2006 GS450H Rear Caliper Replacement
ZXSpectrum replied to ZXSpectrum's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Just a little update.. On the drive into work today i took it easy and was using the transmission along with light braking and it did not come up with the error. I am assuming that not enough force was applied to the rear brakes not causing the calliper/pad to stick and not popping up with the error. I have just found these in stock but i have not heard of them before, has anyone used them? The price seems along the lines of the Rockauto ones without the hassle of overseas shipping and import duty etc. Brake Caliper ELSTOCK 87-1613 Rear Axle Right, behind the axle — Buy now! (autodoc.co.uk) Brake Caliper ELSTOCK 86-1613 Rear Axle Left, behind the axle — Buy now! (autodoc.co.uk) It also looks as if they have the same Budweg calipers for a few pounds more so i will probably go with them. 2006 GS450H Rear Caliper Replacement
ZXSpectrum replied to ZXSpectrum's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Thanks for your input Colin. Unfortunately i am unable to give it a go myself as my drive is sloped and i need to use the car (however poorly) to get to work, which is only 6 miles from my house. I have just borrowed an older laptop so i can install Windows 7 32Bit to get the Techstream software and the cable firmware to work. I will be sorting this tomorrow and doing a full diagnostic at the weekend. I can pull the battery for a couple of minutes and the car drives fine for a short while. Once i apply the brakes for a little while, when i pull off i can feel like something is stuck at the rear of the car for a short while then the error comes on. I am hoping that because the callipers are seized and the pad gets stuck and it causes an ABS error. I guess once i have done a more in depth diagnostic it will tell me more. I have owned the car for 9 years now and although i have had a check engine light on for a few years that appears to be related to the timing chain but the car has still ran and driven fine and has not cost me anything other than servicing with a local garage, tyres and more recently an exhaust repair. I do intend to get the timing replaced some time i just have not had the ability due to no one in the local area (I have just found out about Lex-Tech in Sheffield) and financial constraints due to work. I still love the car and it has treated me well, still in great condition on both the exterior and interior and stands me at nothing, I don't mind putting a little bit of cash in it to it to get me back up and running for a little while until i can get the cash together to get the timing chain sorted or get a newer model. Thanks for your help 🙂 -

Thanks Steve, Which one of those would you recommend? Edit: From Rockauto. I unfortunately do not have the facility to take them off and get them refurbished. I was thinking these: OWER STOP L3313 OE Stock Replacement; Reman Info Rear Left £36.11 £17.06 £53.17 Add to Cart POWER STOP L3312 OE Stock Replacement; Reman Info Rear Right £36.11 £17.06 £53.17 Add to Cart Although they dont say they come with the bracket it looks like they do if the pic is accurate. -
Can anyone point me in the direction on a non oem part for these? Looks like both calipers on the rear are seized, one a lot more than the other and it has caused damage and corrosion to the disk. So i have ordered some new disks and pads but i am struggling a little with replacement calipers. Eurocarparts seem to have padgid ones for £181 including £48 surcharge. Is this about what i am looking at? Thanks in advanced for your help 🙂

Well it looks like my suspicions are about right.. I will post in the Brakes section to keep it a little tidy.

Hi All, Does anyone have a recommendation on some spark plugs for my GS450H? I believe they should be platinum or iridium but i am struggling to find the correct ones or a suitable alternative. I did do a search but couldnt find specific info. Apologies if i have missed it. Thanks 🙂

Yet another update.. I drove it home last night with the error still flashing away and hybrid system not working. Pulled off the battery terminal for a couple of mins and started up all ok without the error. Drove it round the block and it was fine. Woke up this morning, still no errors but while driving to the garage i was stuck behind a bus waiting to go round it. When i pulled away i felt a bit of resistance from the rear of the car and the error message popped back up. I am getting an oil change and the mechanic is going to check all the ABS sensors and connectors along with all the disks and pads (Pretty sure i am due them). Could this be the result of a sticking/seized rear caliper throwing up issues with the ABS? i have to grab a laptop i can run Windows 7 32Bit from a friend so i can run techstream so might be a couple of days before i can get that sorted.
-
Well another update.. I have sorted the window issues. I had accidently pressed the window lock button so the other windows wouldnt work on their own switches. I sorted them now and they work. But after nipping to sainsburys i went over one of their rubber speed bump things and went back to the Check Hybrid System, Check VSC, Check ECS. I am hoping its just bad connection to one of the ABS sensors and have it booked in for Oil and Filter at my local garage tomorrow so will get him to check all the connectors and clean them up. If that doesnt sort the issue then i will get the diagnostic software installed on my laptop and see if that gives me a better idea of what the issue could be.
-
Well cleaned up all the terminals and ensured they were tight. Even cleaned off the metal where the earth strap fixed to ensure its getting a good ground and still the same.. Couldnt find the fuse that is related to the power windows in the fuse box so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Guess its searching time.
-
Unfortunately they dont seem to be working on their own switches or from the driver switch panel. I am going to double check the battery terminals and ground point at lunch just to rule that out. Is it possible that in fitting the new battery i have blown a fuse? Is the drivers window on a separate fuse to the other 3? I did also notice while removing the battery there are 3 fuses on a cable that clips to the battery hold down. Are they related? I was going to check those just in case i had dislodged them when removing the battery.
-
Oh yeah deffo.. I will look at grabbing a new one that is IOS compatible when i get chance and i also like that i can have another live readout of information and simple diagnostics. All seems to be working now and no Check Hybrid System and Hybrid seems to be kicking in all ok now. One Odd thing i did notice on the way home is that all but the driver power window has now stopped working. It was working fine before i changed the battery, could i have blown a fuse while changing the battery or is it more than likely that i have not tightened the battery lugs enough?
-
I do have one but unfortunately i cant use it.. I used to have a Pixel 2 and it worked fine with Torque but it wont work with iphone. I now have my mini-vci cable and need to get the software setup. IIRC the OBD2 reader will just poll the information from the ECU but the Mini-VCI setup with the laptop and software can poll all of the diagnostic modules and give a more in-depth insight into the issue.

