  1. I'm sure that's very informative Noby but as soon as you start talking about 170N/M of torque and the like I get totally lost!! I don't know what N/M of torque means and now I'm very confused lol So basically.. it's not vvti kicking in, it's a valve that opens on the exhaust at 3800rpm that gives you better acceleration. So it must be possible to just have the valves open all the time giving the more responsive throttle throughout the rev range.
  2. Hi and welcome :) Impressive list of cars you've owned. As for increasing power in your 200, only forced induction will give you any power gains. So supercharger or Turbo. Both options are gonna cost upwards of £2k
  3. Can I just ask, and sorry if this is a stupid question, but why? I don't understand why you want an exhaust from a 200 on a 220d?
  4. So in a nut shell....it's a yes then Noby, you can get that lift ( valve opening whatever) all the way through the rev range?
  5. I'm no expert so apologies if this is rubbish but ive read somewhere and I think it was Ormi who said it but you can apparently get the lift you get at 4000rpm (vvti, ACIS, whatever you want to call it) to kick in all the way through the rev range. I've noticed when overtaking it's sluggish until 4000rpm so getting the 'lift' all the way through the rev range would be good but I fear the MPG would suffer.
  6. The cam belt change is not 10 years. Its 100,000 miles that's what Lexus recommended but its not always what Lexus dealers will indicate. There is no reason whatsoever to change a cam belt after 10 years if it has done less than say 60,000 miles. They wear on use they dont deteriorate by standing still in these time frames. The maintainence schedule for Lexus indicates a change only on mileage (100,000 miles) and not on any time frame., Not sure about that. Is the SC timing belt made from some special material that doesn't deteriorate? My service book for my IS also says 100k no indication of time. But I asked Lexus and they said 10 years, change it, as it does deteriorate over time.
  7. Hi and welcome :) Enjoy your new car
  8. I'd agree with above. I used to use 100k as a bench mark to get rid of any car I've ever owned buty last Honda and now my Lexus has changed my opinion. If you go on the US LOC they have stories of IS300's going over 300k with no problems
  9. Congratulations :) As for the bulbs gone behind the centre console, could be a PITA. Some of them require soldering to change.
  10. Thanks a lot for all your advice Matt. It's good to get the information from somebody in the trade who knows what their talking about. Yeah people are very quick to complain and get in the Internet and slag people off. I'm a head chef and I have to put up with dam Tripadvisor! I serve over 1000 meals per week and get very few complaints, in fact can't remember the last one but if you look at tripadvisor you would be forgiven for thinking I'm not a very good chef because the 1% that maybe do have a reason to complain will voice their opinions on tripadvisor as they need somewhere to vent. Yet the other 99% happy customers are less inclined to tell people of their good experience on tripadvisor. As for the OCD remark, again your right I'm just one of those overly fussy people as are most chefs. I obviously don't suffer from OCD, it was just a tounge in cheek remark which if I caused offence, I apologise as you seemed to react to that comment.
  11. Hi and welcome. Recognise your car from Facebook :) I'm the one who asked why you had no alloys! Lol...
  12. Nonsense about the sensors. Who told you that? Agree with everything already said. :)
  13. Thanks Matt. Yeah Auto Glass said everything's covered and none of this will cost me anything or affect my insurance. So yeah as I thought its just poorly fitted screens that leak. The only reason I started the thread is that before I owned the Lexus I'd had a couple of windscreens replaced and they never leaked but sinced I joined this forum there seems to be a lot of stories regarding leaking new windscreens. Thanks for all your contributions everybody. I will be asking for OEM glass tho... I'm a little OCD and want it stamped with Lexus lol!
  14. Thanks for the replies. I'm not going to the dealer Stu as they only get a company (prob auto glass) to come and fit the windscreen anyway. They don't fit glass. Also it's all totally free for me through my insurance without affecting anything on my premium if I use Auto glass. I will however take the advice of going to Auto glass rather than them come to me. So I guess it's pot luck if you get a decent fitter or a cowboy! Keep your fingers crossed for me guys! Lol....
  15. Thanks Stu, they look excellent mate! Can't wait to get mine done. I think I'll use the same place you did now. Don't know what I'm going to do all day in Cwbran? Never been there before. Hopefully there's a golf course near. :)
  16. Hi guys. I had a Stone chip repaired by auto glass 6 months ago and all has been well until this morning. Half way to work a crack appeared from the repair and is now getting bigger. It was about 1cm this morning and looks about 2-3cm now. I called auto glass up and they say I need a new windscreen. Now I'm very reluctant to do this as we've all read the horror stories of water in fuse boxes and all the electrical problems that comes after having a new windscreen fitted? Any advice please people? Are the horror stories after poor installations or is it gonna happen even if the job is done to the highest level? Thanks in advance.
  17. Lol some of those names are comical. Just getting in my Luxel IS200
  18. LS400 made in Derbyshire!!! Haha that guy knows nothing about Lexus obviously. I hope you put him straight....
  19. I heard the 'luxury export to US' theory as well. The official line is that it doesn't mean anything but denotes a luxurious and technological image.
  20. This is an after pic anyway... The lights were a horrible yellow before, I promise :)
  21. Ok guys, forget the cleaning kits on eBay and the like. I've just spent 10 mins with the brasso and the difference is unbelieavable!! I was sceptical but wow!! Wish I had taken some before and after pictures....
  22. Why did that post 3 times?? Sorry I only clicked post once Sorted for you Chris.
