  1. As above, it all depends on your mileage, but as a very rough guide, if you're spending £200 a month on fuel, therefore £2400 a year, then you'll spend about £1200 instead, after conversion to gas. So you'll have covered a £1200 conversion cost, and from then on, you're halving your fuel costs. I say roughly, because that doesn't take in to account the cost of petrol for a couple of miles when starting from cold, or the slightly worse mpg on gas compared to petrol, or servicing costs for the lpg system.
  2. will your bill provider not have the dialled numbers list?...................just a thought Good thinking, I can access my old bills online, so if I knew the date I could certainly find the number.
  3. You're welcome. A lot of us had the same choice to make, and it has to come down to personal choice in the end. I have only driven the 400, but I love mine, and there are plenty who say the same about their 430, so best of luck deciding.
  4. Here you go, and welcome to the forum. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/95155-hello-and-also-unoriginal-ls400-vs-ls430-question-from-a-new-member/
  5. I'm sick to death of seeing cars described as having full service history, when they obviously have missed services. Regarding this car, cheap tyres on a performance car, misdescribed, and a shonky warranty (probably), would see me heading to a main dealer with a nicer car and proper warranty.
  6. http://www.suncoreindustries.com/lexus-ls430-suspension.php http://www.ebay.com/bhp/lexus-ls430-shocks Couple of links to conversion kits for you, and as said above, our American equivalent site is a good place to research. Interesting thread, I doubt I'll ever own a 430, but if I did, I'd be very tempted to convert to sprung suspension.
  7. LS400 has little or no depreciation, set that against your fuel cost and you're laughing all the way to the bank. If you're doing a lot of miles, spend £1200 on a lpg conversion, and you'll be filling up at 50 p per litre, doing the equivalent of 40mpg + on petrol. As daft as it seems, because of the build quality/reliability of these cars, they are ridiculously cheap to run, and a lovely place to be when negotiating our creaking road network.
  8. Just had a look on their website, and it's coming up at £5,750, but clicking for further details brings up an error page for me. It does say 62k miles on the main page though.
  9. You can certainly test that early, though you'll only get 12 months, whereas if you test a month before your current ticket expires, you get 13 months on passing.
  10. I bought mine fitted with budget M+S tyres, as they got past 50% worn, it was very easy to get the back end loose in the wet. It's a different car with it's current Pirellis, much grippier.
  11. Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread Steve, but I'm still looking for a MK IV drivers side front wing in blue, though I'd consider another colour now I think, at the right price. Tow bar would be nice too.
  12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-LEXUS-LS400-MK-IV-AUTO-LPG-98K-FULL-SPEC-17-ALLOYS-S-HIST-/151525709931?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2347a2d86b Searching ebay to find this car was a surprise. They really have dried up haven't they? Only seven for sale, and two of those are silly priced imports at £7.500 and £12.500!! I agree with Bluesmans post, although I would prefer to buy a good car and get the conversion done myself. That might be easier said than done though, with nice ones getting very rare, it seems. Glad it's your decision not mine, good luck.
  13. You should find more 430's for sale than 400's, nearly double the ampont of 430 to 400 are registered, interestingly though, sorn records for the 430 to 400 are 5 times higher for the 400. Are those sorn ones the kind we see in the corners of dealers who can't shift them, i know of 2 dealers local to me who have 400's and to be honest they have seen better days and they not asking much either, may get one for the running gear alone. Some people do buy big luxury cars and not just Lexus and they don't realise the costs of keepning them in good condition when any kind of issue or service comes up, this then lets the car go unloved and slowly starts the road to the scrapper. Another reason for sales could be due to running costs, admittedly fuel is lower at the moment which we all can benefit from, but i'm thinking of parting ship for better economy. I posted this last month on another thread, did you get your figures elsewhere, as we seem to disagree on the numbers registered? "There are still more 400s on the road than 430s, so there must be another reason, no idea what though. How many left website says the following LS400 - 2831 taxed and 674 SORNED, LS430 - 2153 taxed and 84 SORNED, so approximately 50% more 400s."
  14. I'd agree with Geoff, if it weren't for the second part, where the pimple gets flattened. Coupled with the 48h, which suggests letting the repair harden, which in turn suggests polishing rather than washing. My guess would be to use a cutting compound, to blend in the repair.
  15. I'd be wary of leaving a dash cam on show when parked in a public place, even more so if there are conspicuous wires going to the cigar lighter socket.
  16. Nice pic, I love Devon. Weather been great here in Sussex too, Xmas day the seafront was heaving in Eastbourne. Off to Yorkshire for new year though, where the forecast is for snow, might leave my shorts at home....brrrrrrr.

  18. I wasn't specifically talking about your car ambermarine, just low mileage cars in general, many of which are "shopping cars", so will have been switched on and off every couple of miles, as opposed to every hundred miles on a motorway cruiser. They also tend to have more wear on steering, suspension and transmission, than a car that spends most of it's time cruising in a relatively straight line on motorways. Another point that strikes me though, if it's such a serious safety issue, and I'm not disagreeing with you, particularly if the power steering is affected, then why are people risking driving their cars? It's not an expensive fix after all, so why risk it?
  19. To be fair, he's probably only been singled out because he is a regular seller of Lexus LS models, and as such has often been linked to by new members who want advice on one of his cars. You're right though, there are loads like him who make low bids on lots of cars, knowing that some will accept his bid through ignorance, or sometimes because they can't be bothered to go through the normal selling process.
  20. There is a thread on here which lists all his Ebay names, they are in the archives somewhere. Mike. I posted them I think, but all I did was check his ID history on ebay.
  21. One thing that strikes me, low mileage doesn't necessarily mean low use of the ignition switch, in fact, the opposite is more likely if you think about it.
  22. Happy Xmas to you and everybody else too. Now, be honest, doesn't a little bit of you miss that V8 burble? I have the same fault on mine, but because it sounds so nice when you drop it down a couple of gears and boot it, I keep putting it off.
  23. They're looking for six grand though, way too strong for Cat D in my opinion. I see you have an Elgrand Chris, I like the look of them, are they any good?
  24. Did you see that it's Cat D? Needs careful checking, and must be cheap, as resale can be difficult. Funny how every ebay write off had light damage isn't it? If I repaired a lightly damaged car, I'd take pictures galore to prove it, and yet I've never seen anybody else do it....funny that.
