  1. So as a few of you know my current standard number plate is a little bit GAE! Lol... IanS200 daughter took great delight at our last meet calling me gay car all day  she's not the first and my mates give me stick about it all the time so enough is enough! This morning I had a bit of a impulse buy while looking at private reg plates. I bought for £399 the reg C5 CBX. It's sort of my name (Chris Box) and the 5 represents my birthday. Overall I'm very happy, never had a private reg before :)
  2. You could get a sport grill from Lexus Birmingham UK eBay shop. They'll ship it to SA for not a lot more money :)
  3. Nope definitely not standard mate, or at least I don't have one in my car and I've never heard of a switch there before.
  4. Your could be an Irish IS200. They had Different spec levels when sold over there. That could explain why you have an LSD but no other sport trim such as pedals and window tints.
  5. I'm just astounded at how much road tax you pay!! There'd be a riot over here if they tried to charge us that much. I'm sorry bit I think £2800 a year tax is nothing short of robbery!
  6. Doesn't sound like anything on mine. A pic would be good :)
  7. Congrats on the purchase :) With regards to the clutch, unless it's slipping it's fine. You might experience some clutch judder when pulling away, pretty normal too. Stop looking for problems with your new car. Case of new car paranoia I think
  8. Yeah nobody sells something that is worth £2k for £1k. You'll get £2k all day long for a full TTE charger kit in good condition
  9. Mate come on, what's more expensive, you popping down to halfords and getting a new battery for £80 or a garage having to replace you alternator and you have to pay labour charge? I think I know why the garage says you need a new alternator. Business for them isn't it. Oh and the recovery bloke said it was the battery and i would be more inclined to believe him as he has no other agenda such as making money from you. Sounds just like you got a flat battery and batteries start to die after about 5 years. Pop a new battery on and then if your car does die again then look at the alternator.
  10. Haha pete, so why would all IS's have the 2 domes? Wouldn't really be cost effective to fit every IS and altezza that came off the line with gps antenna but then only fit a very small percentage of them with sat nav. Lol No they are definitely climate control sensor and auto headlight sensor :)
  11. Bad news :( Call the dealer and ask who they use for minor repairs and spraying. I bet they use a good company who can match the paint etc perfectly :)
  12. Just finishing work prob Matt. Up all night relieving people of their hard earned belongings, cars etc....
  13. Def looks like a scam Matt. I've just emailed them to ask why it's so cheap? Wonder if I get a response? Not going to hold my breath
  14. Cos you read somewhere that this is the price of a windscreen, must be true then. Think you'll find it's a bit more than that. I think fitting a windscreen is a bit more complicated than changing brakes pads, disks and engine oil. The advice you have been given by members here and an actual professional windscreen fitter who does this for a living day in and day out and who's opinion should be taken 100% is do not do it yourself! You've seen a video and you've changed brakes and oil so that qualifies you does it? I don't think so mate. What if you don't fit it correctly? Huge possibility of this happening as you've never done it before. For all you know the screen could blow in while your driving down the motorway or fall outwards under heavy braking. There have also been a few incidents of badly fitted windscreens on an IS leaking even when done by the professionals. Then water getting into electrics and causing major headaches! Thing is if it's done by a proffesional company and it leaks then you have a guarantee and they are liable. Do it yourself and it leaks and screws the electrics, all you've done is create more problems for yourself!
  15. I think you'd be mad to change the windscreen yourself! Listen to Matt, by the time you've bought everything you need you may as well have paid for somebody to do it.
  16. As Ian says the two round domes are the sensors for your auto headlights and your air con temp sensor, not the receiver for the key fob as most people think
  17. What does it say on your V5 document? It will either say Lexus IS200 Sport, Lexus IS200 SE or just Lexus IS200 if it's an S model. It does t sound like a sport to be honest, sounds very much like an SE with no alloy pedals, window tints etc... The Sport has a Torsen LSD by the way. Of you want a definite answer simply call your local Lexus dealer and give them the reg. Theyll tell you exactly what model it is.
  18. Hi and welcome to LOC. Yeah the 'thud' your hear is normal apparently. I can get it to not thud by nursing it into gear and being very soft on the clutch, letting it out very slowly. You could say this car has changed my driving style
  19. I think that would constitute a certain standard and if the book is stamped. Basically I think a certain standard is to follow the service schedule. They might try to wrangle out of it as they're not Lexus services but as I said just challenge them and don't give up. They will fold I'm sure lol :) I think if the car hadn't seen a service since 20 or 30k and no history or stamps in the book then I think Lexus might tell you to jog on as the car has clearly not been maintained.
  20. The meet I went to was a week last Sunday but there are cars up the gorge most Sunday evenings. Couple of idiots in 200SX's and a 300zx spinning donuts and drifting up the gorge but most of us parked up, lit a BBQ and chilled chatting about cars. Even the police left us alone, only 1 cop car drove by all evening. :)
  21. The official line from Lexus is it has to be a full Lexus service history. But I've read many threads now where people have got the engine replaced under warranty as long as there is evidence of the car being maintained to a certain standard, i.e. non Lexus service history. Depending on what dealer you go to you may have to fight with them a little but persevere, it is a well known design fault and as your car has been maintained albeit not by Lexus, I still think you have a very strong case.
  22. No that's not a main dealer. You think it is because the pics are outside Lexus Hatfield. The seller is lookers motors. The first pic of the 4the gen GS even has a banner behind it saying lookers. Then the rest of the pics are of an 07 plate 3rd Gen GS outside Lexus Hatfield. Yet another reason why this advert stinks! Lol...