Hi All, I am not sure if this is ok to be here or needs to be in Engine and Transmission so Mods please feel free to move. So this weekend i nipped across town and on the way back i nipped to maccys and while in the drive through it popped up Check Hybrid System, Check VSC and Check ECS. It was raining hard and i made it back home although it was a bit sluggish (Obviously Hybrid System not running, ABS and TC not working) I have just had my second jab and was feeling crappy yesterday so didnt have chance to look at it. Got back in the car this morning and it was still showing the error. I drove to work (Across town in traffic so nothing over 45mph) turned the car off and back on a couple of times and the Check VCS and Check ECS went away but it was still showing Check Hybrid System. So i nipped out in my break and took off the cover in the boot to the battery and the Negative terminal was really badly corroded. So i am going to replace that and see if it helps/sorts it. I have done a bit of a search and can find a replacement original but they are £229! Can i replace it with a standard battery same size/power/terminal config? As i understand it, it will remove the temp sensor on the battery but would this cause an issue with the ECU/Fault Modules? Does anyone have a recommendation on a brand/model battery to replace it with? I have also ordered a Mini-VCI cable and software to do some further diagnostics (Also wanted one to further my P0017 error i still have but not sorted). As always any help would be appreciated. EDIT: I have just found this listed showing it works for the 2006 GS450h is there any issues getting one of these and fitting? HEAVY DUTY BOSCH CAR BATTERY FOR LEXUS S4026 | eBay

Thanks Lee, I will drop that guy a message and ask if its in good condition. I am just a little concerned that if its from a high mileage car the Cats wont be in as good condition as my 70K car but i guess i would have some spares to cut and weld in if i need them. Hummmm.... I have actually seen a couple of sellers with what looks like stainless complete sections for around the £270 mark but i am assuming they are just fake resonators that look like CATS.. LOL i have just done an ebay search and one of the first ones that comes up is Tony Banks in leeds.. If you dont mind me asking how much was your mid section?

2006 GS300 Rear Shock Absorbers on 2006 GS-450H?
ZXSpectrum replied to ZXSpectrum's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Oooh, thats not something i have thought about.. I believe they would fit directly to the OEM mounting points as it looks like its a complete replacement for the Shock/Spring/Top mounts. I am sure the Sami could answer that as he has them on his car and could inform us on how they are for road noise compared to the stock ones. Thanks Simon, I believe there is a branch of ETS in Derby that can custom bend and make sections of exhaust if the guy that is looking at it for me thinks its too big of a job for him. -
I noticed a short while ago that my car sounded a bit crappy when the engine was on so i popped into a local tyres and exhaust place and they put it up on a ramp and it appears as if its blowing on both sides just after the EGT sensors in the exhausts(See Pic) I am wondering if the clamps for the heat shield have caused it to rust through as it seems strange for both sides to be the same. Has anyone had similar? Has anyone had the pipes after the EGT sensors replaced with either custom bent pipework or an entire replacement section? As it has the CATS built in it costs a fortune to replace the entire section (About £2K) but i am hoping i can get it patched up or cut the pipes at the CAT and get them replaced to the EGT. Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

2006 GS300 Rear Shock Absorbers on 2006 GS-450H?
ZXSpectrum replied to ZXSpectrum's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Mine has only got 70K and only really do short journeys so its a pretty big chunk hence why i am considering a pair or new rears at about £500 plus fitting vs a complete set of coilovers at a fair bit more (About £800 Plus fitting which should be a about the same price as just the rears as they dont have to remove the springs etc) but is the entire shocks/springs/top mounts on the car. While i appreciate that it will remove the active dampening it allows me to lower the car if i decide to change the wheels and i would also think the new technology of the BC coilovers would be as good if not a fair bit better than Lexus 14 Year old technology. On top of that, as Sami has shown, the active dampening doesn't seem to do a great deal. I am currently in the process of saving for a full set of BC. But now my exhaust has started blowing so time to fix that first.. Groan! -

2006 GS300 Rear Shock Absorbers on 2006 GS-450H?
ZXSpectrum replied to ZXSpectrum's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Thanks Farqui, I used to know Phil Morrison from Driftworks back in the day when I had my S13 when he was just starting out on the scene. Top lad and has grown a good business out of it. Sami, Weird, I found those stock spring rates from several sources. Doesn't matter really if the ones you bought were 10/8 and you are happy with them. I think I will save a bit more cash and get them. Were they a straight swap out for the stock setup or was there anything particular to look out for? Obviously I will try and get them set to the same ride height as I currently have so I shouldn't really need an alignment but if I went a bit lower I would get that sorted. -

It looks as if the standard BC Racing Coilovers are 10/8 Hope you don't mind me asking Sami, how much were the BC Racing Coilovers? Ones I have seen are about £900 -

Hi Sami, Thanks for the reply. With the setup you have, how do you find the ride in comparison to stock? What did you do with the actuators? Did you get any codes?
