacles are. Also where i got confused and I did not know there were  front sensors, so I thought something is wrong with the car, why it is beeping :-)

  9. Hi All,

As you know (if you read this forum) I have bought a used Lexus CT 200H auto (navigation) 2012 model. I like the reversing parking sensors, However, I noticed that front have sensors too!!! if I am parking (not reversing) and come close to an obstacle it beeps like hell until I reverse about 1 foot from the obstacle. Is this normal? do they have front sensors or is something wrong with my car?

To be honest I haven't done much with the car except driving as I am a little busy to enjoy it yet.

  10. when I collected my car (about 3 week ago) they said there are 2 recalls outstanding, one is the charcoal thingy and the other is to do with bags. Both were done before delivery.

TLC normaly means Tender Loving Care.

haaahahaa... first thing that came to my mind was the yogurt advert (I think) .. then I thought I am being silly, it is something more technical ... :yahoo: I did give it a good clean after those photos. every corner was cleaned. I was actually surprised how clean it is, like when you open the doors, spotless, all the metal and hinges are spotless, I think Lexus gave it a good clean.

I am still learning which mode to drive. So far I only used normal, on M4 jct 15 to jct 5 it hit 58mpg going 70-80 mph. EV is good when I am stuck in town, eco mode, briefly, it is slow to respond but I haven't given it a good run it. I enjoy driving in sport .. really good fun ... but still did not give it a good run ... I will though as I go Swindon-Cambridge-Swindon once a week over M4-M25-M11-M25-M4. I'll give it a good test :yucky:

Nice one! Is it me or do the seats need a little TLC?

what do you mean by TLC? sorry for ignorance :-) the seats looks fine as new. I imagine you mean they need reupholstering or something?

I think it is the colour and the angle. They look pristine and no sagging. if that what you mean?
