Various things: - I no longer needed a car the size of the RX, even though the NX may not be that much smaller on paper, there is enough of a difference to make parking and driving along narrow lanes easier. - I love the design of the NX, in and out. Also, while the RX was nicely kitted out, it is a much older design than the NX which now offers phone charging tray, LED lights, DAB, better Bluetooth connectivity, etc. I could have replaced our RX with another 3RX (a 4RX is currently out of my price range), but I wanted a change. - Our RX was getting "old" and tired, with high miles. Cream interior looks lovely, but does not age particularly well, even if looked after. In particular the seat belts which are a pain to clean, and the carpets that have become discoloured in places. - My dealer offered me a fantastic deal on a low mileage car with the exact spec and colour combination I would have picked for a new car, and without any significant increase in our monthly payments. - I fancied a change, but wanted to stay with Lexus. I expect that the car will be cheaper to run, but I also hope that I will not miss the performance of the RX!

After weeks of agonising, and with the (useful) help of contributors to both the RX and NX forums, I am taking the plunge. Goodbye RX! Hello NX! On Saturday morning, our faithful 2009 RX450h SEi will be abandoned at our local dealership with 108,000 miles of trouble free motoring and replaced with a 16-plate NX300h with 15,000 miles on the clock. Our "new" car is a F-Sport, sonic white with dark rose interior, with Premium Nav and panoramic roof. Can't wait.

More IS 300h on the road

I guess that with 0.50% market share over all, we don't have to worry too much about exclusivity being at threat! -
Looks nice. I wonder how close to this drawing the car will actually be.

Maybe the RR's huge tyres and cavernous interior make noise insulation more of a challenge? Interesting also that the GS300h shows as being quieter than the GS450h. I would have expected it to be the other way around. In fact, according to the above table, the GS300h is quieter than all listed models by some margin. Bet you feel rather smug hey, Alan! This is an interesting article that blows away some myths... albeit rather biased towards German cars I feel: Most other "quietness" tests list the LS600h somewhere. https://www.bksv.com/en/about/waves/WavesArticles/2014/in-search-of-the-worlds-quitest-car

2009 RX450h headlights

You might want to ask if the beam can be adjusted up. Since my bulbs were swapped, the beam seems to be higher, therefore with a longer range, while not blinding oncoming traffic. I guess that since 2009/2010 the bulbs are likely to have improved too, providing better performance. -
F Sport Speedo Suspicions

It is the same on my 3RX. Slight pressure on the brake pedal will slow the car down without the lights coming on. In fact, I can keep my foot on the brake pedal to prevent creeping at red lights without blinding the person behind me. Might be better for them, but I wish the light was more sensitive.

@pshawfocus May I ask how much?

I think I read somewhere that the future CT will be based on the Toyota C-HR...

SE-L became Premier with the 2012 Facelift. Wrong and rather pessimistic approach I say. You could still be driving for another 40 years! You sound like my dad who now refuses to read any book longer than 250 pages... in case he does not make it to the end!!!! Go for an RC. When you can no longer get in and out of it, then go for an RX! More seriously, have you considered a NX? - Your budget would buy you a more recent car, with cheaper running costs... Happy New Year!

I have always found it odd that Volvo, and previously SAAB, do/did not make more AWD cars, considering that their prime markets are/were Scandinavia.

For the record I concur with all comments above. The RX is the most reliable car I have ever owned and the service I have received from my dealership is the best I have received from any... to the point that I would not consider moving away from the brand. I cover in excess of 25k miles per year, I have not had any issue with the car, apart from expected wear and tear: it still drives like it did the day I bought it. Note that if you buy a car that is over 5 years old, service pricing will be lower that than of a newer car. This is Lexus' way to ensure that you have your car serviced within the network. Pesonally, I would recommend their service plan, which makes a lot of sense. It is inflation proof, includes a discount (I think mine equated to 15%), and spreads the cost of servicing into fixed monthly payments. (NOTE: if you become Member of the LexusOwnersClub, you will benefit from additional discount(s)). I would also recommend Lexus' extended warranty, which is excellent, although you may need to look into this more closely given your low annual mileage. The RX will definitely fit the bill, but if you generally do not cover more than 4 miles at a time, do not expect fuel economy to better 26/27 MPG, especially in the winter. Can you post the link to the car you are interested in?

2009 RX450h headlights

The issue happened again last Thursday. I saw from the car's reflection in the van that I was following that the bulb went off... although it came back on a while later after a re-fuelling stop. I contacted my dealer to arrange for both HID bubs to be replaced on Saturday morning, ahead of our drive from Winchester to Cheltenham for New Year. In response to @TimS320's above comments, I can confirm that the lights are definitely a lot brighter as well as a lot whiter. (FYI, my car has covered 106k miles and was on its original bulbs). Cost was £156.00 for both bulbs. The dealership did not charge for fitting which took around 30 minutes. -
NX Owners manual

It would seem that the only club members who complain about the NX potential lack of powers are members who have switched from an RX to an NX. Is that correct?

De-icer spray... yes or no?

The simplest solutions obviously remain often the best! -
If they do not have ML, they are not Premier.

De-icer spray... yes or no?

Thanks to all who have responded. It looks like no one is fundamentally against using a spray, which is good. Some you have mentioned that it causes their windscreen to mist up inside. Mine does too, but I have to admit I had never thought of a correlation with using a de-icing spray. Our car with the auxiliary heater was a SEAT Alhambra. SEAT being part of the VW group, I suspect it would have been the same heater Rich1068 is referring to. I loved it. It alarmed the neighbours to start with: one of them came knocking on the door worried that our car was about to take off! :-) Did not know about the block heater slot in Toyotas and I wonder whether these exist in Lexus also. Might be worth investigating. -
Anyone who drives an RX or similar size car will know that de-icing the windscreen can be a real pain, simply because it is difficult to reach the top and centre of the screen. I recently bought a scraper with a long handle... which broke very quickly, so I reverted to using de-icing spray. Are there any cons in using the spray? - how do you all get your windscreen free of ice in the morning? (Years ago, I used to have a car with a programmable auxiliary heater. The car would be defrosted and warm by the time I got behind the wheel. It's a shame that this feature is not more common, even as an option)

Fitting lower red reflectors with LED's?
