  1. You should never leave your car in ACC mode, especially a hybrid. You can always leave it in ready mode and leave the keys in the car with your wife.
  2. I agree, and with BMW, MB and Audi now all offering hybrids and/or full EVs, owners of these brands will be even less likely to move away from them.
  3. I share your frustration. Funny enough I posted a similar thread in the General Discussion area. I am usually all for changes and improvements, but I feel this new website is a step back.
  4. George, out of curiosity, what colour interior did you go for, and are you pleased with the combo with Sonic T?
  5. With reference to the MODE button to mute/unmute: Long press to mute, but short press to unmute. I find that a long press to unmute does unmute... but also switches mode at the same time. Hope that makes sense. In my previous RX400h, the radio volume used to drop for satnav annoucements, but it does not in my current RX450h, so I guess there must be some obscure - bu I am sure sensible :-) - reason why Lexus has decided to do away with this feature. I certainly have not seen anything in the manual that would suggest that this is something that can be switched on/off... although I have had to read in several goes... I kept falling asle..zzzzz...zzz...zz...z..
  6. Mine is the same and there is nothing to worry about. I believe it is to do with the warm air being channeled to the rear passenger vents.I guess you would not notice it in another car, but because the tunnel is "suspended" in the RX450h, it is more obvious. If you feel the underneath of the tunnel, above the hollow at knee level (ahead of storage area between the two seats), you will find it quite warm there.
  7. I knew I had seen this same button in a previous thread, so I did a few searches and finally found the thread in question. Take a look at this: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/92606-mysterious-button-near-gear-shifter/#comment-882632
  8. If you want the rear screens, you will need to find a SE-L model. Otherwise, since you are looking for a 2008-2009 car, I would recommend you look for the "Executive Limited Edition": it will have a badge saying so under the RX400h badge at the back. This was the outgoing limited edition, with all the toys, including the splendid Mark Levinson audio system. However the only extra missing from this model was the rear entertainment system. Having said this, you may want to think carefully about buying a car with a 8/9 year old rear entertainment system. You will need to check that the DVD player is working properly, that the remote control is not missing and also that the headphones are in working order. And clean! It may make more sense to buy some after market players with attachments. The other advantage of separate players is that both your kids would be able to view different DVDs. With the Lexus system they would have to watch the same one.
  9. I need to replace the wiper blades for our RX450h. I normally purchase these from wiperblades.co.uk and have gone for Bosch Aerotwins in the past, but I see that their own product (Wiperblades Aerowiper) seems to be highly rated. The reputation of the Bosch blades is undisputed, but does anyone recommend the Wiperblades Aerowiper over them? (I am more interested in performance than cost) Thank you!
  10. Don't like the white one, sorry... too "boy racer" for me... and too impractical for our roads. I followed a debadged NX this morning, and I liked the uncluttered look. I think I read somewhere that you can remove badges by sliding dental floss behind the badges. Is this the best way? - How do you deal with the residue?
  11. What do you think of the new Lexus used car webpages? I for one hate it! - It used to be so easy to search for particular cars and in particular specific models. Now it is everything but intuitive!
  12. Don't you think that, in this day and age, engine capacity and 0-60 figures are rather outdated benchmarks?
  13. I particularly like the twin exhausts. It is a shame that these are not standard, in particular on the F Sport. The ones on the RC300h look good.
  14. I agree if it is not going to affect your own insurance premium. As with regards to workshops: Lexus may not have its own bodyshops, but it uses Lexus approved bodyshops. This means that the work will be carried out to Lexus' exacting standards, and that if the work has not been carried out to their satisfaction, they will send the car back to the bodyshop before you even get to see it. It also means that, if you are not happy with the work, you will be dealing with your usual dealer who will be far keener to keep you happy than any bodyshop staff will. In my instance (see above), I had to pay for the repair myself as I did not want to go through my insurance. I still went to Lexus, who got a quote from their regular bodyshop. I was not happy with the quote, which I deemed far too expensive (they wanted to replace the bumper) and Lexus obtained a second quote from a different bodyshop that they use for "older" cars and non-insurance jobs. The work was carried out and inspected by Lexus before they handed it back to me. Oh, and I had a brand new NX as a courstesy car for a week while my own car was being repaired.
  15. I think it is common practice: same with our Peugeot. Not sure you can blame it on cost cutting... they are just not needed. In fact, it makes removal and cleaning easier.
  16. Geoff, take a look at this topic: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/109997-insurance-or-not/#comment-974664 You will see that our RX suffered very similar damage recently (except that the culprit did not leave his/her details). The "official" Lexus workshop said that the bumper needed replacing (approx £1000), however my local dealer got the work done by a local indy for £400 + VAT, and this also included repair to the rear bumper.
  17. George... you also miss an important point: there are two versions of the SATNAV to meet different sets of requirements. A lot of people are perfectly happy with the more basic set up and are not interested in paying for a system with extras they are unlikely to use. Same with the CD player... plenty of people still use CDs and it is nice to still have the option to use them. Incidentally, you will find that the German brands also offer different infotainment systems, including some versions labelled "professional" with larger screen and more comprehensive functionality. And they cost a lot more. Sorry to say, your excuses don't stack up... you should have done your homework! On the other hand, I do hope it is still time for you to swap the car for one that better meets your requirements. Good luck and let us know how you get on...
  18. Out of curiosity I have decided to be a good boy - temporarily at least - and to amend my driving style to see if I could achieve better than my regular 28-29 MPG. Over the past two weeks, I have adopted a more relaxed (!) approach to driving, using ECO mode in town or heavy traffic, and NORMAL mode the rest of the time. I have made a conscious effort not to drive over 75MPH on the M-way, and have continued to stick to the speed limit. I have also made an effort not to accelerate sharply and generally be more... fluid... The result has been an average of 32 MPG, meaning a gain of 3-4 MPG. Worth the effort? Not sure...
  19. To my knowledge neither are programmable options. It is the same set up with the pre-facelift (2009-2012) RX450h (not sure about the post 2012 models), although the RX450h has reasonably brigth puddle lights built into the mirrors.
  20. The advanced technology pack has only just become available as a cost option on the F-Sport with the 2017 facelift.
  21. Never really been impressed with the Infinity interior design. Overly fussy, with far too many buttons and the quality is not as convincingly as good as in a Lexus equivalent. Too many crreaks and rattles too. To me they look more like a luxury Hyundai/Kia...
  22. Which highway code says that you cannot use front fogs and dipped beam at the same time!?!? I know that on older cars fog lamps would switch off when switching from dipped to high beam, but it is my understanding that this practice has long been dropped as there is no rationale as to why you should not be able to have fog lights and HIGH beam on concurrently.
  23. Search the forum for "mirror glass" and you will find a number of threads on this topic. Some include instructions on how to best remove the glass, others include links for the sourcing of replacements, etc... Go to the top right of this screen and click into the search field Select "this forum" Type in "mirror glass", or whatever you wish to search for Hit enter or click on the magnifying glass
  24. I think it looks great. I too considered it, as I thought it would look great on a black car, but the cost put me off.
