  1. I never managed to get a towbar for my LS, so fitted one to my camper to tow the caravan to Devon. Pretty sure most people thought we were travellers!!
  2. £230 all in seems very good value to me, especially as the years roll on and polishing vehicles gets to feel like very hard work. Looks great by the way, you must be well pleased.
  3. When you think of some of the crackpot schemes, foisted on us in the interests of the environment, how is it acceptable for a major car manufacturer to throw away a perfectly serviceable part, for the sake of a repair costing a few pounds? Mind you, our marvellous rulers decided it was a good idea to pay us to scrap perfectly good cars, and replace them with economical diesels, which are now considered, only a few years later, to be poisoning the planet! Wonder how long before they are bribing us out of our oil burners with another whizz bang scheme.
  4. I presumed that the OP meant filler, as opposed to adapter. I'm sure he did, but to fit under the petrol flap requires a small filler, which then needs the adapter in this country. Aside from the legality issue, some installers on the lpg forum say that with the strain put on the small diameter fittings by some pumps, they are prone to snapping.
  5. When I converted mine a couple of years ago, my insurance charged me extra for the mod. Since then, no problems at all getting competitive quotes.
  6. I must admit, heated seats are something I could live without, particularly if the price to fix is too high for a Lexus parts manager!! Hopefully you'll be lucky, and find a simple electrical fault, and a nice easy fix. As a matter of interest, was the fault declared by the seller on his comprehensive listing?
  7. I've just read an article saying that JC could be re-employed, but with someone else over him, to cut out his troublesome bits, rather than the current bloke, who is a long time buddy and ex public school companion. I hope this won't happen, as I can't stand him or the little one, though I think May would be fine with less juvenile co-presenters. Clarkson can go back to his chat show, which was pretty abysmal, as I recall.
  8. Here you go, link to the thread http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/97542-lexus-ls400-26000-miles/
  9. There's a thread on that car, looked a fantastic example from the pictures and walk round video. Enjoy your new motor, and welcome to the forum.
  10. Well, yes, it's sad in one way, but maybe less so if you're in need of parts to keep your own car out of the crusher.
  11. Thanks Rudy, he has two auctions running, both for 430s, and I was looking at the other one. Here is the revisions list for the car under discussion, not dissimilar to the other one I posted. 12. What was the invite to LOC members please? Incidentally, this is the result of clicking on the revisions link for this auction, can't believe ebay allow him to get away with this practice. 13. Parked at Eastbourne car auctions a couple of weeks back, when I returned I found two new neighbours. Then at Asda today, came back to find my car had met a nice old 'G' reg lady.
  14. My mistake, I read your post as meaning the dealer had been honest on autotrader, but not on their own site. Which brings me to another point. Are traders legally bound to declare cat C, and/or, cat D when advertising? I thought they were obliged to do so, but on googling the subject, found conflicting opinions. Anybody know for sure? Incidentally, any dealer not declaring a recorded car, would be off my shopping list straight away.
  15. I'm not getting old, I AM old, but I was right about mine. Just been out, on a fairly chilly night, and it idled at 1000 rpm exactly.
  16. It's not them being honest though, is it? This is from autotrader, and is quoted below the advert. Insurance categories When a seller advertises a vehicle, we use the details sourced from Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR), operated by Insurance Database Services Ltd, to check whether the vehicle is recorded as having being written off. The write off data is checked at the time of placing the advert. The write off category indicators are provided for your assistance, but the presence or absence of an indicator in an advert, should not be relied upon by you to indicate the status of a vehicle. You are strongly advised to obtain a full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle. Auto Trader Limited, or its data supplier, will not accept liability for any information provided. 17. Not sure mine revs that high, more like 1000rpm I think, but I'll try and remember to check tomorrow morning.
  18. I cover my back seat with plenty of blankets and regularly get two Border Collies one of which is completely blind and profoundly deaf and they love it. Never had a problem. Mike We do the same, but underneath we use a cover that hooks on to the front seat headrests, as well as the rear, so all that lovely cream leather is protected. I love watching Mrs V drive away with our large lab/staffie cross sat in the back, like chauffeur driven royalty, then laying down just before she reaches the first corner.........dogs aren't daft are they.
  19. Just got an ebay mail containing this ebay ad http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-Ls400-Gs300-Is200-Soarer-Breaking-2jz-ge-1uz-fe-Engine-Gearbox-Headlight-/281632440054?ssPageName=ADME:SS:SS:GB:3160 Supposedly breaking a fair few Lexus, and the pic would seem to back their claim. Might be of interest to some.
  20. Yes, I noticed that and googled it. The result on Wiki was a bit vague, but apparently Yamaha were involved with the cylinder head design. I've always loved the large Japanese stuff, and estate cars in general, so combine the two and I'm happy!!
  21. Nice, and there's a link to the estate version that's up for 4.5k opening bid, which is even nicer imo.
  22. I'd have agreed on Quentin Wilson until watching his new Classic car series. He's turned in to some kind of grotesque caricature of himself, with a laboured delivery and constantly squirming round in his chair like he needs a pee. Shame, because I thought Top Gear was at it's best, for me, when Quentin and Clarkson (before he got too big for his boots) were passengers to Tiff Needell and quite obviously scared to death as Tiff thrashed the latest car on test.
  23. Checking his profile, he's not been active on here since mar 31st 2014, so you'll be lucky to get a reply. Could always try a pm, as he might get an email telling him he has a message. Pity, I'd like to have heard about his conversion, assuming he actually went ahead.
  24. While I was visiting in laws in North Yorks, I rang round loads of scrappers in Leeds, Bradford and York areas. To save time, I wasn't specific about model or colour when they answered, just asked if they had a front wing for a Lexus LS 400. All bar one said no straight away, the exception had the wrong side in the wrong colour, with "repairable" damage. Seems they are not exactly in good supply.
