  1. Give these guys a ring, I bought a door off them yesterday and they had quite a few LS parts hanging around, alternatively that ask mikeyv on here as he has just bought a set of wheels off them and may now have a spare. Good luck with your hunt. Mike 07584 089 170 Mikey beat me too it. You're spending too much time with VBH
  2. Ebay, both UK and USA are your best bet. Mine were missing their "L"s, but I was lucky enough to get a set of wheels and tyres which included the centres and all their badges intact.
  3. Small world, I have the wheels and passenger door mirror off that car, bought off ebay a couple of months back. The mirror had a hole in the casing, but I just wanted the glass and backing plate, and the wheels had a cracking set of tyres on, and I'll repaint them ready to go on when needed. I negotiated a good price for both (£120 I think it was), and they combined postage too. Anyway, glad you got everything sorted relatively painlessly, I dread to think what the cost of a main dealer insurance repair would have been, probably write off territory.
  4. If that's all that's spoiling the car for you, you could always tell him you'll have it if he finds and fixes the problem. Forgot to mention, my brakes are fine with regard to pedal travel.
  5. I'm not sure how you can judge a program or it's presenters without watching it. I'd guess that a lot watch it despite the presenters, because it's got cars in it, and there are very few car shows on the box these days.
  6. This has been a massive problem for motorhomers, as access is so good on such high vehicles, and some dealers have been targeted too. I seem to recall reading on one motorhoming forum about a pipe cutter tool that is quick and virtually silent, and therefore the pro weapon of choice. I also read about security devices you could fit, but they were nearly as costly as a new cat, and probably wouldn't deter a committed thief.
  7. Personally, I wouldn't want a car of this complexity, with a fairly high value, unless it had a very good warranty. If it goes wrong and needs five grand spending to put right (steering rack apparently costs £5k), then if the car is over £10k in value, you have no choice but to repair really. Down at £1-2k level, we have the option to scrap it without losing megabucks, should a catastrophe occur.
  8. Sorry, but I'd just buy the petrol model - who needs all that aggro, with the added chance of head gasket failure as a bonus. No wonder Lexus dropped the diesel.
  9. Nooooooooo, my taxi days are well behind me, 1980-1990, ten years were as much as I could take. I'm not as brave as you, if I were cabbing now I'd probably be in a five year old Honda or Toyota diesel.
  10. He mentioned the price, but I forgot what he said. Looking on Lexus american site, the 460 is from 72,000 dollars, which at todays rates is £45,569. Lexus UK have it listed from £72,000. They never tire of ripping us off do they? .
  11. I don't know, but if you click on the Opie Oils link above, you can find out on their website.
  12. Good thinking. Years ago a fellow cab driver went through a ford in his Renault 20 diesel, sucked water in to his engine, which was completely wrecked. He talked about claiming on insurance, and we all said "no chance", but he was right, and got a brand new engine fitted. I would have thought your situation was similar, so definitely worth a try.
  13. Could be this one http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=66192&hl=+steering%20+rack#entry715784 That's an awful lot of money for a repair - hope you can sort it for much less.
  14. Opie oils can, follow the link from 2 posts back and check the service pack for your models. LS400 is 6 litres iirc, which is the required amount plus a little extra for topping up, according to them.
  15. Lovely cars, and better than I expected in the snow. In your position, assuming it's snowy when you pick it up, I'd head for an empty car park and have a little play to get the feel of it, before heading home. Good luck with the car, I'm sure you'll love it.
  16. My money is on Swansea being it's new home.
  17. I also use Opie oils, and go for good quality oil in 20L drums, which keeps the price reasonable. Halfords have offers on sometimes for Castrol Edge, not seen it on their mailshot for a while though. I always go for genuine oil filters, often available on ebay for Toyota/Lexus.
  18. Thanks for that. Most helpful. Ditto. Must have another play if the forecasters are right about the weekend, sounds like fun.
  19. I had a little play with that switch - it seemed for the short time I had it on, to dull throttle response - so less likely to swap ends if you're a bit heavy footed maybe?
  20. I took the wife to work at 7 this morning, and as the roads I used were mostly clear, went looking for a bit of snow and ice to try the LS on. I was pleasantly surprised to be honest, nowhere near as bad as my old 3 litre Capri MK1, which remains the worst car in the snow I've ever owned (good fun though, as long as you didn't actually have to be anywhere). Still better off parked up though if possible, even though I'm sure we are all driving gods, it's the other sods you have to worry about, and there are more incompetents about than ever imo.
  21. I think you're right about the lack of rarity. When I was looking for mine, there were a couple of cars about with the handling package. Knowing what I know now, with regards to tyre prices and possibly a harsher ride, I'm glad to have ended up with the standard car. Ive fitted larger wheels with lower profile tyres to a couple of my cars in the past, but with the state of the roads these days, I'm not sure I would again - just too easy to wreck an expensive wheel when these craters have water in them and look like a small puddle.
  22. One piece of advice, haggle before you go. Once you've travelled to get there he'll be less likely to budge on price.
