  1. Simple, make your own mind up based on your personal opinion of your drive. I've owned loads of Japanese cars over the years, most of which have been rubbished by the motoring press, but have suited my needs perfectly. If I'd taken their advice, I'd never have owned anything that wasn't German, and I'd have spent a lot more time fixing them.
  2. OOps, I've just started a new thread on this, now I see this and another thread already running. Here's a link to new thread which has more detail and pics about the accident Edit:- Better still, here's the latest link to the updated article, if admin want to delete my thread to save a bit of clutter, feel free. http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/11600568.Driver_cut_from_car_after_it_crashes_into_three_houses_on_Caerleon_Road/?ref=mr
  3. You're certainly right about it being a recurring question, I remember asking it myself before deciding on my 400. My decision was based on perceived reliability, and not being a huge fan of gadgets "for the sake of it". I'm not convinced that the adjustable suspension is worth the high repair price, nor do I like things like rain sensing wipers or auto lights, just pointless and another thing to go wrong in my book. I've never ridden in the back seat, and don't intend to, so the extra rear gizmos in the 430 hold no appeal. Tough choice though, they are both lovely cars, and even tougher I guess if you like your gadgets. Good luck, whatever you decide.
  4. Although I have a feeling it's just been sold. It's MOTd but no tax. http://sellsgood.co.uk/vehicules/cars/lexus/lexus-is300-1791822 http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lexus-is300-2002/1076263218 No cars have tax any more, after our wonderful HMG messed around with the rules. As I understand it, the new owner must tax it from day one, so the crafty sods get revenue from all the part months, that can't be cashed in when selling, and from the buyer having to buy a complete month even if they only need a couple of days to the end of the month. Wonder how much that adds up to over a year, several million quid I'd guess.
  5. I was looking at one of those in Tesco car park this morning, looked very nice. I'm happy with my lpg'd 400 for now, but I'm thinking hybrid may be the way to go eventually, as I love having luxury and performance mixed with decent economy.
  6. I test my sunroof drains by gently pouring water in to each corner, with the roof open of course, then checking under the car to see it emerge, at the corresponding corner. Obviously, if one or more remains dry, then you know where to look.
  7. I remember that one being on ebay, complete with unwanted gift story, a month or so back.
  8. Much as I'd love that to be true Mike, the credit goes to Mark (Cruisermark), think the confusion arose as I quoted his post, including the three pictures, and commented one line at the end, agreeing with you about the superb finish.
  9. Should be fine, but if you have any concerns, just get the place you buy your new tyres from to inspect it, before putting on the car.
  10. You and me both Jonathan. Welcome to the site Derek, look forward to some pics.
  11. Thanks for that Steve, Plenty of old Jap stuff to see if you follow the links at the top too.
  12. Here you go, down to £88 now apparently. http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/sat-nav/car-sat-nav/tomtom-xl-uk-roi-western-europe-classic-4-3-sat-nav-with-free-lifetime-maps
  13. Cheeky sods, £100 for a five year out of date disc, think I'll stick with my Tom Tom...... same price, but bang up to date for Western Europe with free updates for life. Out of interest Nach, how functional was the nav with the 2007 disc? Having got used to Tom Tom, I couldn't be bothered unless it took post codes. How did you manage free upgrades for life? MIke Came as standard when I bought it a year or so back, and I believe it's still the case on most Tom Tom kit, maybe other brands too for all I know. I get four emails a year prompting me to connect to my pc for the latest maps.
  14. The thing about this car George, was the amount of recent work done on it. I would think you'd be looking at around four thousand pounds plus, to get cambelt kit, starter motor, suspension overhaul, gas conversion, wheel refurb, without all the other service items mentioned. So, if all was as it seemed, a very well sorted car, that shouldn't need anything other than routine maintenance for many years to come.
  15. Thanks Nach. Must admit, I usually know where I'm going these days, so only use sat nav for new journeys or if a diversion is needed. If I was using it day in, day out, I'd probably get fed up of messing round with a stick on job.

  17. Mine is also blue, and it's a little better than black for hiding a bit of muck, but tends to look a bit ordinary unless clean, As ever with dark colours though, a good polish is very rewarding. Shame about being second, but with any luck first in line will be a tyre kicker with shallow pockets. I have noticed the 400 has swapped places with the 430 in terms of numbers for sale, and good ones are definitely getting scarcer.
  18. If it happens again on your drive, turn it off mid smoking session, then whip out your spark plugs to see if any are wet. Might give you a point in the right direction.
