  1. Update: Between Christmas and foreign business trips, I have only just managed to get the car to the dealer for a closer look at my car (and a scheduled service). The car was taken to the body shop they normally use, and said body shop called me earlier this afternoon advising that the front bumper could not be repaired as it was distorted in places and in particular where it meets the wing. It would need to be replaced at a cost of £1,000. *Gulp*. Should I phone the insurance or not? Do I want to spend £1,000 of my own money on a 6 yo bumper? Thankfully, their call was soon followed by one from the dealer who said that they were not convinced that the bumper needed replacing and that they would get quotes from at least one other workshop. I'll wait for the next call and in the meantime continue to enjoy the Azure Blue courtesy NX I have been driving all week. Very comfortable, but I have to admit that the NX 300h feels rather noisy and slow in comparison with my RX and I continue to wonder whether the 200T will make a more suitable replacement....
  2. Interesting post in the sense that my wife reported the same issue with our RX450h when I talked to her yesterday (I am currently in northern California). She was saying that, not only there is condensation inside the car, but also that the inside of the windscreen was frozen. The only explanation I could offer was that she's only been driving short journeys over the past few days, all with 2 or 3 teenagers + dog in the car, and that the car had not had the chance to fully warm up to get rid of any residual damp.
  3. 1. yes, I believe that this is the case 2. yes, when the battery within the key is due for a replacement. The signal from the battery/key may be too weak
  4. I like the colour combination. You don't see this interior colour very often.
  5. As much as I like the CT I would not recommend it as a family car, especially with three children who are no doubt growing. The car is simply too small. I would recommend a Toyota Prius which is much bigger... but also cheaper... if you can live with the looks!
  6. Comparing prices across countries is a rather pointless exercise because there are too many parameters to consider: - model specs (as well as drivetrain choice) varies tremendously from one market to another, with some equipment being optional in some, but mandatory in others - cost of transport depending on where the car is built vs where it is being sold - local taxes (including import taxes, road taxes, pollution taxes, fuel taxes and general cost of ownership) - exchange rate - local wealth - cost of cars relative to local income - cost of left-hand-drive to right-end-drive conversions, or vice-versa - local competition - brand and model popularity - cars tend to be more expensive (with less standard equipment) in their home markets: patriotism sells! - I remember looking at buying a BMW whilst living in Germany in the late 90s. Electric windows, tinted windows and central locking were still optional extras!
  7. I think both are worth having. The HUD is brilliant in the sense that all essential information is always in your field of vision. I like the panoramic view: yes parking sensors are good, but I find the pano view helps when reversing into a space in a car park. When parallel parking, you can also see how far you are from the kerb
  8. I have been using Lexus Hedge End/Southampton for the past 4 years and would not go anywhere else. ALL staff are polite without being pushy, all are very responsive to requests, and all know their products well, including the two ladies who man the service desk. I have nothing but praise for the whole team, from top to bottom: it is thanks to them that I remain faithful to the Lexus brand.
  9. Did not anything untoward on the vid either. In fact, the car appeared to be driven smoothly and reasonably. Odd that the car should be kerbed on both sides though. Rather than write the mileage down, I would recommend you take a picture of the dial. You then have a dated and timed photo that you can use as hard evidence rather than a your word vs their word. I always take a pic of the mileage when using valet parking at airports, as I have had problems in the past.
  10. It needs the quad exhausts! but I like it. Muscular but still understated. Love the wheels.
  11. I have to agree: the transformation has not compromised the looks of the car. No word as to whether the car will make production or not. Fingers crossed.
  12. Merry Christmas and best wishes of good health and prosperity for 2017. In other words, stay healthy and win the lottery!
  13. DO you only do short, city trips by any chance?
  14. Air con units are a lot smaller and far more efficient than they used to be. My teenage son has a Peugeot 107 with a one liter, 3 cylinder engine that gives out 70ps and even in such a small car having the aircon has little impact on performance and consumption.
  15. John, I am not sure I understand your point and how keyless is worse that the traditional keys.
  16. Michelin Lattitude Tour HP on mine and very happy. I wonder how they compare with the Cross Climate.
  17. Same here. Saves having to look for the keys which normally stay in my pocket or my laptop bag. My father used to have similar comments about electric windows vs manual ones or satnav vs old fashioned maps.
  18. Have you noticed that the windows are laminated (if you feel the top edge of the glass you will noticed that there are in fact two layers) for better noise insulation, and coated with a water repellent?
  19. Of course you are right with regards to the use of fossil fuels. Plug-ins just shift the problem somewhere else. With regards to range (and range angst!), battery technology keeps improving with longer ranges and shorter charging times, hence my point about the Renault Zoe. There are Tesla charging points at my local Sainsbury (Winchester in Hampshire), and I often see non-UK cars using them. I don't think that driving a plug-in presents insurmountable issues these days, just a bit of planning. As for hydrogen, I don't know enough about it to comment, but it seems that very few manufacturers are promoting it. Could it just be because of a lack of funding from governments who seem more keen to support EVs?
  20. Welcome to the forum. I'll be very blunt: a premium car from a premium brand will - eventually - attract premium bills. Even a car as reliable as the RX is not immune to wear and tear. It is a complex car, and you are talking about a 10 year old car that may or may not have been looked after by multiple owners. You may be lucky and find a gem... yet again... you may buy a dud! I certainly would shy away from anything without a decent service history. You may find that buying from a dealer is the most cost effective option in the long run, but at least you will get a solid warranty for the first year. Checking a few thread will give you some idea of costs to be prepared for: - A mirror replacement can cost as much as £450 from a main dealer - A reconditioned audio unit (they are sealed units and include the 6xCD changer) costs around £1500 to replace Whatever you decide to do, good luck. This is one of the most friendly forums you'll ever come across, with loads of people always willing to give good advice. Just ask.
  21. I think you are right and with more and more EVs coming onto the market, they will become more and more performant. I am certainly considering replacing our second car with something like a Renault Zoe, especially now that the battery range has increased from 90 to 250 miles. I also think that manual gearboxes will gradually disappear and be replaced with auto boxes. I just hope that the industry will be able to recycle all these batteries when they get to their end of life.
  22. You might want to check if your new tyres are unidirectional tyres and if they are, that they have been mounted the right way round. It may be a long shot as road holding would be impacted as well as rolling noise, but since the car is new to you, you may not have noticed a change in behavior. Worth checking.
