  1. Just seen your car on ebay, you'll never make it in car sales, far too honest!! Anyway, I see it's already around what the dealer offered, so looking a better option.
  2. If you bought from a dealer, get it straight back to them.
  3. I see your point about resale, though I think any reasonable buyer would accept Toyota as well, particularly when you have no Lexus dealer within your area.
  4. No bidding required Pepe, just one button push and it's bought for under a thousand. You are right, Michael. I've just checked and it's been SOLD! That was quick, bet he's thinking he should have asked for more.

  6. Don't be so cynical Ian :D , you can't keep a good car down. It's back!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-LEXUS-LS400-RED-CREAM-17-ALLOYS-MODIFIED-GREAT-CAR-L-K-99p-start-/181323402295?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a37b78c37
  7. NOT!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-LEXUS-LS400-RED-CREAM-17-ALLOYS-MODIFIED-GREAT-CAR-L-K-99p-start-/181322702119?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160 Here's a taster.
  8. Retuned my freeview today and found a new channel showing old programs. I know there are a fair few "oldies", like myself on here, so might be of interest. Just watched Lone Ranger, made in 1949, and the acting is pretty shocking, especially by the main man, and the poor old indians get a really rough deal. Can't believe that it was one of my favourites as a young kid in the 50s. Now watching Dragnet, and I love it. I recall reading that most cop shows since were based on it, and you can see what they mean. Lucy show, Bonanza and Beverly Hillbillies are other shows due today. I googled bonanza and it seems it's a temporary channel, so enjoy it while you can. Here is the info. Bonanza Bonanza has launched today on Freeview channel 64. The channel will screen vintage US shows including Bonanza, I Love Lucy and Beverly Hillbillies. Everyone who is able to find the new channel on Freeview following a retune will also be able to receive local TV on Freeview channel 8 (26 in Scotland and Wales) when the stations go live during the course of the next few months. This is because Bonanza Bonanza operates on the same frequency and multiplex as the forthcoming local TV services.
  9. Agree with Mike. As an example, Adrian Flux couldn't get anywhere near the lowest premium on my LS, but I have just gone with them, via go compare, for my caravan, where they were half the renewal premium I was quoted by Caravan Guard. There seems no rhyme or reason sometimes, so just shop around till your fingers ache.
  10. Ooops, confession time. I'd have bet my house that what I posted above was right, but I tried it yesterday, and only the nearside dips when the switch is set to O/S. Either mine has stopped working, or my memory is turning to mush, I suspect the latter!! Sorry to add to the confusion.
  11. I enjoyed this, makes a pleasant change from watching the usual pro German, anti Jap stuff. Fair to say, the reviewer is quite taken with the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ_yf38zEhQ
  12. Re dipping mirrors, on my 99 MK IV, if the mirror adjusting button is set to off, ie, in the centre position, neither mirror dips on reversing. If you set the adjustment switch to N/S, the offside mirror dips on reversing, and vice versa. I can't remember if I discovered that by accident, or whether it's in the handbook. Whichever, it's certainly a handy feature.
  13. 4 cyl 2.2 or 3.0L V6 were the UK options IIRC. I had the 2.2 saloon, but always hankered after the estate. Due to scarcity of the estates though, I went to Honda Aerodecks for a while, and, in fairness, they never let me down.
  14. The Japanese made some cracking big estates, including a Lexus in all but name, Toyota Crown estate, trouble is, they kept them to themselves. The Camry estate was a big lump, but pretty rare sight on our roads. Nissan used to do a 280C estate, complete with USA style mock wood body panels, I ran one for a while and loved it, rotted like a pear though I'm afraid. They also did a Skyline based estate, which I've seen on ebay a few times. I'd be in the queue for a LS400 estate too. Unfortunately, the UK isn't keen on large Jap cars, so not worth their trouble importing them I guess. Here's a 2001 Crown
  15. They want that for a scrapper on ebay. Must be worth a go at £1195 classified ad, with best offer option, presumably you'd also chip a bit off the RX as well?
  16. I agree. Michael, I notice you live in Sussex. My indie in Angmering is a wizard with both the spray gun and spanner and knows LS 400s inside and out. I you are interested just let me know. I recommend him very highly. Pepe Thanks Pepe, I'll keep that in mind. I'm actually sharing my time between S.Wales and Eastbourne at the moment, as our buyers are struggling with their sale. Can't wait to be in Sussex full time, where my two vehicles will be off road at night, tucked away in a quiet cul de sac. I'll probably hold off repairing until then, as I'd hate to fix it, then have the same happen again!
  17. I thought that at first but, on reflection, I can't really think of anything that would be interesting. A drag race or timed lap might be interesting but we all know the oldies would be mullered - I had a Mk II Golf Gti and much as I loved it then, it was slower than a Honda Civic diesel I drove a few years ago. So what else would have been better? A blank screen. You're obviously a fan, and you're not alone, but I still think this opening program of the new series was utter garbage, and a lot more people seem to agree than in previous TG threads, on this and other boards. The program is stale and utterly predictable in my opinion. I much preferred the Wilson, Needell period, with Clarkson in a minor role( usually as a passenger of Tiff, with his eyes closed.
  18. Yeah, I imagine getting a wing would be quite easy, but then, as you say, would need paint, which is extra expense and probably not as good a match as one in the correct colour. I might have to go down that route, or as Malc suggests, get a quote for a "smart" repair possibly, but, for the moment, it only affects the look of the car, so can hang on a while in the hope of a suitable wing coming up. In my favour is the fact that it seems to be the most common colour.
  19. Sorry, not sure how I managed to get same pic twice, I blame the pear cider!!
  20. Below is a pic of my drivers side front wing on my 99 LS400. It was done by one of a large gang of yobs who caused havoc on Halloween night. I think a s/h wing of the right colour would be better than trying to fill/spray the existing panel, so if anybody has one, or comes across one on their travels, I'd love to hear about it.
  21. I drove a petrol/lpg L/C as a courtesy car when getting my LS converted, and it did drive almost lexus like on road. You have highlighted my one concern though, too much electrickery and all the crap glued to the latest diesels in the name of greenery. It seems that the suspension can suffer from the same problem that puts me off buying a LS430, and the cooling system likewise, in that coolant can get into the autobox Trouble is, the older models already attract high ved rates, and I'm wary of what future governments might do to save the polar bears. Decisions, decisions.
  22. Gearing + extra fuel for 4X4 maybe? Our taxi firm once had a Cortina 1.3 base model which had a 1.6 engine only transplant, went like stink from a standstill, but was dreadful at cruising speed(too many revs), and shockingly bad on fuel, even by old Fords standards. Needless to say, it wasn't long before it went bang, followed by a one way trip to the scrappers. It was obvious on that car that the engine didn't match the transmission, but maybe with a big lazy V8, it wouldn't be as noticeable, other than through the fuel consumption?
  23. I've had a few glitches on this site, some of which seem browser specific. Try a different browser maybe?
