  1. Hello and Welcome :) I love my IS200 Sport, enjoy your new car. Some pics would be good.
  2. If you fluid isn't low then I'd guess it's either the belt or pump causing the steering to stiffen up.
  3. Go through the 100's of threads on this forum about IS220d head gasket problems and EGR valve Problems and then make your mind up if you want the diesel! :)
  4. The fluid is meant to last the life of the car say Lexus but I changed mine. There's a guide to doing it on YouTube but I can't find it right now. You need dexron II or Dexron III automatic transmission fluid. Dex II is blue and Dex III is red. It doesn't matter which u use and u can also mix them. Maybe yours have been mixed with top ups so that's why it's gone black.
  5. I'm afraid not mate. We have the same problem. My wife only has 1 spare valet key for her IS200. No master key! Ive been through this at length with Lexus. You cannot code another key to the car without a working master key. You can cut a new key from a valet but you can't code it to the immobiliser or door locks so it's useless! Won't start the car. To check if a key is a master put it in the ignition. The red security light on the dash will go out immediately if a master. If its a valet key the red light will stay on for 2-3 seconds.
  6. No mate I,m afraid this isn't a master key and your kinda screwed without one. The master key has 3 buttons. You can only programme another key to your car from an existing master key so no you can't get another master or even another spare key. The car would have originally have had 2 master keys and 3 spare 'valet' keys. Sorry for the bad news but the only way to get new keys for you would be to change the ECU, door locks and ignition barrel and this is at a cost of £2000 from Lexus. And this is what you would have to do if you lost your only key. :(
  7. No it doesn't look right, doesn't look like mine but I'm no expert. Don't mess about with the cambelt is my advice, I'd change it if it was worrying me and if they was my belt I'd change it for sure :)
  8. Can't really tell from looking fella. I've seen a lot worse. There is a thread on here with a pic of a cambelt that was no more than 2cm wide!! You could tell that was worn! Only way to tell is by how long it's been since it was changed last. It should be done every 6 years or 60 thousand miles :)
  9. 3-4 hours at Lexus. They also gave my car a good look over, advised me the auxiliary belts were a little worn but no pressure to get them to carry out the work and also my brake pads were low on the back. Also my car came back cleaned inside and out and all the glass and believe me it was really dirty! Also put a complementary air fresher in there for me :) lol
  10. For me yes. It's pretty much the most important part under your bonnet. But it's your call. All depends how much you trust the other garage. With my IS I got the cambelt done and the 100k service done at Lexus. Everything else I use a local garage :) The service I've had at dealerships is superb. They even call you the afternoon before your cars booked in asking what newspaper and coffee you like while you wait for your car :)
  11. The Lexus quote does include tensioner and idler. It's what I paid for mine at Lexus Swindon. :)
  12. Do you mean absolutely brand new? No previous owners and less than 50 miles on the clock and on a 62 plate?
  13. Well at least you got to the bottom of it at last! And it's a free repair! Happy days :) I knew those codes would be in the ECU ;)
  14. Yes but your first post didn't state what car you drive. Not all of us are aware you drive an IS-F! :)
  15. Ok, if they have an OBD2 code reader then they have one that doesn't :- A. Read manufacturer specific codes B. Doesn't read stored history codes Lexus or Toyota will be able to read the codes for you and give you a diagnostic as will most garages to be fair. My garage reads Lexus/Toyota codes just fine. Once you get the fault codes, which believe me are stored on your cars ECU then you will know what triggered the lights to come on. :)
  16. Mine flew through the MOT too a few weeks ago.... 90k, 11 years old! Great cars! :)
  17. My bee sting aerial on my IS200 has snapped leaving half the screw in the base on the roof of the car and half the screw in the aerial. I've just bought a new base and aerial off eBay for £15. Lexus wanted over £100!!! How easy is it to fit myself? To me looks complicated as I think I'll have to remove the roof lining on the inside. Anybody else successfully attempted this? Thanks Chris
  18. I had the CT200h on 48 hour test drive about 6 months ago. My wife and I were going to both sell our IS200's and share the CT and buy brand new (something neither of us have ever done) We still both drive our old IS200's..... We hated it except for the fuel consumption obviously! Lol :)
  19. It's not that strange. For example I had a leaky fuel injector. Every month or so it would drop petrol into the cylinder after I turned the ignition off and cause the car to run on. That would then trigger the ECU to detect a misfire so sending the engine light on. It wasn't a permanent fault and the computer realised that and after 3 cycles turns the light out. I think it's a clever system as the codes are stored so you can work out what's going on without worrying that there is something major at fault.
  20. If the fault doesnt register again with the ECU after 3 engine on/off cycles then the fault is no longer there and will be stored as history in the ECU and the lights will go out. Get the codes read and you can find out what caused the lights to come on in the first place :)
  21. I'm saving for an IS-F. Should become affordable for me in about 5 years :)
  22. I had a rattle in exact the same position. After months of trying to work out what it was it turned out to be the battery holder was slightly loose causing the rattle. Prob not that but just check that the battery is totally secure and all fittings etc are secure. I also read an old thread on here where the rattle was the plastic cover over the positive connection on the battery was loose.
  23. My 200 is rough on sainsburys or morrisons petrol, purrs on shell or esso. Can't be coincidence....
