  1. Hmmm all the early warning signs of a head gasket failure! I second normski2.
  2. Think they were just trying their luck fella. Nice one, glad you got it sorted. Enjoy your lex, looks a cracker :)
  3. This doesn't make pleasant reading for me as I too have a number plate bulb out. If its that much of an head ache I'll take halfords up on their offer of fitting it :)
  4. Insist the car has 4 matching tyres or pull out of the sale. Your not making a big deal. I would be livid if it were me. I always have the four corners of my car running the same rubber.
  5. Yeah it's easy. But you don't want to do that as the codes will be erased. Although if the fault is there the lights will prob come straight back on. If the ECU is not registering a fault after the light comes on then the lights turn themselves off after starting the car 3 times and then stores the codes as history. For example I had a leaky fuel injector which would cause the car to run on once every 3-4 weeks or so. The ECU would then register a misfire and next time I started the car the engine light would be on and TRC flashing. When I turned the ignition off and on again 3 times the lights would go out and the ECU would store the misfire code as history not present. if the fault was there permanently then the lights would not have gone out. To reset either disconnect the battery for about 30 or so minutes or remove the ECU fuse for a bit. This will reset the ECU. Honestly I suggest you get the codes before you reset. It will also give you an insight to the history of the car and what went wrong with it before :)
  6. No I didn't get that option as I was too far over the limit. You only get the speed awareness course option if you a few mph ove the limit. I was 25mph over the limit and only 1 mph away from an automatic ban!
  7. You'll need to get it to a garage that can connect. You need an OBDII Reader to read the codes. Most garages should be able to do this otherwise buy yourself a reader from eBay for about £20-30 quid. There's a list of codes on this forum when you have them, just search for it. Otherwise a trip to a Lexus or Toyota dealer will set you back about £50 for them to read it but the advantage of that is they'll tell you exactly what's wrong with it.
  8. Yeah it's throwing up a fault code then. It's pure guess work without the fault codes. Without them it's impossible to diagnose especially as the car is running fine.
  9. Hey guys. I've been in Italy for 8 days now and the 1 thing I've noticed is Lexus cars are as rare a rocking horse poo! I've seen the grand total of 4 and I've been up and down the motorway between Rome and Naples every day. I've seen 1 CT200h, 2 RX's and an old battered up GS300. No IS or LS. Also I've seen a few Toyota dealerships but no Lexus yet there are Lexus adverts on the TV so they are sold here. I wonder why Lexus don't sell here? I've seen the usual number of BMW's, Mercs and Audi's but the most common by far are Alfa's, Fiats and Lancia which to be fair is expected. The reason I'm so curious is myself and the wife may be moving here after Christmas and we both drive Lexus and love our cars. If we were to move here then I'd sell our cars and we would want to buy Lexus but that's looking like an impossibility!! :(
  10. Haha Matt I wish mate! I meant its a company for old men not my old mans company! Still not told them I got done for speeding. Will do it when my licence gets back. I'm in Italy for the next 3 weeks on buisness anyway.
  11. This is normally linked to your engine management light also being on. Is yours not on? Need to get it on a diagnostic I would have thought.
  12. Oh yeah and my car is parked on a driveway 1 mile down a private road. I think all this together helps :)
  13. I'm with esure. I'm 33, been driving since I was 17. I've never claimed on a policy ever and have been with esure since I was 30. I also live in rural Wiltshire where the crime rate is so low if somebody stole a pen it would make the news! Lol... I pay £44 a month fully comp with breakdown and glass cover. I'm very happy with my policy! :)
  14. This happened to me with my old Honda! Locksmith could break the boot lock but not the door locks. Had to get a replacement boot lock from Honda after he broke in. Not that much of a hassle and less hassle than smashing windows! Prob be the same with the Lexus :)
  15. He sold it mate..... 2.5k!!!!!! What a bargain! If i knew it would be let go for that I would have had it...... seriously!!
  16. My fuel gauge is the same. Although if the light is on it goes out if i put a tenner in but the needle doesn't move. So I don't worry unless the light is on :)
  17. This thread has been very informative guys thanks. When I had my cambelt changed at Lexus I asked them why my front tyres were wearing quicker on the inside and all they told me was it must be my style of driving and the way I take corners! Playing dumb I guess cos I bet they know their geometry set up us wrong but don't tell us customers that. A trip to Milton Keynes is gonna be coming up then. I'm lucky my cousin lives there so I can stay with him.... No more changing tyres prematurely for me! Happy days! :)
  18. Def a second generation IS. That looks like he was pulling into a car park so what the hell was he doing at a speed that could catapult him over other parked cars and into a house!! Crazy!! Does show how safe they are tho :)
  19. I have the exact same problem. Is it not a hassle to disconnect the electric motors and the seat heaters and then reconnect them?
  20. Absolute bargain!! I still think £3k is nearer what it's worth as you say it needed nothing doing and was in mint condition. Somebody got a real good deal!
  21. Hi and welcome :) Yes it is possible but you really should get the codes read before you do it so you know what fault is being thrown up. If the fault is still there after re setting it will only come back on again until you fix the fault. Also if it's on and then the car doesn't throw up the fault code anymore then it will clear itself after re starting the car 3 times. To clear either disconnect the battery for a bit or take out the ECU fuse. Leave it for half hour or so then pop it back in and the light will have gone.... Until the next time it throws up a fault code which could be straight away.
