I agree... I have used the Lexus satnavs in the 400h, 450h and now the nx300h and they have always taken me to my destinations (in the UK, but also in various countries across the Europe) without fuss or problem. They work well as a basic satnav... once you have got used to the menu layout and options. However, I also agree that if you are looking for additional features, current and accurate POIs etc., they are not as good as a TomTom or a Garmin.

Thumbs up for the Cross Climates from me too. Transformed my NX for the better.

Have you checked the Road Preferences settings? - Maybe something in there needs to be enabled?

@Andy BIf the 2018 model is the facelifted one, I think it is worth having as it includes extras that did not come with the previous model: apart from the new lights (front and back), I believe it also adds the enhanced safety system (lane trace assist, adaptive cruise control, and road sign assist). Also, the newer car will have the wider and improved satnav screen. It is likely that the 2017 car you are considering has the standard satnav, as opposed to the premium version. The standard satnav uses a rotary dial, the latter a trackpad and has more options. Another point to consider is that Lexus is testing Android Auto and Apple Car play, and rumour has it that this upgrade may be retrofitted. I would speculate that if a retrofit is indeed on the car, it is more likely to be compatible with the latest version of the infotainment system that with the previous one.... but this is all speculation on my part. The SatNav in both models offers traffic alerts and camera alerts. Both work reasonably well, but not as well as Google Maps. With regards to servicing costs, these are all on the Lexus website.

For a balanced view, my current NX (F-Sport) is the first car I have owned in which I have not experienced any back pain (I used to get pain the coccyx area with both our previous RX400h and RX450h after a couple of hours, which I don't get with the NX). My advice is that, should you go for an NX, you pick one that has adjustable lumbar support.

@Cabcurtains If considering the extended warranty (I would given the miles you will be covering) it might also be worth talking to your friendly dealer about a service plan. This will spread the cost of servicing over interest-free monthly payments that will be inflation-proof and include a discount (I think it works out 10% - 15% cheaper).

They must apply the same rules to the garages that come with new houses!

You should have the same tyres on all 4 wheels on an AWD vehicle.

I have always gone for Lexus' service plans. There's a discount built in, they are inflation proof and allow the spread the cost of services in monthly payments. I believe they make a lot of sense if you want your car serviced within the network. They are also transferable from one vehicle to another if you buy another Lexus... although I do not believe they are transferable from one owner to another if you sell your car (I may be wrong on that one).

Lexus GB have been working on adding this to the current model ranges however at this time we don't currently have an exact date as to when this will be applied but it is a matter of importance high on Lexus's agenda going forward. Once a date of availability has been confirmed we will of course provide information to our customers advising on when both operating systems will be implemented and also if this will be available as a retroactive update to current vehicles as again we haven't got any dates from Lexus Japan. I apologise that I cannot confirm an exact date in this email but I would suggest keeping an eye on both the Lexus website and official blog and also maintaining contact with your Lexus Centre.

The way it should work is that as soon as your put the car into P (not D, as per your post), the parking brake should activate (you can hear it doing so) and the parking light should display on the dash. When you switch the car on, the parking light should show on the dash because the parking brake is on, and go off when the parking brake deactivates as you switch to either D or R. The alternative is to have the parking brake in manual mode (in which case the green AUTO LED is switched off). In all cases, the red LED is only switched on when the parking brake is applied. Now... your post confuses me: This would suggest that the parking brake was in manual mode, and that you never (unknowingly maybe) applied it. The car would have been immobilised by the P position, but without the parking brake being applied. HOWEVER... ... this contradicts my theory and would suggest that the parking brake was in AUTO mode (assuming you mean P and not D) and was being applied as you switched off. 😶

@Barry14UK I am not criticising your approach: it certainly works and it fits your requirements. Plenty of other members have elected to use a Faraday pouch / box. I personally prefer to deactivate the key every night, which only requires a couple of presses on the key fob. As per Herbie's comments, I don't bother when I am out and about as I think that the risk is minimal. What really prompted my comment is the fact that you paid nearly £40 for your box when there are plenty of perfectly adequate alternatives available for a fraction of the price (often packs of 2 for less than £10). Look here. Pouches also fit better in pockets. Incidentally, I assume that you deactivate or protect your spare key also? 😉

Looks good. I can never make my mind up as to whether these wheels look great and enhance the car's looks (they certainly are easy to clean!) or whether they look like clip-on wheel covers. (No offense meant!)

As an alternative to using a Faraday pouch/box? Yes I am. It's less faffing about, I would argue quicker, and it does not cost anything. It even increases the longevity of the battery. I do it every night. I have not the need to deac the key during the day. Sent from my LG-H930 using Tapatalk

Some months ago, France lowered the national speed limit on A and B roads from 90kph to 80kph. Predictably, the move has proved very unpopular. To the point that the Government has now (as of last week) agreed that, while the 80kph speed limit will remain the default, departmental authorities (equivalent to county councils in the UK) will be allowed to increase (or indeed decrease!) the speed limit where they see fit, using appropriate signage. National speed limits on the motorways and in urban areas remain unchanged.

You could have just deactivated the key every night. For free.
