  1. I'm with you on this one Petay. I'm sure the OEM one is better but I can't pay over a ton for it! Very interested to see your follow up. I'll hold off buying it until we get your verdict :)
  2. I don't understand it either! Wierd. But your winning :) yours is only 32 and an import and the LS is 48!! Do you think its because yours is a Toyota not a Lexus, same car I know but do they know that or are they only going by the name they see on their computer? Also 48 seems really high to me...My boss's 5.0 Jag XK is group 48 and that is one seriously quick car and worth £70k!
  3. I thought that about the armrest until I drove my mates IS300. Now I have to have one but they go for silly money!
  4. Yeah what Steve said. Also Your battery will go to 14V as the alternator will charge it while running. Next time check the voltage before you start the engine. Just turn the key once so the dash lights up and the volt meter should go between 9 and 10. If its below that it will struggle to start. The thing with the lights is the same on mine. I have a brand new battery. I think this is normal :)
  5. You need to kick up a bit more of a fuss I think. I have a 2001 IS and my lights never get condensation. I can't believe that's normal as the dealer says! The only time I've experienced this was last winter on my sisters 1989 ford escort! Lol...
  6. That's a good price for V power. I just filled up on Total 97 RON thinking it would be a bit cheaper than shell or esso ( I didn't check their prices ) but it was £1.45 per litre. Doh!! :(
  7. Who was it serviced by? Was it at Lexus or a Lexus specialist? If so I wouldn't do anything, I'd get the oil and filter changed 10k since last service and that's it. If it was serviced by anybody else then I personally would put it in for a full service. But that's just me, mine was supposedly full services 3k miles ago when I bought it but I noticed they didn't do the brake fluid, diff oil, spark plugs or cabin filter so I got it fully serviced for peace of mind. It's your call really :)
  8. I'd second that. It looks like the dent I had in the corner of my Honda after watching some little old lady plough her trolley into it in Asda!
  9. So you got 400 miles from under a full tank? I think it's a 70 litre tank, correct me if I'm wrong. I would say that's superb! My last long trip I got 400 miles from a FULL tank, mostly motorway using 99RON fuel and before that I got 330 miles from a full tank running on 95 RON. Again mostly motorway. What grade fuel was in there?
  10. matt do some research before you start typing ok. http://www.lexus.com.bh/technology_explorer/acoustic_control_induction_system_ACIS.asp?model=All Interesting! Never heard of ACIS before...
  11. Very rare front bumper! I'm a little jealous as I wanted one in blue! Lol...
  12. Oh ok. I thought the VVTi was permanently on too until I read some stuff on this forum and a lot of people say it doesn't kick in till 4200rpm.
  13. Beware tho I've heard horror stories of people reconnecting with the positive last and they blew all the electrics! Proper mess such as dash instruments never reading correct again! Remember always start with the black and end with the black!! ;)
  14. Well if you are meant to then whoops cos I didn't! Lol... :) I just did a straight swap fella. My car is fine.
  15. Hi there and welcome. The car is indeed a 6 cylinder car, inline 6. It's not a fast car and I agree it is pretty sluggish off the start due to its weight but soon starts to shift when in second above 4200rpm. VVTi kicks in at 4200rpm and you can feel it when it does. I find the performance acceptable but it is the slowest car I've owned in the last 10 years. Saying that however it is by far the best car I have ever owned. The purpose of the inline 6 engine was for refinement and smoothness not speed. :) I'm pretty sure your Kenwood system is not standard. The IS200 standard system is an in dash 6 CD changer and isn't a brand. Mine says "Lexus premium sound system" on it. Sounds like yours has been removed and replaced with the Kenwood.
  16. Hi and Welcome. I also have owned 3 series BMW's in the past. The IS is a much better car in my opinion. :) What do you mean it's loud? It's supposed to be a very quiet, refined car. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust or is your exhaust blowing?
  17. Mines fine at the mo. the leak is so small it's not worth bothering with. I'll decide what to do if it gets worse but I normally replace parts rather than repair as I figure I'll just have to replace it eventually :) Def don't put water in but you should get some coolant in there straight away. Top it to about a centimeter under the full marker. When the engine is hot this will go up to full. Monitor it for a couple of days to see how much you are losing.
  18. If you look at the back of the radiator then you'll see the coolant reservoir. It has a gauge on it showing min and max levels. Mine sits at just under full when cold and bang on the full mark when warm. Mine also looses coolant, about a centimeter on the gauge every couple of weeks. I know where the leak on mine is tho as it leaves a pink residue where the leak is in the top corner. I'm just topping up until it gets bad enough to need a new radiator. When I first got the car the coolant was well below min but still ran perfect and the temp gauge sat just under half. When you take the metal radiator cap you should be able to see the coolant at the surface. There's another plastic cap to the left, on top of the radiator to fill the coolant, it's marked coolant :)
  19. All I know is that I get 300 miles from from a tank of sainsburys normal 95 RON, 330 miles using esso normal 95 RON and a massive 400 miles if I use anything higher than 97 RON. So I use 97-99RON in my IS. :)
  20. Also of its £666 for a service, cambelt and water pump then I'd say that's a good price from a Lexus dealer. :)
  21. Ahh now you didn't say it was tied in with a cambelt change. £666 for cambelt and water pump at Lexus sounds about right. So is that £666 including cambelt or is the cambelt on top of the £666?
  22. Was that a Lexus dealer? That's double what it should be. DONT PAY THAT! What a rip off!! . If it is a lexus dealer ask to see the book time and cross reference this agsinst how much the hourly labour charge is. Normally about £100-£110 per hour for a Lexus main dealer. Had mine done at Lexus Bristol. £154 for the part. 1.9 hour book time to change so about £200 in labour. Total bill for me was £360! You can even get the water pump as cheap as £80 on eBay and that's for a genuine Toyota/Lexus part. Just got to find someone to fit it for a good price :)
  23. Oh yeah and if their carrying out the 60k service for you then I would want the cambelt, tensioner and idler done as well. It's a big job, an independent will charge £250+ and Lexus are around £350.
